I am excited about the challenge of running for North Carolina Senate, but am even more excited about the opportunity to serve you in Raleigh in 2011. This area of North Carolina is often overlooked, and it's time an effective leader stands up and fights for rural North Carolina. As political power in North Carolina begins to centralize on our urban centers, it's more important than ever to send someone to Raleigh that's willing to work with anyone from any party to ensure the middle class and the working families of Alleghany, Stokes, Surry and Yadkin counties have jobs and that our children have a quality education. Thank you for your support, Ric Marshall In 1988, after working his way through college, Ric Marshall moved to Surry County to work for a local furniture company. He worked his way up to a management position before joining Southland Transporation in 1994 to help build the brokerage division. Another business venture led him to become co-owner of Foothills Packaging and Distribution. Ric's business success is clear -- he still works for Southland Transportation as VP of sales; he is currently the President of Southland Brokerage; and he is remains the co-owner of Foothills Packaging and Distribution. A member on the Yadkin County Economic Development Board, Ric works with local community leaders to find innovative and effective ways to grow the economy of the Yadkin Valley. A member of the committee organized to bring a prison to Surry County, Ric knows the ...

A gifted young man's call to priesthood is obstructed by mandatory celibacy.
Priests are told they'll be able to be celibate but that's a myth. According to CARA, 50,0000 churches and 100000 missions have no priest. 125000 priests have left, primarily to marry, in the last 50 years. Pope John Paul II said celibacy is not part of the essence of the priesthood. Priests, popes, and bishops married and fathered children for 1200 years after Christ. Celibacy has been linked with prostate cancer, psychological and physical debilitation, clericalism, and the obstruction of the calls of young men to priesthood.

Do affirmations have power? They surely do. No doubt some of you have heard some words such as these such as these that would go on between two people, "Gee whiz, Bill, you look awful today. Really you don't look well at all". The first thing you know Bill won't feel well unless he has a very strong will to offset that suggestion through that affirmation, "you don't look well at all". Because that affirmation will be injected into the subconscious mind, and just as sure as I say the day follows the night that will be given to his waking consciousness and that will be carried to its logical conclusion, which is there's something wrong with him. So that's one thing we must remember that affirmations, even in that form, without any intent, must be avoided. Because they are projected into the subconsciousness and then they're fed out, and unless we are on our guard, the first thing we begin to feel the symptoms of whatever the suggestion is. In this case sickness. So affirmations, even ordinary affirmations, have power. But affirmations joined with the truth to realization have the greatest power. There is a brief meditation, closings prayers and singing of Glory Hallelujah at the end. The recording continues with the organ as people exit the church: "Thou Art My Love" and "Make Me the Sea".

St. Patrick's Church in the West Park neighborhood of Cleveland, Ohio is fighting to stay open. The bishop ordered it to close down May 30 and end its 162 years of service to the neighborhood. (Part 1-Tom Duane)The loss of our hospitals is a serious and critical and sadly with Obama-Care we will only see more closings. This community march that was planned to demand the restoration of comprehensive health services to the lower West Side was executed by all the same Lefty-Union-Progressive-Politicos who made this mess that has been putting hospitals out-of-business. the crowd was predictable up to a point: mad at Bloomberg and mad at the Catholic Church.... but watching them yell-down progressive-workers party friendly State Senator Tom Duane was a sweet reward. After all, the Health Care mess that is called Obama-Care is supported by these people one-and all! But, the nurses were not interested in a politician's platitudes and demanded to know what DUANE was actually going to DO about saving the hospital. Pretty words were just not cutting it. They never did get anything concrete out of him...just pretty mad-as-hell words....and apparently one nurse in red wanted an apology from Duane for turning them (the nurses?)out of a meeting. They didn't get that apology, either....that I saw. So...there was a long street march, street theatre with a coffin and lots and lots of speakers....but, now it's time for Borough President Scott Stringer and State Senator Tom Duane to answer the question: What are you going to DO about saving St. Vincent's....we're still waiting....

Join New York City Council Members Letitia James, Brad Lander, & Stephen Levin along with Community Boards 2, 6, and 8 for a Public Information Meeting on the STREET CLOSINGS at ATLANTIC YARDS When: Wednesday, February 24, 2010 Where: Lafayette Avenue Presbyterian Church, 85 South Oxford Street (at Lafayette) Time: 6:00-8:00 PM
Forest City Ratner executive Jane Marshall says she expects a ruling soon and that the streets would close soon. Council Member Brad Lander asks her to explain more What's reasonable notice for closing, after a vesting order? DOT official Chris Hrones won't specify. Council Member Letitia James suggests two weeks. Street closings meeting, Feb. 24, 2010, Lafayette Avenue Presbyterian Church. Videography by Jonathan Barkey.
Forest City Ratner executive Jane Marshall says the developer intends to ramp up construction of the arena, railyard and (by the end of the year) one tower, perhaps within a day after title is transferred. (That could be slower, however, if streets aren't closed immediately.) And Pacific Street between Carlton and Vanderbilt is needed for construction staging, so it can't stay open. Street closings meeting, Feb. 24, 2010, Lafayette Avenue Presbyterian Church. Videography by Jonathan Barkey.
Forest City Ratner executive Jane Marshall asserts that delays in completing the Carlton Avenue Bridge are tied to the time it takes to complete the railyard. That was not in the environmental review. Street closings meeting, Feb. 24, 2010, Lafayette Avenue Presbyterian Church. Videography by Jonathan Barkey.
Asked what happens to residents if/when the streets are closed, Forest City Ratner executive Jane Marshall says they'll still have access to streets, even if officially closed. Tenants will get relocation assistance and business owners will get compensation decided in court. Forest City, she said, has no role--not quite. Street closings meeting, Feb. 24, 2010, Lafayette Avenue Presbyterian Church. Videography by Jonathan Barkey.
Asked who will own the streets to be closed, Forest City Ratner executive Jane Marshall says they'll be owned by the Empire State Development Corporation and leased to the developer. Unmentioned: the terms. Street closings meeting, Feb. 24, 2010, Lafayette Avenue Presbyterian Church. Videography by Jonathan Barkey.
Forest City Ratner's Jane Marshall gives a non-answer to the question of why VMS (variable message signs) were left on *after* a judge put condemnations on hold. Street closings meeting, Feb. 24, 2010, Lafayette Avenue Presbyterian Church. Videography by Jonathan Barkey.
Forest City Ratner consultant Sam Schwartz answers a question about street safety. FCR executive Jane Marshall answers a question about coordinating with public safety agencies. Street closings meeting, Feb. 24, 2010, Lafayette Avenue Presbyterian Church. Videography by Jonathan Barkey.
There's seeming gridlock on some streets. Would that continue? Forest City Ratner consultant Sam Schwartz says no. Street closings meeting, Feb. 24, 2010, Lafayette Avenue Presbyterian Church. Videography by Jonathan Barkey.
City Council Member Brad Lander explains that the discussion will be limited to street closings and transportation issues, not the larger project, since that was the condition under which Forest City Ratner would attend. Bishop Lennon closes Sacred Heart Hungarian Catholic church in Akron, OH. January 24, 2010. A long-time parishioner confronts the bishop during his sermon.
Since August... 14 churches have closed due to budget problems within the dioceses. Parishioners worry there may be more to come.
It's a new year, but it's the same story for Catholics dealing with a restructuring effort at Springfield area churches. Sunday, five more closed their doors, including St. Mary's of the Assumption in Northamption.
