Nietzsche's "Genealogy of Morality" Second Essay - Section 24: "In some other time, in a more powerful era than this mouldy, self-doubting present, he must nonetheless come to us, the redeeming man of great love and contempt, the creative spirit, constantly pushed again and again AWAY from every sideline or from every "beyond"[heaven] by his own driving power, whose isolation is misunderstood by people as if it were a flight FROM reality—whereas it is only his immersion, burial, and absorption INTO reality, so that once he comes out into the light again, he brings home the Redemption of this reality, its redemption from the curse which the previous ideal has laid upon it. This man of the future, who will release us from that earlier ideal just as much as from what had to grow from it, from the great loathing, from the will to nothingness, from Nihilism—that stroke of noon and of the great decision which makes the will free once again, who gives back to the earth its purpose and to the human being his hope, this anti-Christ and anti-nihilist, this conqueror of God and of nothingness—at some point he must come . . But what am I talking about here? Enough, enough! At this stage theres only one thing appropriate for me to do: keep quiet. Otherwise, Ill make the mistake of arrogating to myself something which only someone younger is free to do, someone more of the future, someone more powerful than I am—something which only Zarathustra is free to do, Zarathustra the Godless ...
Dan Gardner talking about his book, "The Science and Politics of Fear". Dan will discuss a new way of thinking about the risks we take and the decisions we make in daily life. Having spoken to psychologists, economists and scientists, he throws light on our paranoia about everything from paedophiles and chemical contamination to suicide bombs and germs, and explains why the most significant threats we face are actually the mundane risks to which we pay little attention. Never has it been truer that you have nothing to fear but fear itself. Dan is a columnist and senior writer for the Ottawa Citizen newspaper, specializing in criminal justice and other investigative issues.
"I have this theory that if one person can go out of their wat to show compassion, then it will start a chain reaction of the same. People will never know how far a little kindness can go." Rachel Joy Scott was only 17 years old when she was shot four times outside of Columbine High School on April 20, 1999. The legacy she left behind lives on through a school program called Rachel's Challenge, based on her an essay and six journals left behind. The idea and documentation for this video essay comes from a Michael Moore documentary entitled: Bowling for Columbine. It is the story of America's most reactionary President - Bill Clinton. It was Bubba who fought hard to crucify the poor with the so called Welfare to Work program. In Moore's documentary we meet a mother who works two jobs for minimum wage, 70 hours a week, and travels in a company bus 1 hour each way. In the end, she rarely sees her child and is evicted because she could not pay her rent. The defense contractor, Lockheed Martin, profits from this modern slavery. Middle class families are also working 3 & 4 jobs with grandparents supporting them. They also rarely see their children. All this in what many think of as a wealthy country. It is slavery pure & simple.

NOTE: The poem in the video is taken from one of her journals. Rachel Joy Scott (August 5, 1981 - April 20, 1999). Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold, after having first shot Rachel in her leg, asked the wounded girl if she still believed in God, she had answered "Yes, you know I do", provoking a second, fatal shot to her head at point-blank range. Ending her life. Rachel left behind six diaries and several essays about her belief in God and how she wanted to change the world through small acts of kindness. Shortly before her death, she wrote an essay for school stating, "I have this theory that if one person can go out of their way to show compassion then it will start a chain reaction of the same." Rachel Joy Scott was posthumously given the 2001 National Kindness Award for Student of the Year by the Acts of Kindness Association. In 2006, the National Education Association (NEA) of New York awarded Darrell Scott and Rachel's Challenge the Friend of Education Award. Please visit: www.racheljoyscott.com www.rachelschallenge.com
phatcityhogs. hyperreality Doc/Essay. Sourced from: Desert of the Real: Jesus, The Matrix, and Hyperreality. Jean Baudrillard's "Procession of Simulacra" (1984). Larry and Andy Wachowskis' The Matrix (1999). Baudrillard compares reality to the map of a great empire's territory. The map of the empire becomes so descriptive that it "ends up exactly covering the territory (but where the decline of the Empire sees this map become frayed and finally ruined" (Baudrillard, 19). The great map, the abstraction, the simulation of the territory, presents the frayed edges as the symbol for the decline of the empire. Compared with the simulation prevalent in the modern world, Baudrillard suggests that the map which was once only a representation of a true substance, has replicated that substance so many times that the simulation has become the substance itself. Today, we cannot use abstraction in the sense that true reality can be separated from a representation of itself. That is to say that you cannot separate the territory from its representation in the map. What then is left for reality and truth? If the simulation, or map, now contains the essence of the territory, than the frayed edges which once symbolized the decline of the empire today represent the outskirts of our current simulation. "It is the real, and not the map, whose vestiges subsist here and there, The desert of the real itself" (Baudrillard, 20). What is meant by this is that real truth and meaning cannot be found ...
