Transcript: LCDR Robert Potter: In this case, the helicopter was diverted shortly after take-off on a separate mission. There was a lady on shore that did see the gentleman in distress. Through the use of our command center and the 911 dispatch team center and her cell phone, we were able to find the man, quickly put a rescue swimmer into the water and return him to shore just 100-yards away where he quickly got medical attention.

Transcript: AST2 Josh Mros: We got a call about a vessel on fire and we were close by, maybe a half-mile away from the boat. We got on scene. I got in the water and saw that one survivor was severely burned from head to toe. So, we put him in the plane and we flew him directly to the hospital right away. I stayed on scene with the other guy who had no injuries at all and a small boat came and picked us up. Then the helo came back and picked myself up.

On August 26th 2009 the public was invited to US Coast Guard Station Barnegat Light to help raise money for the US Coast Guard Auxilary. The public was allowed on the 47 foot Motorlife boat and the 25 foot Response Boat Small. They were also allowed to check out the inside the station and the other RBS (which was on the trailer) and the 23 foot Beach Haven Boat along with the brand new Beach Haven boat.

COAST GUARD WORKING WITH AGENCIES IN TAR CLEAN UP EFFORTS CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas - Coast Guard Marine Safety Detachment Brownsville, along with other state and federal officials, are working today to clean up tar that has washed upon the beaches near South Padre Island, Texas. A watchstander at Coast Guard Sector Corpus Christi received a call at 1:15 pm reporting that balls of tar were washing up on the beach. The affected area is an 8 mile stretch of beach north of the Rio Grande. Every ten yards of beach holds approximately 100 silver dollar sized balls of tar. The Coast Guard and the Texas General Land Office are on scene and have determined that the safest way to remove the tar from the beach is manually with shovels. The recovery is estimated to reach completion by Friday morning. There have been no reports of injury to people or animals.
