The Curry College Athletic Department once again partnered with Team IMPACT to inspire another young athlete. Gavin McCarthy, 5, of Walpole was "drafted" by the Curry College men's baseball team on Friday, March 23. McCarthy was diagnosed with neurofibromatosis at the age of 3. An enthusiastic athlete and fan, McCarthy plays baseball, soccer, basketball, and T-ball. Now that he is involved with Team IMPACT, a non-profit devoted to providing support for children affected by life-threatening illnesses through engagement with college sports teams, McCarthy can officially call himself a Curry College Colonel. On a sunny afternoon, Gavin and his family were welcomed by the Curry College Baseball team to the field at the D. Forbes Will Athletic Complex. After meeting the team captains and coach, Gavin was presented with a uniform, baseball mitt and baseball decorated with his new team members' names. As the players finished up training, he practiced his throwing and catching with senior captain David Stevens. Before batting, Gavin joined the whole team for pizza and cake when they all bonded over their mutual love for baseball. Read more at www.curry.edu
