While all, some, or none may be true, with a thrilling 16-15 victory over Cleveland Glenville in the Division I state championship game Saturday, Dec. 5, at Canton's Fawcett Stadium, two-time state champion would be the most accurate. White rolled the dice with the game on the line and cashed in big-time as his underestimated Wildcats (13-1) scored the upset of upsets in winning 16-15, giving the school its second state crown in just four seasons. Davidson senior running back Spencer Delande scored on a 2-yard touchdown run with 1:04 left in regulation to make it 15-14, Tarblooders. But instead of going for the tying point-after, Davidson opted for a two-point conversion run. Starting quarterback Jake Trubiano, who carried his team on his shoulder all night, was in at running back for the conversion. He took a pitch running left and bowled his way into the end zone for what turned out to be the winning score. "We had this play in since the start of the playoffs," Trubiano said. "Coach told us if we ever used it, it would never fail." The coach had made a similar decision in a similar situation during the second overtime of the 2006 state championship game. Again, instead of playing for overtime this time around, he put faith in his system, his players and their execution. "If you make it," White said, "it's a good call ...
