CNN's Coverage of the Chilean Mine Rescue Operation. The first miner to be pulled from the mine, Florencio Ávalos. The procedure to retrieve the miners commenced on 12 October 2010 at 19:00 local time (22:00 UTC). The first rescuer lowered to the miners was Manuel González Pavez (Codelco), on 12 October 2010 at 23:19 local time (02:19 UTC), following a lengthy delay during which the rescue team on the surface encouraged and motivated him. During the trip, the waiting families and rescue team sang the National Anthem of Chile. González arrived in the collapsed mine and made contact with the miners at 23:36 local time. The original plan was for the capsule to return to the surface empty after delivering the first rescue worker, so as to deliver a second rescuer to the mine before bringing the first miner to the surface. However, in order to expedite the process, rescuers decided to bring a miner to the surface immediately after González was sent down. The capsule was quickly rechecked for safety, and after 15 minutes, miner Florencio Ávalos began his ascent from the mine; the scene was broadcast to a worldwide television audience by a camera brought to the mine by rescue worker González. The rescue plan indicates that the first four miners to reach the surface are those who are best ...

Debate: Secure Pakistan www.paffalcons.com Airblue Flight 202 was a scheduled domestic passenger flight which crashed on July 28, 2010 near Islamabad, the capital of Pakistan, killing all 146 passengers and six crew aboard. It is the deadliest air accident to occur in Pakistan to date. The aircraft, an Airblue operated Airbus A321-231 narrow-body jet airliner, crashed in the Margalla Hills north of Islamabad during a flight from Karachi's Jinnah International Airport to Benazir Bhutto International Airport. Air traffic controllers reportedly lost contact with the flight crew during its attempt to land in dense fog and heavy monsoon rain. The accident was the first fatal crash involving an Airbus A321, a long variant of the Airbus A320 family of short to medium range airliners. Based in Islamabad, Airblue is Pakistan's second largest airline with over 30% share of the domestic market. At the time of the accident the airline operated seven aircraft, all in the A320 family. The aircraft that crashed was an Airbus A321-231, registered AP-BJB, manufacturer's serial number 1218, which was built in 2000. This was the first fatal crash for the A321, and the second hull-loss of the type. The aircraft had originally been delivered to Aero Lloyd and used by Aero Flight before being taken up by Airblue in 2006. It had accumulated approximately 34000 flight hours in some 13500 flights. The flight left Karachi at 07:50 local time (01:50 UTC). Initial reports suggested that flight ...

Introduced in 1999 the SW07 is considered a logical upgrade to the SW100. Although the SW07 is a bit larger than the "totally tiny" SW100, it offers several upgraded features and performance in return. The SW07 is described as a Compact Portable at 9.1 ounces with batteries and is a tiny 5 3/8 x 1 5/16 x 3 5/8 inches. It is clearly aimed at the frequent traveler who is willing to shell out top dollar for a very small radio with all the bells and whistles, as well as much of the performance of the costlier SW77. In fact, the main strength of the SW07 is that it is uniquely adaptable for travel. One of the biggest features for the world traveler is "Station Call Tuning," which accesses a user-replaceable ROM (see picture) pre-programmed with broadcast station and frequency information arranged by Time Zone. This is a major step ahead of any other radio which comes pre-programmed with station frequencies. Here's how it works. On initial setup you set your Local Time either by choosing a major city near you or by entering the actual UTC Differential from a table included in the manual. As you then toggle through various Time Zones the radio will seek a database of frequencies most likely to work for that area! You can even have fun searching through some of the frequencies for time zones other than your own. Your Local Time Zone also determines the AM channel spacing (9 KHz or 10 KHz).You have dedicated buttons on the front panel for BBC, DW, VOA and in addition, "OTH" and ...
Video of the launch of the Apollo 11 mission Saturn V (July 1979) recorded at 500fps. This 8 minutes of recording document the first 30 seconds of the mission!!! This is the mission with Armstrong, Aldrin and Collins that landed on the moon. Narration is provided by Mark Gray, Executive Producer for Spacecraft Films. A Saturn V launched Apollo 11 from Launch Pad 39A, part of the Launch Complex 39 site at the Kennedy Space Center on July 16, 1969 at 13:32:00 UTC (9:32:00 am local time). It entered orbit 12 minutes later. After one and a half orbits, the S-IVB third-stage engine pushed the spacecraft onto its trajectory toward the Moon with the Trans Lunar Injection burn at 16:22:13 UTC. About 30 minutes later the command/service module pair separated from this last remaining Saturn V stage and docked with the lunar module still nestled in the Lunar Module Adaptor. After the lunar module was extracted, the combined spacecraft headed for the Moon, while the third stage booster flew on a trajectory past the moon and into solar orbit. On July 19 at 17:21:50 UTC, Apollo 11 passed behind the Moon and fired its service propulsion engine to enter lunar orbit. In the thirty orbits that followed, the crew saw passing views of their landing site in the southern Sea of Tranquility (Mare Tranquillitatis) about 20 kilometers (12 mi) southwest of the crater Sabine D (0.67408N, 23.47297E). The landing site was selected in part because it had been characterized as relatively flat and ...

