On the 27th of November i set out to Cooke and saw 2 trains in an Hour. The the 4th of December i got my feeling for Cold weather railfanning, it was freezing! I saw trains that night, including Q310 which had a very nice Female Conductor. Then on the 5th i went back to Parsons and up to Cooke road, seeing 5 trains for the day. At Cooke i was railfanning with Irishman01. The infamous Snow Bowl game against OSU from 1950. Very few Wolverine fans were on hand to witness the triumph in Columbus because they couldn't get there. And the ones who did had a very difficult time getting home that Thanksgiving weekend. The day before the game, the worst blizzard since 1913 paralyzed the Midwest and Northeast and dipped as far south as Tennessee. At least 9 inches of snow alone had fallen on Columbus Saturday morning. By game time, the temperature was nero zero and winds swirled around Ohio Stadium at nearly 30 miles an hour. Amazingly, 50503 fans made it through the turnstiles. OSU officials did not even bother to take tickets so any spectator crazy enough to brave the weather elements could walk right in. The game itself was an anomaly. The majority of the game consisted of punts on both sides, sometimes even on first down, to play for field position. OSU's field goal and Michigan's TD and safety were all set up because of blocked punts. Michigan's Tony Momsen came up with the block and recovery for the game's only touchdown. The Wolverines ended up punting a total of 24 times. After the game, most of the UM players chose to remain in Columbus for the rest of the weeked instead of trying to brave the weather elements back to Ann Arbor. The victory became even better when Northwestern later upset Illinois giving Michigan the Rose Bowl bid where they would defeat unbeaten Cal.

Here's some severe weather from June 25, 2009, this time with NOAA Weather Radio station KIG-86 from Columbus, Ohio (I recorded the internet stream from the Weather Underground website). Watch for the tornado warning polygon to be redrawn around 5:10 minutes and the severe weather statement to be read a few seconds afterward. No tornadoes were reported from this storm.
Jeanetta Jones and Jim Cantore (filling in for Rich Johnson) host Weather Center on Columbus Day 2001 as Hurricane Iris is getting ready to make landfall. Note the special opener used for this post 9/11 show. By this point in October, I seem to remember the morning/early afternoon editions of Weather Center using this music, while the evening versions of Weather Center used the standard Weather Center music. I can't remember whether or not Evening Edition was still using their post 9/11 opener at this point. By the end of the month, all of the TWC shows were back to using their normal openers.

Severe Thunderstorms Hit Columbus, Ohio on 2/11/2009. This video was taken while I was stuck in rush hour traffic in downtown Columbus, Ohio right as the initial storm front hit. The lights at the beginning of the video are from the new baseball field for the Columbus Clippers. Winds of up to 70mph were reported in Columbus as well as some hail. There was a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for Franklin County at the time of this storm and a Tornado Watch was also in effect. There was some lightning but very little compared to storms that hit during the spring and summer. Drivers out there that think I ran a red light, it was actually yellow when I started into the intersection, however cars turning were blocking the intersection :)
