Lindsay Lohan was led away from a Beverly Hills courtroom in handcuffs this afternoon and taken back to jail, where she is expected to spend nearly a month awaiting a hearing for violating her probation by failing a drug test. Judge Elden Fox denied Lohan bail and set a 22 October hearing to decide whether the 24-year-old had violated terms of her probation on a 2007 conviction for drink-driving and cocaine possession. The Mean Girls actor spent two weeks in jail in August and 22 further days on a residential drug programme when a different judge ruled she violated probation for the same charge. After being released from rehab Lohan was subject to court-ordered drug tests. Late last week Lohan sent out a series of messages on Twitter admitting she failed a test and saying she was working to overcome her substance abuse. "Regrettably I did in fact fail my most recent drug test, and if I am asked I am prepared to appear before Judge Fox," Lohan tweeted last week. On Monday an arrest warrant was issued and Fox ordered Lohan to appear in his court on Friday. Lohan's lawyer, Shawn Chapman Holley, did not appear outside the Beverly Hills courthouse after her client was taken into custody, but the actor's estranged father, Michael Lohan, talked to reporters and said he was angry with the judge's decision.