Haiti Earthquake & the HAARP (High Frequency Active Auroral Research Program) Induction Magnetometer - you will now see 3 images based on a time-frequency spectrogram, which shows the frequency content of signals recorded by the HAARP Induction Magnetometer. This instrument, provided by the University of Tokyo, measures temporal variations in the geomagnetic field in the ULF (ultra-low frequency) range of 0-5 Hz. The spectrogram images are produced by computing the PSD (power spectral density) of successive 102.4-second segments of timeseries data, and plotting these spectra as color/intensity slices along a 24-hour scale. Audio files are created by converting the raw 10 Hz sampled waveform (Bx channel) to a wav file at 44.1 kHz (resulting in a playback speedup of 4410 times), and then compressing the 1.7MB wav file to a 150KB mp3 file. Tribute to all Haiti Victims of Earthquake. On January 12, 2010, at 21:53 UTC, (4:53 pm local time) Haiti was struck by a magnitude 7.0 earthquake, the country's most severe earthquake in over 200 years. The epicenter of the quake was just off the Haitian capital Port-au-Prince, sparking a tsunami watch for parts of the Caribbean, according to the US Geological Survey. Widespread damage resulted from the quake, with a majority of buildings collapsing due to poor structural design. The capital city was devastated. The Presidential Palace was badly damaged, with the second floor entirely collapsing onto the first floor; the Haitan Parliament building and the National Cathedral were also destroyed. The quake had a reported magnitude of 7.0, with the focus being about 6 miles (10 km) underground, according to the USGS. A tsunami watch was posted for Haiti and parts of Cuba, the Dominican Republic, and the Bahamas, but the watch was later canceled.
www.stormforum.net RIP!!!! Dedicated to all 2004 December 26th Boxing Day Tsunami Victims, families, those injured, and those otherwise affected. The terrible devastation and the aftermath of this catastrophe caught on tape. The 2004 Boxing Day tsunami was triggered by an earthquake off the north-west coast of the Indonesian island of Sumatra. It killed 230000 people in a dozen Indian Ocean countries, 170000 of them in Indonesia's Aceh province alone. Sri Lanka and Thailand were severely impacted by the tsunami on December 26, 2004. Tsunami Thailand 2004 Indian Ocean earthquake was an undersea earthquake that occurred at 00:58:53 UTC (07:58:53 local time) December 26, 2004, with an epicentre off the west coast of Sumatra, Indonesia. Surprisingly, some islands right in the middle of the tsunami were not badly affected. It turns out their atolls, or coral reefs, absorbed much of the wave. The coral ridges protected them. In many regions of the Asian waters, there is a practice some fishermen use, of dynamiting the natural coral reefs to bring up fish. These barriers to the tsunami were no longer in place to deflect the water. The disaster promoted a global outpouring of sympathy, with governments, individuals and corporations pledging more than $13 billion in aid. According to UN database, nearly two years after donors pledged billions to help the victims only half the money had been spent. Of the half a million people left homeless by the disaster, only a third have been ...

Singapore Airlines Flight 006 was a scheduled flight from Singapore Changi Airport to Los Angeles International Airport via Chiang Kai-Shek Airport (now Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport) in Taiwan, Republic of China. On 31 October 2000, at 15:17 UTC, 23:17 Taipei local time, a Boeing 747-412 on the route attempted to take off from the wrong runway in Taipei during a typhoon, destroying the aircraft and killing 83 of the 179 occupants. SQ006 was the first fatal crash of a Singapore Airlines aircraft; prior to the SQ006 crash, the sole fatal incident involving SIA was the crash of SilkAir Flight 185, operated by subsidiary SilkAir. At 15:00 UTC, 23:00 Taipei local time on 31 October 2000, 9V-SPK, a Boeing 747-400 delivered on 21 January 1997,[3] left Bay B5 during heavy rain caused by Typhoon Xangsane. RIP Copyright BBC News. Air France Flight 447 was a scheduled commercial flight from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, to Paris, that on 1 June 2009 crashed into the Atlantic Ocean, killing all 216 passengers and 12 crew members. The aircraft, an Air France Airbus A330-200 registered as F-GZCP, took off on 31 May 2009 at 19:03 local time (22:03 UTC). The last contact from the crew was a routine message to Brazilian air traffic controllers at 01:33 UTC, as the aircraft approached the edge of Brazilian radar surveillance over the Atlantic Ocean, en-route to Senegalese-controlled airspace off the coast of West Africa. Forty minutes later, a four-minute-long series of automatic radio messages was received from the plane, indicating numerous problems and warnings. The exact meanings of these messages are still under investigation, but the aircraft is believed to have been lost shortly after it sent the automated messages. On 6 June 2009, a search and rescue operation recovered two bodies and debris from the aircraft floating in the ocean 680 mi (1090 km) northeast of the Fernando de Noronha islands off Brazil's northern coast. The debris included a briefcase containing an airline ticket, later confirmed to have been issued for the flight. On 27 June the search for bodies and debris was called off, having recovered 51 bodies. This accident is the deadliest in the history of Air France.
