Contrary to Pope Benedict's assertion that the immorality of modern society is to blame for sexual abuse of children by Catholic priests, the church's own historical documents reveal that sexual abuse has been a problem that the Catholic Church has failed to properly deal with since its earliest days. The Church's first official document referring to the problem of sexual abusing children was in the year 60 AD. All of the documents referred to in this piece are real and have been fact checked. Pope Benedict XVI made no direct mention of the sex abuse scandal engulfing the Roman Catholic Church in his latest public appearance at a special mass in St Peter's Square on Palm Sunday, but he did warn against being intimidated by gossip. As the Church observes Holy Week commemorating the last days in the life of Jesus Christ, it faces a growing crisis over the scandal and questions over Pope Benedict's leadership. VOA's Sonja Pace was at St. Peter's Square in Rome and filed this report.

The growing scandals might also curb the church's enduring role in European politics and public life. "When the Catholic Church comes out against biotechnology there will be Europeans that say, 'Why should we listen to you -- you put up with pedophile priests,'" said Philip Jenkins, a religion professor at Pennsylvania State University.
For Benedict, the sexual abuse revelations in Germany, where lawyers say that more than 300 cases of alleged abuse have emerged -- mostly since January -- are the most ominous. The archdiocese of Munich recently revealed that it had allowed a priest suspected of abuse to continue pastoring there in the early 1980s, when the pope -- then known as Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger -- was archbishop. That priest was later convicted of abuse. The Munich archdiocese's number two official from the time has claimed full responsibility for the episode and no other cases that could implicate the pope have emerged. "If it's one case, it's embarrassing but survivable," says Allen. "If it becomes five or ten, a pattern emerges and it becomes something more serious."
Vatican watchers expect Benedict to step down over the growing crisis, charges of abuse in his native Germany are bringing the scandal closer to this pope than to any of his predecessors. "The scandals threaten his reputation in terms of how he governs the church," says Allen. "But there's also a threat to his personal reputation and moral authority."
Ireland, meanwhile, continues to wrestle with the fallout from years of revelations about abusive priests. It wasn't until this week that Ireland's top Catholic Cardinal acknowledged the church's response to the abuse had been "hopelessly inadequate." A letter from the pope responding to the Irish abuse is expected Saturday.
Pope Benedict XVI said he would soon send a pastoral letter to the Irish church and hoped it would promote "repentance, healing and renewal." Irish government investigations have found more than 15000 alleged victims of sexual abuse in the Catholic Churc
In recent months the Catholic Church has been rocked by scandal. After widespread accusations of child abuse by priests in Ireland, similar claims have begun emerging from other European nations including Austria and the Netherlands. Now criticism in Germany is intensifying especially after the revelations that the current Popes' brother Georg Ratzinger knew about mistreatment of children in his Choir, although he claims no knowledge of sexual abuses.

"We cannot forget the power of Christian conversion—that radical decision to turn away from sin and back to God—which reaches to the depths of a person's soul and can work extraordinary change." -Pope John Paul II

Today 20/08/2009 the Irish authorities published their findings on institutional paedophilia from 1936 to date. It reflects what many of us have known, the whole of the Catholic Church worldwide is exercising a regime of corporal punishment, paedophilia and secrecy. Is the Vatican the left over remains of the Roman empire, the ultimate wolf posing in the ultimate sheep's clothing? Remember, we are in the middle of a credit crisis, the Vatican is a private unregulated bank. Should they be removed from the UN and investigated and audited internationally? If they'll do this to their followers children, what will they not do with their money?

according to: cnn 'site www.cnn.com/2008/CRIME/05/16/minister.sex.sting.ap/index.html?eref=rss_latest A minister from a Dallas-area Baptist megachurch was caught in an Internet sex sting and charged with online solicitation of a minor, police said Friday. Undercover officers posing as a 13-year-old girl communicated with Joe Barron, 52, of Plano for about two weeks. The online conversations were sexual in nature, police said. On May 6, Barron suggested meeting the girl in person. He eventually made the nearly 200-mile drive to Bryan, Texas, on Thursday, when he was arrested. Police said they found a Web-cam and condoms in his car. Barron was released Friday night from the Brazos County Jail on bond. Police were unsure whether he had an attorney. Barron is one of 40 ministers at Prestonwood Baptist Church, one of the largest churches in the country with 26000 members. He ministers to married adults. Mike Buster, executive pastor, said in a statement that the church had no record or knowledge of previous improprieties or saw any inappropriate behavior in the 18 months Barron was on the church staff. Buster said church officials are fully cooperating with police

More than 200 victims will share the amount that slightly tops $50 million. More than 89 lawyers were involved in the case at one time or another. All had high remarks for the judges who worked tirelessly in bringing the case resolution.
