Lee Bass, MD, explains capsule endoscopy, a technology that uses a tiny wireless camera to take pictures of the digestive tract. The camera is the size of a large capsule and can either be swallowed or endoscopically placed inside the patient. This technique is very valuable in examining the small intestine, an area that is not easily accessed by current endoscopes.

My continued struggle with my health (If you haven't watched my first video you should check it out!). We were hoping that the capsule endoscopy would prove the Crohn's but according to that GI doc it didn't. I'm going back to my first GI doc I saw last Deccember and during my first 2 hospital stays. We think it was just the Inderal causing me to pass out. My electrolytes and blood sugar were normal and the EKG showed no obvious heart problems. Since being off of it my heartrate has increased and my blood pressure did a little too. I haven't passed out again but still keep getting the sparkly black spells. Capsula endoscopică (wireless capsule endoscopy - WCE) este o unealtă de diagnostic pentru evaluarea bolnavilor cu boli ale intestinului subţire şi în diagnosticul hemoragiilor gastrointestinale obscure. Capsula endoscopică este superioară altor metode endoscopice ca enteroscopia, tomografia computerizată sau rezonanţa magnetică enteroclysis. Intestinul subţire a fost mulţi ani considerat un organ neexplorabil, fiind dificil de evaluat în întregime prin astfel de tehnici endoscopice tradiţionale.Un numar mare de bolnavi cu boala Crohn a intestinului subţire sunt diagnosticaţi cu ajutorul capsulei endoscopice. TITLE: Laparoscopic Subtotal Colectomy for Multiple Colon Polyposes Introduction: Laparoscopic subtotal colectomy is probably one of the most difficult and complex procedures in laparoscopic colorectal surgery. The potential benefit of minimally invasive surgery, such as improved cosmesis, reduced postoperative pain, shorter length of hospitalization, and faster return to normal activity, could be overcome by higher complication rates and longer lengths of surgery. Methods: We report the case of a 55-year-old man who underwent laparoscopic subtotal colectomy for multiple colon polyposes. A preoperative colonoscopy highlights the presence of multiple colon polyps, with evidence of moderate to severe dysplasia. Results: The most difficult and also time-consuming part of the procedure is the mobilization of the transverse colon and division of the middle colic vessels. Each branch is treated with care, and proximal control of vessels is maintained at all times. Because this area may be difficult to expose, a fundamental understanding of the vessels encountered here is extremely important. The vascular pedicle should be confirmed before division as the superior mesenteric artery and vein lie deep to the dissection line and the pancreas is fully exposed as dissection progresses. Conclusions: The laparoscopic approach to subtotal colectomy is especially attractive as there are a variety of benign indications for this procedure and a previously necessary long midline incision ...

A 32 year male presented to our clinic with chronic iron deficiency anemia. Fecal occult blood was positive. Upper GI endoscopy and colonoscopy were normal. Capsule endoscopy revealed multiple jejunal and ileal ulcers with multiple sites of bleeding.
