Chicago Board Of Elections has no followers yet. Be the first one to follow.
Conservative Citizen Journalist and Co-Founder of Patriots Heart Network, Chalice Jackson (AKA Sharon Meroni) has been fighting the Eligibility issue in Illinois politics for about a year now. Chalice has been fighting to get the Illinois Board of Elections to verify the citizenship status of all candidates on her ballot. She has learned that Illinois does not verify the citizenship status of ANY candidate running for office in Illinois. In June 2010 Chalice challenged 32 candidates who had applied for "Ballot Position" on her ballot for the November election. Not unexpectedly, the Illinois Board of Elections voted to deny her right to discern the Constitutional qualifications of the candidates who seek to be on her ballot. The Hearing was held on Friday August 6th, 2010 in a small room at the Illinois Board of Elections, simul-broadcasting in Chicago and Springfield. This is a clip of some of the more important points. The full testimony lasted about 30 minutes. This is the first of a series of videos and audios we will release about the hearing. On Friday, August 13th, Chalice returns to the Circuit Courts seeking Judicial Review of the Election Board's decision. She will seek Judicial Review of the unconstitutional practice of verifying candidates for ballot placement without checking their age and citizenship status. Chalice alleges that her Civil Rights are violated when she is forced to make choices without evidentiary proof that they are in fact eligible. After the ...

October 7, 1960 John F. Kennedy: www.amazon.com Richard Nixon: www.amazon.com In Illinois, Schlesinger and others have pointed out that, even if Nixon carried Illinois, the state alone would not have given him the victory, as Kennedy would still have won 276 electoral votes to Nixon's 246 (with 269 needed to win). More to the point, Illinois was the site of the most extensive challenge process, which fell short despite repeated efforts spearheaded by Cook County state's attorney, Benjamin Adamowski, a Republican, who also lost his re-election bid. Despite demonstrating net errors favoring both Nixon and Adamowski (some precincts—40% in Nixon's case—showed errors favoring them, a factor suggesting error, rather than fraud), the totals found fell short of reversing the results for either candidate. While a Daley-connected circuit judge, Thomas Kluczynski, (who would later be appointed a federal judge by Kennedy, at Daley's recommendation) threw out a federal lawsuit filed to contend the voting totals, the Republican-dominated State Board of Elections unanimously rejected the challenge to the results. Furthermore, there were signs of possible irregularities in downstate areas controlled by Republicans, which Democrats never seriously pressed, since the Republican challenges went nowhere. More than a month after the election, the Republican National Committee abandoned its Illinois voter fraud claims. However, a special prosecutor assigned to the case brought charges against ...
September 26, 1960 John F. Kennedy: www.amazon.com Richard Nixon: www.amazon.com Many Republicans (including Nixon and Eisenhower) believed that Kennedy had benefited from vote fraud, especially in Texas, of which Lyndon Johnson was Senator, and Illinois, home of Mayor Richard Daley's powerful Chicago political machine. These two states are important because if Nixon had carried both, he would have won the election in the electoral college. Republican Senators such as Everett Dirksen and Barry Goldwater also believed that vote fraud played a role in the election, and they believed that Nixon actually won the national popular vote. Republicans tried and failed to overturn the results in both these states at the time—as well as in nine other states. Some journalists also later claimed that mobster Sam Giancana and his Chicago crime syndicate played a role in Kennedy's victory in Illinois. Nixon's campaign staff urged him to pursue recounts and challenge the validity of Kennedy's victory in several states, especially in Illinois, Missouri and New Jersey, where large majorities in Catholic precincts handed Kennedy the election. However, Nixon gave a speech three days after the election stating that he would not contest the election. The Republican National Chairman, Senator Thruston Morton of Kentucky, visited Key Biscayne, Florida, where Nixon had taken his family for a vacation, and pushed for a recount. Morton did challenge the results in 11 states, keeping challenges in ...
The back-room deals -- former President Bill Clinton led the Pennsylvania effort and White House deputy chief of staff Jim Messina worked with former Colorado House Speaker Andrew Romanoff -- called into question Obama's repeated promises to run an open government. Romanoff said in a statement Wednesday night that he was contacted by Messina last fall and told that the White House would support Bennet in the primary. When he said he would seek the nomination anyway, Messina "suggested three positions that might be available to me were I not pursuing the Senate race," Romanoff said. "He added that he could not guarantee my appointment to any of these positions." Romanoff added: "At no time was I promised a job, nor did I request Mr. Messina's assistance in obtaining one." Earlier Wednesday, a White House official insisted nothing inappropriate or illegal took place but didn't provide the details Romanoff offered in his statement and a copy of an e-mail he had received from Messina. "Mr. Romanoff was recommended to the White House from Democrats in Colorado for a position in the administration," White House deputy press secretary Bill Burton said. "There were some initial conversations with him, but no job was ever offered." Yet even the appearance of trading taxpayer-funded jobs to ease an ally's political path left questions for an administration that was the most transparent in history. Messina, a tough-minded veteran of Senate politics and one of the president's best ...

