At first glance this looks like the average professional soccer match. But its the men in jerseys that arent exactly the average athletes. These guys usually practice on a different turf. Theyre priests.
The wall between church and science has long been a point of debate and contention for both sides. But next month both church and science will come together to exchange their views. A five day international conference is set to take place the first week of March, where evolution and creationism will take center stage.
The fate of a comatose woman in Italy is sparking fierce debate between the right-to-life and the right-to-die. Hello, Im Charlotte Bellis, and youre watching Newsy.com. http://www.newsy.com http://www.newsy.com Were following perspectives from the Guardian, the BBC, Reuters, Agence France-Presse, Catholic news agency H20 News, and Indias NDTV. The UKs Independent brings us this photo of Eluana Englaro shes been in a coma since a car accident in 1992. She was 21 at the time. Italy does NOT allow euthanasia but an Italian high court honored the familys request to allow Eluanas clinic to stop force-feeding her and allow her to die naturally. The Guardian brings us the perspective of Englaros father who has fought to remove Eluanas feeding tubes since 1999. He tells the Guardian: "Do you understand that concept of needing to be free? Do you? Because it's what this is all about I know what Eluana would have wanted in this situation because she's already told us." (The Guardian) The BBC brings us the emotional reaction from protestors in Italy: Eluana, wake up, they want to kill you, protestors shouted as Eluana Englaro is driven out to the medical center where doctors were going to disconnect the feeding tubes that keep her alive. (BBC) Reuters gives us an overview of the political implications of the debate. It reports the Vatican is urging Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi to push an emergency law through parliament banning the courts ruling. Thats a move Italian President Giorgio Napolitano calls unconstitutional. Reuters summarizes: The case has split the mainly Catholic country and led to a constitutional crisis between Berlusconi and the head of state. It also sparked a debate about whether, by siding openly with Berlusconi, the Vatican was unduly interfering. (Reuters) Agence France-Presse highlights the pressure the Vatican is putting on Italys government. AFP gives a specific example through Italys Health Minister who is also a devout catholic. [Health Minister Maurizio] Sacconi warned subsidized state hospitals last month of unimaginable consequences if they were to suspend Englaro's nutrition. (AFP) Catholic news agency H20 News brings us the plea of an Italian bishop: I appeal to the conscience of all those who are clear they have a living person before them: Not to hesitate to care for, to defend it. And those who are skeptical-- to have the wisdom to refrain from such an irreparable decision. (H2O) Not all of Italy is in support of the Vaticans stance against euthanasia. Indias NDTV brings us the perspective of an Italian woman whose husband campaigned for his right-to-die: I believe its very materialistic to think that a person is still alive just because theyre digesting, swallowing, or breathing. I think its necessary for the church to look more closely at the philosophical and theological aspects of human life. (NDTV) Doctors estimate Eluana could live without force-feeding for as long as two weeks. What do YOU think? Who has the right to decide? Leave a comment and share your thoughts and be sure to check out our sources. Im Charlotte Bellis, for Newsy.com, where multiple perspectives help provide the real story.

The US actor with Albanian roots, James Belushi, has been decorated in Tirana on November 12 2008 by President Bamir Topi for taking care of his family heritage, the ATA news agency reported. "You are a remarkable case we are proud of you," Topi said after handing the Honour of the Nation medal to Belushi in "gratitude to the man who inherited and preserved in the love for Albania and his Albanian descent." A first-generation Albanian-American, Belushi admitted he was not sure "what I have done to deserve it - except that I have always been proud for who I am and where I come from." Belushi, 54, is best known for comic roles in the cult US TV series 'Saturday Night Live' and has starred in numerous big-hitting films throughout the 1980s and 1990s. Albania awarded the Honour of the Nation medal to people such as Mother Theresa, a Catholic nun of Albanian roots famous for her humanitarian work.
