This week's winter storm could be one for record books Chicago was under a blizzard watch late Sunday as portions of the Midwest and Northeast braced for a major storm system that will bring bitter cold and a "long duration" of snow, according to forecasters. Some of the coldest air of the season will plummet southward and combine with another storm developing over the southern Plains, according to CNN meteorologist Sean Morris. An intense surface low will develop over north Texas and pull abundant warm, moist air from the Gulf of Mexico into the frigid Arctic air diving southward into the Plains. The result: blizzard conditions, heavy snow, ice storms and tornadoes. This storm appears to be another one for the record books. The storm will likely extend from Oklahoma City to Caribou, Maine, by late week, said CNN meteorologist Dave Hennen. The National Weather Service said the "dangerous storm" will begin to affect Missouri and Illinois, which were under storm warnings, as early as Monday. Snowfall, primarily on Tuesday, could be over 12 inches in parts of both states, the agency said. CNN St. Louis affiliate KSDK indicated the storm could be "historic," saying it could rival a 1981 system that left 13.9 inches of snow in St. Louis and some areas with more than 2 feet. Very heavy snow will fall from Oklahoma northeastward through Kansas, Missouri and Illinois. Snow accumulations here will be measured in feet, not in inches. Blizzard or near-blizzard conditions are ...

(CNN) -- Much of the upper Midwest battled blizzard conditions Saturday, with a combination of heavy snow, fierce winds and sub-zero temperatures pummeling the region 10 days before the official start of winter. A blizzard warning, issued by the National Weather Service, stretched from South Dakota to Wisconsin and down to Missouri and Illinois. The storm was expected to dump between 15 and 20 inches of snow in some locales. The storm will likely gain strength during Saturday, before bearing down on the Chicago, Illinois, area, the weather service said. Even before the current storm, Minneapolis and St. Paul, Minnesota, this season have had 16.7 inches of snow as of the first week of December. Some areas to the west and south have had more, including 22.9 inches in Chanhassen, the National Weather Service said. More snow came Saturday, with another 7 to 11 inches forecast through the afternoon. The precipitation should taper off by evening, the weather agency said, with temperatures dropping to 8 degrees below zero. An explosive low pressure is slated to develop over the plains, while heading up towards the arrowhead of Minnesota to meet up with an upper level low in southern Manitoba. While it does this, it will create violent winds all over the Midwest. High Wind Warnings are in effect from the Dakotas clear across to Eastern Ohio. Wind Advisories are in effect from Chicago all the way down to the Louisiana Gulf Coast. Two episodes of strong winds are expected in Michigan: one tomorrow morning, and another on Wednesday midday. In addition, a squall line is expected to move through the Wolverine State, with damaging winds (aided by already strong winds in the atmosphere), heavy rain, and some brief tornadoes. Notice how at the beginning of the local forecast, the Intellistar freezes a couple times. It had aborted while narrating the text based during the 3:28 LF. The song is "Alecia" by Travis Rogers.

Hmm...What should I film for the "Life In A Day" submission ??? The question, kept me awake late until midnight ... The next day morning (July 24, 2010) I got this fantastic idea, "Eureka"; to explore The Baha'i Temple, one of the seven wonders of Illinois, both from the land and water. From the serene, almost deserted beach, due to rain forecast by the weather channels; I slipped my pedal, paddle, sail kayak into the oceanic lake and was soon on my way to exploring this Architectural marvel from the water. The dramatic sky painted a surrealistic mood to everything around and each moment was an unforgettable experience ... something I have never experience before in my life !!!...just beautiful !!!
On June 18th, 2010 a double shot of severe weather affected much of Northern Illinois and Northwest Indiana area producing severe damaging winds. The first storm developed over Eastern Nebraska early in the morning, and worked its way east, entering Illinois by mid afternoon. The second line of thunderstorms developed over western Iowa around this time and strengthened as it made its way towards the Chicago Metro area by late Friday Evening. Meteorological Setup During the morning of June 18th, a frontal boundary had set up across Southern Nebraska and Iowa with 500mb shortwave troughs propagating over a flat ridge. A storm system that dropped considerable precipitation across Northern Illinois and Northwest Indiana the night before as well as moderate southwesterly flow ahead of the system, which pulled up warm, moist air, helped to prime the atmosphere with warm temperatures and high dewpoints that continued to feed and strengthen the system as it headed towards Northeast Illinois and Northwest Indiana. Instability, which is a measure of an air parcels ability to rise and accelerate through the atmosphere creating strong updrafts, was very strong during the day Friday. With temperatures soaring into the upper 80s to lower 90s, and dewpoint values in the 70s, MLCAPE values (a measure of instability) rocketed to around 3000 J/kg by midday. The system evolved into what is known as a Bow Echo (Figure 5) as it headed east. The Bow Echo, aptly named for the shape it takes on ...

Yesterday, the high temp here in Chicago was 65 degrees. Today, the first day of spring, it'll be lucky to crack 35. And it's snowing! It did the same thing the first day of spring two years ago. Never count on spring weather in Chicago. And if you don't like the weather, wait a minute.

Some say there were more than 6500 people there this year. Speakers were: Richard Pearson Valinda Rowe Kyle McCarter David Koehler AJ Wilhelmi Otis McDonald John Bradley Fantastic people, excellent weather, could not have asked for anything more. Please enjoy - hope to see you there in 2011!!