Jerry Butler (born Jerry Butler Jr., December 8, 1939, Sunflower, Mississippi) is an American soul singer and songwriter. He is also noted as being the original lead singer of the R&B vocal group, The Impressions, as well as a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee. Butler is also an American politician. He serves as a Commissioner for Cook County, Illinois, having first been elected in 1985. As a member of this 17-member county board, he chairs the Health and Hospitals Committee, and serves as Vice Chair of the Construction Committee. The mid 1950s had a profound impact on Butler's life. He grew up poor, having lived in Chicago's Cabrini Green housing complex. Music and the church provided solace from a city that was as segregated as those in the Deep South.[citation needed] He performed in a church choir with Curtis Mayfield. As a teenager, Butler sang in a gospel quartet called Northern Jubilee Gospel Singers, along with Mayfield. Mayfield, a guitar player, became the lone instrumentalist for the six-member Roosters group, which later became The Impressions. Inspired by Sam Cooke and the Soul Stirrers, the Five Blind Boys of Mississippi, and the Pilgrim Travelers, getting into the music industry seemed inevitable. Butler's younger brother, Billy Butler, also had a career in the music industry. Butler wrote the song "For Your Precious Love" (which is ranked #327 on the Rolling Stone magazine's list of The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time) and wanted to record a disc. Looking ...
Amy Goodman visits Google's Mountain View office to present her book "Breaking the Sound Barrier". This event took place on April 30, 2010, as part of the Authors@Google series. Amy Goodman breaks through the corporate medias lies, sound-bites, and silence in this wide-ranging new collection of articles. In place of the usual suspects, the experts who, in Goodmans words, know so little about so much, explain the world to us, and get it so wrong," this accessible, lively collection allows the voices the corporate media exclude and ignore to be heard loud and clear. From community organizers in New Orleans, to the courageous American soldiers who've said "No" to Washington's wars, to the victims of torture and police violence, we are given the extraordinary opportunity to hear ordinary people standing up and speaking out. As Willie Nelson says, "There is no one who should be more on the mainstream media, every day reminding us and giving us a glimpse of the power of one." Written with all of the fierce intelligence and passion for truth that millions have come to expect from Amy Goodmans reportage, Breaking the Sound Barrier is, in Arianna Huffington's words, "crusading journalism at its best." and, here's an example: www.youtube.com
Academics, journalists, and comedians explore the ways in which the two presidential candidates have been framed by the media. The panel includes Charlton McIlwain, Assistant Professor of Culture and Communication, NYU; Gloria Feldt, author and political commentator; and Ramin Hedayati, producer at "The Daily Show," MSNBC. The panel is moderated by Courtney E. Martin, columnist for The American Prospect Online. This panel discussion took place in the Forum of the Elizabeth A. Sackler Center for Feminist Art at the Brooklyn Museum on September 28, 2008. Video courtesy of the Elizabeth A. Sackler Foundation.
A panel of media experts, feminists, and pundits will examine what we have learned from the epic political battles of 2007 and 2008. Is the American public really more comfortable with female and minority candidates? How did the last election change the relationship between religion and politics? And what's next? Moderated by award-winning author Courtney E. Martin. This panel discussion took place in the Forum of the Elizabeth A. Sackler Center for Feminist Art at the Brooklyn Museum on February 15, 2009. In our mothers day there were good mothers, neglectful mothers, and occasionally great mothers. Today we have only Bad Mothers. If you work, youre neglectful; if you stay home, youre smothering. If you discipline, youre buying them a spot on the shrinks couch; if you let them run wild, they will be into drugs by seventh grade. If you buy organic, youre spending their college fund; if you dont, youre risking all sorts of allergies and illnesses. Is it any wonder so many women refer to themselves at one time or another as a bad mother? Ayelet Waldman says its time for women to get over it and get on with it, in a book that is sure to spark the same level of controversy as her now legendary Modern Love piece, in which she confessed to loving her husband more than her children. Covering topics as diverse as the hysteria of competitive parenting (Whose toddler can recite the planets in order from the sun?), the relentless pursuits of the Bad Mother police, balancing the work-family dynamic, and the bane of every mothers existence (homework, that is), Bad Mother illuminates the anxieties that riddle motherhood today, while providing women with the encouragement they need to give themselves a break.

In Game Change, John Heilemann and Mark Halperin, two of the country's leading political reporters, use their unrivaled access to pull back the curtain on the Obama, Clinton, McCain, and Palin campaigns... and lay bare the secret history of the 2008 campaign. Heilemann and Halperin take us inside the Obama machine, where staffers referred to the candidate as "Black Jesus." They unearth the quiet conspiracy in the US Senate to prod Obama into the race, driven in part by the fears of senior Democrats that Bill Clinton's personal life might cripple Hillary's presidential prospects. They expose the twisted tale of John Edwards's affair with Rielle Hunter, the truth behind the downfall of Rudy Giuliani, and the doubts of those responsible for vetting Palin about her readiness for the Republican ticket, along with the McCain campaign staff's worries about her fitness for office. And they reveal how, in an emotional late-night phone call, Obama succeeded in wooing Clinton, despite her staunch resistance, to become his secretary of state. Based on hundreds of interviews with the people who lived the story, Game Change is a reportorial tour de force that reads like a fast-paced novel. Character driven and dialogue rich, replete with extravagantly detailed scenes, this is the occasionally shocking, often hilarious, ultimately definitive account of the campaign of a lifetime.