Catholic bishops from the persecution ravaged state of Orissa warned this week that Hindu extremists have a master plan to wipe out Christianity in the remote eastern Indian state. In a letter to the states chief minister, Naveen Patnaik, the Indian bishops conveyed their concerns about the mass exodus of Christians from Kandhamal District and addressed the considerable reduction of refugees in relief camps, according to Catholic News Agency. The bishops denied that the Christian refugees were leaving the camps to safely return to their homes. Most, they reported, are moving to relief camps in other areas such as in Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, Jhanla, Berhampur, or have moved into rented houses, homes of relatives, friends or acquaintances. It is estimated that 10,000 to 15,000 Christians of Kandhamal district are living outside the district, the bishops wrote in the letter to the minister. And while displaced Indian Christians want to return to their villages, they still fear being attacked on their way back or in the village themselves, the bishops added. Another factor hindering the peoples return are reports of forced conversions. The bishops noted that details of forced conversions are taking place where Christians are pressured to choose to accept Hindu Samskaras under oath and under pain of divine punishment. They are also forced to convert to Hinduism or forfeit the harvesting of their field. One man was even denied burial in his village because he was not a Hindu, the letter highlighted. Another issue troubling the bishops is the fact that most of those who brutally attacked the Christians have not been brought to justice. The state government have not arrested or brought the criminals to court, the bishops complained. Also, the government has not fulfilled their promises to allot land and money to the now homeless Christians. Some 50,000 Christians have been displaced during the more than two months-long anti-Christian violence in Orissa. About 30,000 of the people are said to be living in refugee camps where the living condition is poor. Christians and human rights activists in India and abroad have condemned the government for turning a blind eye to the violence that has gone on unabated since August and has even spread to several other Indian states. Indian bishops in the letter contested allegations that the attacks are an ethnic conflict. Hindu Fundamentalist groups have been trying to name the communal violence as an Ethnic Conflict between the Tribals and the Pano Christians. A cursory look at facts reveals that this conflict is a calculated and pre-planned master plan to wipe out Christianity from Kandhamal district, Orissa, in order to realize the hidden agenda of Sangh Parivar of establishing a Hindu Nation, they argued. The bishop did, however, applaud the Orissa governments decision to establish a Fast Track Court at Kandhamal to accelerate the trials of cases involving attacks against Christians.
Michael Savage Show on 11-14-08. Father of USS Cole victim Marc Nieto was banned from visiting his son's grave site at Arlington National Cemetery and all other federal installations because of his "offensive" anti-terrorist decals on his private vehicle. "The banning of these decals is political correctness run amuck in the military", charged Richard Thompson, President and Chief Counsel of the Thomas More Law Center who is representing Jesse Nieto. "Our troops are being killed by Islamic terrorists, 9/11 was caused by Islamic terrorists, these terrorists want to destroy America, the Islamic countries persecute Christians, and now the military is victimizing a father whose son was killed by Islamic terrorists while serving our nation." Continued Thompson, "I suspect the next thing the Marine command will want to do is eliminate the Marines Hymn since the phrase to the shores of Tripoli celebrates the Marine victory over Islamic forces in the Barbary Coast War and the Battle of Derne." A video showing pro-life vs pro-abortion or "pro-choice" aggression. You decide. Gloria.tv has more abortion videos. The following link has 2 videos of Pro-Life protestors quietly praying and being harangued and tormented by thugs who are paid by the abortion clinic. Click the link and scroll down a little. http://www.helpgloria.tv/indexen.php Pro Choice Violence http://www.prochoiceviolence.com/ Video sources for this video are below. Argentina protest by Catholic News Agency http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mp0oMKGFTyk http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2o4fOW-snm4 Planned Parenthood Video by dwaincur http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7TVJrDmhn8g "Aggressive" Christian Anti-Abortion Protesters in Denver by clowdwomandanica http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WN-nHY2kVdY George Soros funds a pro-abortion legal group - Center for Reproductive Rights (CRR) http://www.catholicexchange.com/2008/08/18/113506/ International Pro-Abortion women's groups are involved in this. That's why the chants are the same througout the world. Many of these are subversive in other ways. I have not been able to make the connection to international communist groups but this would not surprise me. George Soros made a fortune in currency trading. What is his motivation for funding these international death cults? Notice how they always attack the Church? Remember to pray for them. Many are just students and may not be capable of understanding this pro-death position yet. They are most capable of change. Their hearts need to be changed. Only Jesus can truly change their hearts. The older people need your prayers even more. They have become set in their ways with age and their hearts are often hardened. Also - Thank you and God bless the Pro-Life demonstrators around the world. The difference in character will matter. Do not give in to the dark side. Pray for all of those on the front lines. The fight in my community was at its height at a time when I was stupid & indifferent and could have cared less. They ran over protesters here with a van and a large truck. They drove into crowds and over their bodies and injured some. Fortunately none of the protesters were killed, that I'm aware of, but it's not for a lack of trying. Violent extremist groups have been denounced by mainstream, especially Catholic, Pro-Life organizations. Pro-Life murder is an oxymoron.

