About 600 people gathered at the Dewan Hamzah in Klang today for the second Gerakan Anti-Samy Vellu (GAS) rally to campaign for MIC chief S Samy Vellu to step down. From the very outset, trouble loomed in the horizon with the arrival of about 50 members of Klang MIC, who watched from the entrance. Miller claims the melting permafrost contains twice as much CO2 as Earth's entire atmosphere. ----- Dan Miller's presentation focuses on why the UN IPCC (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change) reports are actually best case scenarios. For example, IPCC climate models do not include the effect of melting permafrost releasing greenhouse gases, even though the permafrost is melting now and it holds more greenhouse gases than all that mankind has ever released. Another example is that IPCC predictions of sea level rise only take into account thermal expansion of the oceans and melting of glaciers; the largest factor, disintegration of glaciers, was not included because it is hard to model. The result is that sea level rise will likely be substantially higher this century than the IPCC predicts. Miller discusses several other potential catastrophes that are not included in IPCC predictions and also discusses tipping points that could put climate change solutions out of our reach in years or decades, the psychology of climate change, and why it is difficult for people to respond to the threat posed by a warming earth. OSHA has not begun rulemaking on a comprehensive combustible dust standard, as recommended by the Chemical Safety Board in 2006. More needs to be done, according to CSB Chairman John Bresland. We hope you enjoy the video and here's a text review Here are a few quick hits on the new Gears 2 maps. Flood - This map surrounded by immulsion is one of the more visually arresting maps. The big draw here is that the immulsion actually rises as the clock counts and will eventually catch up and kill you. If you act fast, the low lying area you spawn on links to the other opponents spawn, and as long as you beat the immulsion, you'll gain a tactical advantage. There are a couple of magnums outside of the central hub of a map. Inside the center, there is a boomshot in the back and a mortar on the high ground. Overall, it's a fairly small map and seems frantic. Fuel Station - A sort of spiritual successor to the first game's Fuel Depot. This map takes place around a gas station. The gas pumps themselves can be blown up and there are plenty of explosive tanker trucks around the map. The map has a sort of Gridlock feel to it as it's rather cramped and closed off. Adjacent to the gas station is some high ground with a mortar on the top of it. Inside the gas station, you can counteract this leverage by taking a lift to the roof. The House has just passed the Worker Protection Against Combustible Dust Explosion and Fire Act, HR 5522 by a vote of 247-165. This bill would require the US Occupational Safety and Health Administration to issue rules regulating combustible industrial dusts, like sugar dust, that can build up to hazardous levels and explode. In early February the Imperial Sugar refinery in Port Wentworth, Georgia, exploded, killing 13 workers and severely injuring many more. OSHA and the US Chemical Safety Board, which have launched a major investigation into the Imperial Sugar explosion, have concluded that the explosion was caused by combustible sugar dust. In 2006, following a series of fatal combustible dust explosions, the US Chemical Safety Board conducted a major study of combustible dust hazards. It identified 281 combustible dust incidents between 1980 and 2005 that killed 119 workers, injured 718 others, and extensively damaged industrial facilities. Education and Labor Chairman George Miller denounces a Republican attempt to gut the legislation.
