Climate change poses an unprecedented challenge and opportunity for the human community. Much will depend on how we respond over the next few years. What is perhaps most greatly needed is the guidance of our spiritual traditions, the wisdom and the love that comes from deep prayer and contemplative practice. Climate change, more than any other issue, has the potential to unite us as a human community. It also has the potential to divide us. We will succeed only if we are able to tap that which unifies so that we can know more deeply our Oneness, the underlying source from which all life is drawn. The Global Peace Initiative of Women (GPIW) organized a strong gathering of spiritual leaders from across the world in support of the United Nations Conference on Climate Change COP15 that took place in Copenhagen in December of 2009. The delegation included strong representation from the Eastern traditions and included faith leaders from countries strongly affected by climate change. Included in the delegation are representatives from Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Brazil, Croatia, Denmark, India, Israel, Italy, Japan, Kenya, Norway, Pakistan, Senegal, Thailand, UK, Uganda, the United States, and Vietnam. COPENHAGEN - The global summit to tackle climate change collapsed in this Danish capital Thursday as host Denmark insisted on pushing its own political declaration, ignoring the pleas of the poor nations. Indias Environment Minister Jairam Ramesh said: The blame game will now start, but the developing countries are not to be blamed. With Denmarks Prime Minister Lars Lokke Rasmussen refusing to show the environment minister of any developing country a draft of the political declaration he will present to the heads of state Thursday evening, the negotiators working to advance agreements on the Kyoto Protocol and long-term cooperative action to tackle climate change had little reason to go ahead — and those talks collapsed overnight too.
World leaders are embroiled in "chaotic" negotiations at the climate change summit in Copenhagen, with little hope that a legally binding treaty will be agreed. A draft document drawn up overnight was rejected as the talks failed to overcome the deadlock between wealthy and developing nations over deeper cuts in carbon emissions and who should bear the cost. French President Nicolas Sarkozy said Chinese resistance to monitoring of emissions was a sticking point after discussions about a wide range of issues including carbon cuts and international scrutiny of actions. Barack Obama flew in to Denmark for the final day of discussions and he is due to meet Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao on the sidelines of the talks.

World leaders are arriving in Copenhagen as hopes of a substantive agreement on tackling climate change appear to be slipping away. Wen Jaibao, the Chinese premier, is hoping his presence will help secure a deal by Friday. But an impasse over funding is threatening the success of the conference. Alan Fisher reports now on a day of protests and little progress.
Lord Monckton sits down with Jacek Szkudlarek of corbettreport.com and RBN to discuss climate change, Copenhagen and the larger agenda behind this push for world government. In this installment, Lord Monckton explains how the current meeting in Copenhagen is a type of street theater designed to obscure the fact that the important decisions have already been made behind the scenes.