Vatican Says Sex-Change Operations Don't Change One's Gender. Credits at end of the video. The Vatican's doctrinal congregation has sent church leaders a document concluding that "sex-change" procedures do not change a person's gender. If the person was male, he remains male. If she was female, she remains female. The Vatican text defines transsexualism as a psychic disorder of those whose genetic makeup and physical characteristics are unambiguously of one sex, but who feel that they belong to the opposite sex. In some cases, the urge is so strong that the person undergoes a "sex-change" operation to acquire the opposite sex's external sexual organs. The new organs have no reproductive function. The Church maintains that people who have undergone a sex-change operation cannot enter into a valid marriage, either because they would be marrying someone of the same sex in the eyes of the church or because their mental state casts doubt on their ability to make and uphold their marriage vows. They are also not eligible to marry, be ordained to the priesthood or enter religious life. The Vatican has demanded that members of religious orders who change their sex should be expelled, while transsexuals must not enter religious orders in the first place, according to a document published by Catholic news agency Adista. The document, which the Vatican did not want to make public, makes it clear the church has been forced to face head-on the question of transsexuality. The document was signed by Cardinal Eduardo Martinez Somalo, the Vatican's head of religious orders, and urged its recipients not to divulge the contents, owing to "the delicacy and complexity of the situation". The document said any member of a religious order who had a sex change "must be expelled from the religious house for the good of all the souls". It also said priests did not have the right to change baptism registers to take account of a believer's new gender, even if the change was recognised by civil authorities. The document also quotes the Vatican's head of doctrine, Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger, as firmly rejecting the admission of transsexuals into religious orders. "When there is a sensible doubt over the presence of transsexualism due to obvious external attitudes and evidence given by those charged with selecting candidates, the Superior can demand a careful medical and psychological examination," he said. The Vatican recently barred access to the priesthood for homosexuals. The Catholic Church cannot recognize the validity of a sex-change operation, the Vatican has declared. The document also instructs pastors that they should not alter an individual's sacramental record to change the person's gender. The Note from the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith explains that an individual's physical characteristics -- which can be altered surgically -- constitute only a part of his gender identity. While the body can be changed, the sexual identity cannot, the Congregation says. The Vatican document indicates that if a bishop or religious superior learns that an individual has undergone a sex-change operation, "that person cannot validly be admitted into a religious institute or society of consecrated life." The document adds that if a transsexual is now living in a religious order, "he must, for the good of souls, be expelled from the religious house." Keywords: Roman Catholic Church GID.

1235:CYPPRESS:03 [03] Albright - Serb - Cypriot magazine report Nicosia, Apr 17 (CNA) -- A Serbian family living in Vrinjetska Banja village, in Yugoslavia, is reported to have given shelter to US Secretary of State Madeleine Albright, when her family fled Nazi persecution during World War Two. A Cypriot weekly publication "To Periodico" (The Magazine) carried the story yesterday, with phaded black-and-white photos including one of four- year-old Albright embracing Ljutko Popic, who told his story to the magazine. Popic claims he is the boy in the picture, taken in 1939, and the girl is the present US Secretary of State. He said he was Albright's "first love" and wondered why she is now backing NATO bombing in Yugoslavia. The Serb is reported to have said that Albright's Jewish-Czech family took refuge with his family, in their village Vrinjetska Banja, some 80 kilometres out of Kraljevo, to escape the threat of Nazi persecution. His village was bombed on the night the Cypriot journalists stayed there, April 12, and the following day the villagers apparently scrawled a message on an unexploded NATO bomb saying: "Thank you Mrs Albright for the presents you send us in return for our hospitality." According to the report, Popic said he had sent Albright a letter asking her to halt the air strikes, but had received no reply. CNA MA/MK/1999 ENDS, CYPRUS NEWS AGENCY Hellenic Resources Network http://www.hri.org/news/cyprus/cna/1999/99-04-17.cna.html ------------ Marie Jana Korbelová was born in Prague, Czechoslovakia (now the Czech Republic) and raised as a Roman Catholic by her parents, who had converted from Judaism in order to escape persecution. She has a brother, John, who later became an economist. "Madeleine" was the French version of "Madlenka", a nickname given by her grandmother. Albright adopted the new name when she attended a Swiss boarding school. Albright is the daughter of a diplomat—her father, Josef Korbel, served in the Czech diplomatic service. Her brother said, "Madeleine had a special relationship with our father, partly because she followed so closely in his footsteps." Later in life, she joined the Episcopal Church in the USA. From 1936 to 1939 the Korbel Family lived in Belgrade, and in 1939 the Korbel family fled to London. Many of her Jewish relatives in Czechoslovakia were killed in the Holocaust, including three of her grandparents. Source: Wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Madeleine_Albright
