Speak out India is a NewsX special show which focuses on the main news event of the day and ask a question related to the news. This year's race to gain admission to Delhi University begins today. The process of joining college can be both overwhelming and quite exciting as well. While in Delhi it was the beginning of the sale of forms, in other states the process began earlier and in Mumbai the sale of forms is already over. 100 percent - this was the cut off mark for a prominent college in New Delhi for a sought after course last year, so at a time when getting about 90 percent and more is common and being turned down even with the best of marks is more than common, what can a student do? So we ask you today- Should admission test be made mandatory for graduation courses? India comments and shares it's view only at this NewsX special show speak out India.
Delhi University offers 54000 seats spread out over 60 colleges in the national capital, but the spectacularly high cut-off rates over the past few years has put a lot of pressure on students. But it's not only Delhi University... the college admissions process kicks off across the entire country today. Mumbai University authorities say there is no dearth of seats in colleges in Mumbai. There are in fact nearly 2.25 lakh seats available in Mumbai University... for just about 2.13 lakh HSC and ISC students...

DUE TO HUGE DEMAND AND CRITICISM, ALL SOURCES WILL BE POSTED AT THE BOTTOM OF THIS DESCRIPTION READ THIS BEFORE MAKING ANY COMMENTS OF CRITICISM: This took over 50 hours to make and is a /school project/ (this is not intended to be propaganda of any sort, and I am happy to be corrected on any points). I am open to any criticism, as I am still in the learning process of making this sort of video and am most definitely not a professional. I have already added annotations correcting some flaws and obscurities that viewers have pointed out to me. Curious what you can "do to help," or what the "alternative" is? Here is my response: Expecting me to suddenly come up with a solution to an issue this vast and ingrained in society is quite a high order. This is the kind of construct that is so established that it would take years to patch up. If I absolutely had to be put on the spot, I would opt for the lessening or even elimination of standardization in college admissions. What you can "do to help" is share this video. The first step in change and reform is an informed public who cares about an issue. Change will not happen without awareness. Hopefully this helps to inform some people. IF YOU'RE NOT FROM THE UNITED STATES, read this to understand: The SAT is a test that almost all college-prone students in the US take. It is based on math, reading, and writing comprehension. However, it is greatly flawed and does not actually gauge a student's intelligence or potential ...

After Arjun Sehgal and several other of his friends successfully pass their school examinations from Pune's St. Conrad Public School, they decide to apply for admission in a number colleges but are turned down due to poor marks. They then decide to approach a rebel professor, Tariq Siddiqui, who runs an unaccredited institute, and agree to get together 100 students to get this college running. After an advertising campaign, more than 100 students approach to be enrolled - but Arjun and his friends are in for nothing but trouble - as Tariq unexpectedly passes away leaving the administration in the hands of an unruly alcoholic male, Devang; and Raghvendra, a Dean from another college, together with the help of the police and educational authorities are determined to ban this college once and for all.
Bollywood star Shah Rukh Khan enthralled the students of Yale University as he came to the Ivy League institution as a Chubb Fellow, one of its top honours. A crowd gathered outside the Shubert Theatre early in the afternoon and as the day went on the line snaked around the corner. Fans travelled from as far as Alabama and California to join with members of the New Haven and Yale community to hear Khan speak to a capacity audience of about 1700. Khan charmed the crowd as he spoke to them about success and failure and how to live life to the fullest. He encouraged young people to find fulfilment in creativity, to learn to laugh at themselves and to never become cynical about their lives. "Failure is a fiendish friend that can lead to success by teaching one to be pragmatic, to work harder, and to be true to oneself," he said, adding that the true strength of one's friendships is tested in the face of strong adversity. Khan emphasised the importance of young people appreciating and cherishing their parents' love. "Whatever you do, whichever mistakes you make, your parents are your best friends," he said. The lecture took a light-hearted turn when Khan danced his signature 'Chammak Challo' moves with Yale student Natalia Khosla. "This is the most fun I have had in months!" Khan said. Harvard, Princeton, and other Ivy League colleges and universities discriminating against Asian students during admissions - so claims one student in a recent Huffington Post article. www.nma.tv Asian-American students applying to elite colleges have a new strategy Don't check Asian. They believe that the college admission process disadvantages Asians overachievers. Some even say colleges set a ceiling on the percentage of Asians in the student population. Is this discrimination? A study on data from 1997 conducted by Princeton sociologist Thomas Espenshade calculates that an Asian student has to score 140 points higher on the SATs in order to have the same chance of admission as a white student. No wonder more and more Asians, especially mixed-raced Asians, are choosing not to identify as Asian on their college applications. But the question remains...why is it still OK to discriminate against Asians in college admissions?

College admissions is the scariest and most mysterious part about high school. Students and parents are stuck guessing what admissions officers are looking for, but often guess wrong. In this documentary, we try to find the secret to college admissions. Silke Sen, the former Associate Director of Admissions at Washington University in St. Louis, reveals her college admissions insight: raychao.tumblr.com -- Our story: We wanted to do something this summer that would help out and give advice to underclassmen and their parents. We feel that the discussion about high school and college has shifted in the wrong direction to focus on test scores, GPA, and second-guessing admission officers. Using interviews with over thirty-five students, parents, and teachers in this documentary, we wanted to prove that getting into college is more than just being the highest number, encourage students to follow their passions, and show that happiness and personal fulfillment lies beyond the name of one's college. We filmed over 35 interviews, accumulating over 12 hours of raw footage. This was filmed with a Canon EOS 5D mark ii, a Sony HDR-HC01, and a FlipCam MinoHD, and edited on Adobe Premiere Pro CS 5.5. Thanks for your support :) About Us: Ray Chao loves to talk, especially in weird accents.
