News 13 did this amazing story on Dr. Hugh "Doc" DePaolo. (Following from the Casper Star Tribune) Hugh Daniel DePaolo, MD "Doc" , 61, died Thursday July 29 at Rapid City Regional Hospital. Doc was born and raised in Casper, WY. He attended the University of Notre Dame for college, where he intended to play football, but instead discovered a love of fencing; he graduated as a four year varsity letter winner in the sport. After his time at Notre Dame, he went on to achieve a master's degree from the University of North Dakota and a Medical Degree from the University of Alabama, consecutively. After completing his obstetrics residency at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, TX, he returned to Casper, where he began his incredible career as an OB/GYN: a career that allowed him to deliver thousands of babies and change the lives of thousands of patients. Over the course of his life, Doc participated in countless activities and supported many more: to name a few, he founded a birthing center, started the Casper Fencing Club, started, funded, and participated in the Docs sports teams, and served on numerous boards in the city. More recently, he was on his way to achieving his lifelong goal of becoming board certified, and looking forward to moving to Rapid City with his wife to complete the renovation of their historic home, as well as continuing his work at Native Women's Health Clinic on a part time basis. In his free time, he enjoyed spending time with his family, playing ...
