Hoboken's newly elected mayor, Peter Cammarano, and Secaucus Mayor were both arrested, as was Jersey City Deputy Mayor Leona Baldini. Assemblyman Daniel Van Pelt was also taken into custody. All are accused of major corruption and international money laundering. According to officials, the dozens of suspects, including several rabbis from New York and New Jersey, were being brought to FBI Headquarters in Downtown Newark. Cars are reportedly backed up four deep with suspects outside the office. Numerous Jersey City political officials were also arrested. They include: Baldini and Jersey City Council President Mario Vega, Jersey City Council candidate La Vern Webb-Washington and Michael Manzo, a long-time veteran of the Jersey City Fire Department. Manzo appears to be at the center of the probe, which also involved political bid rigging. Officials say the arrests were made by agents with the FBI and IRS. A news conference is scheduled for noon at the US Attorney's Office in Newark. Newark Mayor Cory Booker, who has fought corruption in New Jersey' largest city, says it's "an unbelievable morning so far."
