A mixture of Performance art and experimental video, three surreal characters surprise the surroundings with an impromptu sunbathing session. It is the first of a series of happenings / video art for the SALVADOR DALI MUSEUM. Occurring in busy public areas around Tampa Bay, the happenings are intended to imbue the surroundings and engage passers-by with an element of the surreal, immediately replacing the mundane or ordinary with whimsy, surprise, nostalgia and imagination: with Dali. These are un-apologetically committed, dignified acts, fully embracing their self-manifested surreality. The series was created to celebrate its MEMBERS and VOLUNTEERS and aims to inspire others to "JOIN THE PARTY" and become MEMBERS and VOLUNTEERS themselves. After all, It was made with love by a 100% VOLUNTEER cast and crew!

aboutfacemedia.com "What will we make of ourselves tomorrow?" Director Hank Hine is hosting this evening's cookout to update his staff on the progress of the new Dali Museum. The new museum is opening in 2011, and will replace the current home of the most valuable collection of a single artists work in the United States. To Hank it's all about enjoyment of life, experimentation, and "what it is like to be alive today."

A trip to the Salvador Dali Museum whilst on holiday in Girona
Dali Museum Figueres 2009
Dali's home town and final resting place is at Figureus Spain, about an hour and a half from Barcelona by train.. We visited there last week, really great small town and an amazing museum containing Dali's tomb..
Salvador Domingo Felipe Jacinto Dalí i Domènech, 1st Marquis of Púbol (May 11, 1904 January 23, 1989) was a Spanish Catalan surrealist painter born in Figueres. Dalí (Spanish pronunciation: [dali]) was a skilled draftsman, best known for the striking and bizarre images in his surrealist work. His painterly skills are often attributed to the influence of Renaissance masters. His best-known work, The Persistence of Memory, was completed in 1931. Dalí's expansive artistic repertoire includes film, sculpture, and photography, in collaboration with a range of artists in a variety of media. Dalí attributed his "love of everything that is gilded and excessive, my passion for luxury and my love of oriental clothes" to a self-styled "Arab lineage," claiming that his ancestors were descended from the Moors. Dalí was highly imaginative, and also had an affinity for partaking in unusual and grandiose behavior, in order to draw attention to himself. This sometimes irked those who loved his art as much as it annoyed his critics, since his eccentric manner sometimes drew more public attention than his artwork. Music : Schubert

This is the trip my wife and I took to the Salvador Dali Museum in beautiful St. Petersburgh. I fell in love with this quaint small city. The work of Salvador Dali is of course beyond words. But like everything in this country the whole museum affair is very commercialized.
Because they don't allow pictures or video inside the museum, I shot this quick video of the outside. It gives you an idea of the natural setting of the museum, and the cool bench outside gives a great pre-cursor to the amazing art inside. The amount of Dali's artwork inside is astonishing.
Backpacked around Europe way back in '03, should have posted the random travel related videos years ago. I hope some people find them useful in planning their own upcoming trips.

L'espace Dali In the heart of Montmartre, Lespace Dalí presents the unique permanent exhibition in France entirely devoted to the Master of Surrealism, and more particularly to his sculptures and engravings. The largest collection in France of Dalís original sculptures: Dalís creative genius transforms into three-dimensional sculpture, bringing forth his most famous and fantastic surrealistic images. The passion to express himself sculpturally lasted throughout his lifetime (1904 1989), and each sculpture beholds a Dalinian philosophy. This superb collection, the most important assembly of Dalí sculptures in France, brings to light the Catalan Masters imagination, and exhibits an unknown aspect of Salvador Dalís work.
Located in the heart of Montmartre, the Salvador Dali Museum is a homage to the great master of the Surreal. It's a reflective and awesome space to observe Dali's work.
Interview in English. Introduction & Comments in Dutch. Belgian Channel: Een (www.een.be). Program: De Rode Loper. Amanda Lear is a model-turned-pop singer, painter and actress, who was also Dalis muse, disciple and close friend of him and of his formidable wife Gala. At the age of 16, Amanda Lear went to Paris to study painting and then in 1964 to the famous St Martins School in London. In 1965, as an art student at the Beaux-Arts and model in Paris, Amanda met Salvador Dali one more time and became his constant companion, muse, disciple and confidante for the next two decades. I knew nothing when I first met him, she admitted before Dali's death. He taught me to see things through his eyes. Dali was my teacher. He let me use his brushes, his paint and his canvas, so that I could play around while he was painting for hours and hours in the same studio. Surrealism was a good school for me. Listening to Dali talk was better than going to art school. She accompanied him and his wife on trips to Barcelona, Madrid, New York and Paris and spent every summer with Dali at his home in Cadaqués in Catalonia. Her house in southern France, near Avignon, was a farmhouse designed by Dali and contained a number of works of art by Spanish surrealist. 2009.

The Dalí Theatre-Museum, the largest surrealistic object in the world, occupies the building of the former Municipal Theatre, a 19th century construction which was destroyed at the end of the Spanish Civil War. On its ruins, Dalí decided to create his museum.

Some photos in and around the Dali Museum The Dalí Theatre and Museum (Teatre-Museu Dalí in Catalan language), is a museum of the artist Salvador Dalí in his home town of Figueres, in Catalonia. The heart of the museum was the building that housed the town's theatre when Dalí was a child, and where one of the first public exhibitions of young Dalí's art was shown. The old theater was bombed in the Spanish Civil War and remained in a state of ruin for decades until Dalí and the mayor of Figueres decided to rebuild it as a museum dedicated to the town's most famous son in 1960. The museum also occupies buildings and courtyards adjacent to the old theater building.
