I just moved to the Cocoa Beach/Cape Canaveral area and I wanted to see a rocket launch. The next Shuttle launch isn't for a couple of months yet, but I saw this Atlas V launch on the schedule, so I thought it would be fun to go to the beach to see it. My vantage point was about 15.5 miles to the south of Launch Complex 41. The payload was a new Air Force "spy satellite" and they strapped 3 solid rocket boosters onto the Atlas to lift the heavy package. I hope you enjoy the video as much as I enjoyed watching the launch.
CAPE CANAVERAL -- When vacationers visiting the Central Florida area search out fun, interactive shows to take the kids to the first locations to come to mind are probably Disney World or Universal Studios. Now there is a third option -- Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex (KSCVC). The roving KSC reporter had scheduled a visit to KSCVC to film a segment on the Astronaut Encounter and Shuttle Launch Experience attractions (stay tuned for those segments) -- when it was decided to include a third, awesome segment regarding one of the complex's newest editions -- Star Trek Live. Tied heavily into the recent Star Trek film by Paramount Pictures the Star Trek Live interactive show allows audience members to interact with the characters that are part of the program. Everyone in the audience is a "cadet" during Starfleet Academy's first year. A day that should begin with classes in quantum mechanics and particle physics quickly spirals out of control as a renegade time-traveling Romulan threatens one of mankind's greatest accomplishments with annihilation. However the cadets will not have to face this threat alone. A single temporal agent has been sent back in time to save us. In so doing, along with the cadet's commander's help, he educates guests into very important parts of current space exploration technology and how they relate to the tech of the Star Trek universe. More importantly the show is simply fun. The personalities tap into key archetypes within the Star Trek ...
A white rocket that's as tall as an 18-story building is about to blast off from Cape Canaveral in Florida. And there's a lot riding on it — at least on the Symbolic Ascension of the Reptilian Winged Serpent God known as Draco the Dragon to it's mid-heaven nest. SpaceX hopes to move forward its bid to deliver supplies to the International Space Station to the second test flight of the Dragon capsule next spring, foregoing an extra mission to prove out the cargo ship's rendezvous capabilities. Artist's concept of Dragon approaching the space station. Credit: SpaceX Elon Musk, SpaceX's founder and CEO, told reporters Thursday the schedule change will keep the company on track to carry logistics to the station next year, despite schedule delays on the Dragon spacecraft as crews focus their attention on the first flight of the Falcon 9 rocket this week. SpaceX previously agreed with NASA to fly three demo flights of the Dragon capsule under the Commercial Orbital Transportation Services program. If the test flights go as planned, the company would now only launch two shakedown missions before starting a dozen operational sorties to deliver equipment to the space station. "We're advancing the objectives of what's called the COTS 2 flight to enable COTS 2 to go all the way to the space station," Musk said. "We don't yet have final approval from NASA on that. We've discussed it with them at length. We're designing the COTS 2 flight to be capable of that, and we are optimistic ...

Launch countdown operations are on schedule with no issues to report, according to officials at NASA's Kennedy Space Center in Florida during the STS-129 prelaunch briefing. With the unfortunate scrub of the Atlas rocket from Cape Canaveral Air Force Station today, space shuttle Atlantis is cleared for launch at 2:28 pm EST Monday.
Space Exploration Technologies or 'SpaceX' has already flown their single engine rocket, the Falcon 1, successfully twice. Now it's time to move on to bigger and badder things: the rocket with 8 additional Merlin engines and aptly named Falcon 9. One of the biggest changes between the Falcon 1 and Falcon 9, besides the engines, is the use of Florida's Cape Canaveral as a launching location.

Hi, I'm Kristin Volk with a UPI Headline Update on this Thursday, the 7 day of February 2008. Senate Republicans have blocked an economic stimulus plan backed by Democrats. The plan was offered as an alternative to the bill backed by President Bush that overwhelmingly passed in the House last week. The Democrats' package was costlier than the House-passed measure. It extended cash rebates to retirees and disabled veterans and stretched out unemployment benefits. It's not clear what the ...
