Aren't they funny!? Domestic cats kill hundreds of millions of wild birds every year, in addition to many more hundreds of millions of other species . A single determined and well-practiced cat can murder a thousand birds in a single year, or 10000+ birds over the course of its life span. Much of this is done under the cover of darkness, a favorite time for cats to kill. During nesting season, cats can destroy several nests per night, killing the protective parent and then the young, or simply knocking the nest out of the tree which causes the young to die slowly on the ground or fall prey to a cat later. In the UK alone, around 70 million wild birds, some of them already endangered, are killed annually by domestic cats. While cat owners are fully to blame for this carnage, the vast majority of them either turn a blind eye to this holocaust or pacify themselves with token control gestures, such as a bell around the cats neck, which research shows to be completely ineffective. So why don't cat owners seem to care? Unfortunately, as personality research shows, cat owners are significantly less nurturant than, for example, dog owners. It is possible that many cat owners simply don't feel enough nurturance or empathy in order to protect the wildlife that their cats are destroying. Personality-wise, cat owners, especially male ones, are stronger on "autonomy" which might incline them to give their cats greater autonomy and freedom even though this results in large scale death ...

Demonstration of doing Tellington TTouch using a soft brush on Jerry, a fearful cat at Social Tees Animal Rescue Shelter in NYC (who is sweet once he gets to know you). Sometimes a very soft brush can be very soothing to a fearful cat, and I am using it to do circular TTouches on him (doing a circle and a quarter and a pause at the end), as sometimes another surface can be less threatening than a hand on a very fearful animal. Trends inzwischen eine Bilderbuchkarriere gemacht. Ende der 70´er Jahre entschlossen sich Brian Setzer, damals 19 Jahre, Slim Jim Phantom und Lee , beide 17 Jahre alt, eine Band zu gründen, die ihre eigenen musikalischen Vorlieben verwirklichen sollte. Schmalztolle und Tätowierungen als Äußerlichkeiten, sparsame Gitarre, Standschlagzeug und Stehbass als Instrumentierung waren angesagt. The Stray Cats wollten Rockabilly für die 80´er Jahre spielen und dabei eben keine der vielen Wiederbelebungsbands sein, die sich damit begnügen, Stücke und Heroen einer über 25 Jahre alten Musikrichtung möglichst genau zu kopieren. Vor allem Brian Setzer, Gitarrist, Sänger und Komponist der Band, hatte sehr wohl die musikalischen Entwicklungen der späten 70´er Jahre genau im Kopf. Kurze Songs ohne große solistische Ausflüge, schnelle, auf den Punkt geschriebene Arrangements und Texte, die sich mit dem hier und jetzt beschäftigten, bildeten die Substanz der STRAY CATS. Nun war aber für eine Rockabilly-Band dieser Art selbst im vielfarbigen New York nicht viel zu machen. Die Auftrittmöglichkeiten waren sehr spärlich. Es kam ein nicht ganz ehrlich gemeintes Angebot aus London, das die STRAY CATS mal auf Verdacht hin annahmen. Drei Monate lang lief auch da gar nichts; schließlich aber, von einigen Auftritten in den wichtigen Clubs in London und der Arbeit einer rührigen Publizistin unterstützt, interessierten sich zuerst andere Musiker - wie zB Dave Edmunds - und auch die Musikpresse in ...

Tabbys Place: In April of 1999, my wife and I learned that our beloved cat, Tabby, had untreatable cancer and only months to live. The painful realization of Tabbys impending death gave me pause to think: What was I doing with my life? Was I really making a difference? How could I honor Tabby, who had spent 15 years with us? I resigned from my job and committed myself to creating Tabbys Place: a Cat Sanctuary, in memory of our boy. Four years later, Tabbys Place officially began its mission. The Future Tabbys Place currently consists of one building, designed to accommodate 95 cats. Our long-term vision is to accommodate 400 cats by erecting two additional buildings on our eight acres of property. Tabbys Place is a public charity (501c3 non-profit corporation).
