Carly Pope (born August 28, 1980) is a Canadian actress.
Pope was born and raised in Vancouver, British Columbia, the middle of three children (her brother, Kris, is also an actor). Her father is of English and Yugoslavian descent and her mother is of Italian descent. Pope's passion for acting began during her high school years in Vancouver where she appeared in stage classics such as The Odd Couple, playing Mickey, and A Midsummer Night's Dream, playing Titania.
Pope already had a number of film and television roles to her credit (Disturbing Behavior, Nightman) when she burst onto the American scene playing the pivotal character Samantha on the WB's high-school drama Popular. Since then she has portrayed a heroin addict in Trapped in a Purple Haze, played opposite Leelee Sobieski in The Glass House, appeared in Jeff Probst's Finder's Fee, and in Orange County. Intern Academy is a 2004 Canadian comedy film written and directed by Dave Thomas. It has several alternative titles including working titles An Intern's Diary, Whitecoats and Interns. In Canada, its English title is Intern Academy its French title is Médecin en herbe. The US DVD title is White Coats.
The story follows a group of interns and nurses working at St. Albert's, the worst teaching hospital in Canada, as they try to deal with work and relationship stress.
Run by administrator Dr. Cyrill Kipp, the hospital only manages to stay open because Kipp sells the hospital's equipment on the black market.
During on-the-job training taught by Dr. Whiteside, interns brave blood, vomit and exploding colostomy bags. The students include the nerdy Mike Bonnert, whose parents are physicians, Mitzi, who works as a stripper to pay her way through school, and the innocent Christine Lee who loses her inhibitions when intoxicated.
