7. Publications are scrambling for new ways to make money with the sharp decline in advertising revenue for print editions of newspapers and magazines. Time, Inc. is acquiring Stylefeeder.com, an online service that offers personalized shopping recommendations. The business model provides a percentage of sales to go to Time. Is there a way Time could capitalize on the long tail through this latest business strategy? Time Inc. and other magazine publishers are bleeding advertising market share to websites like Facebook, Yahoo, and Google. These sites allow marketers to target a more narrow segment of consumers that are more likely to have an interest in their offering. With the acquisition of Stylefeeder.com, Time Inc. is attempting to diversify its revenue streams and gain footing in the world of e-commerce. Stylefeeder generates revenue through a commission it receives by referring shoppers to e-commerce sites. In addition to the revenue generated by the existing Stylefeeder.com business model, Time should consider weaving Stylefeeder.com techonology into their existing magazine websites such as Time.com, InStyle.com, and People.com. Stylefeeder.com captures product, brand, and style preferences of it's members, which could be extremely useful in presenting relevant, targeted advertising to readers of Time Inc.'s websites. Additionally, live links could be established within the text or images of stories. For example, in an article on InStyle.com about the latest fashion ...
www.inflation.us news.google.com December 7, 2009 Unemployment Decline An Illusion, Financial System Collapse Ahead On Friday it was announced by the Bureau of Labor Statistics that the US unemployment rate in November declined from 10.2% to 10%. While the mainstream media would like you to believe we have seen a peak in unemployment and the worst of the economic crisis is behind us, we know that this dip in the unemployment number is phony and the recession is only beginning. Although the unemployment number dipped in November, we still lost 11000 nonfarm jobs. Unemployment fell by 0.2% only because the civilian labor force shrunk in November by 98000 people. This means more people are becoming discouraged and giving up looking for jobs. When you combine both short and long-term discouraged workers who aren't included in the labor force along with those who are underemployed with part-time jobs, real unemployment in the US today is nearly 22%. The most important area of employment to look at is manufacturing jobs. Increasing manufacturing is the only way for our country to truly recover and build real wealth, because it will allow us to cut down on inflation by exporting real products instead of the money we print. Unfortunately, the US lost 41000 manufacturing jobs in November and has lost 2.1 million manufacturing jobs over the last two years. The main areas of increasing employment in November were health care and government jobs, which are non-productive jobs that ...

The late, great Adam Again. From their 1992 album Dig. Unfortunately this album—and every other Adam Again album—is out of print. You can find used copies on eBay or Amazon, but it's getting harder and harder. "Hidden, Hidden" Adam Again Dig (Brainstorm 1992) See the way I feel Is hidden, hidden The way I feel It's time If you'd reveal What's hidden, hidden Is it time? What have I missed, make me a list I can try but you resist Stir my soul, dig me a hole I can't move what you control Still, I'm afraid to hear it It's hidden, hidden I'm afraid to hear it I feel fine, sevens and nines You can offer, I'll decline Drop my guard, heavy and hard I will treasure what you discard Hit me in the head, send me to bed I forgot what you just said Make my day, send me away Send me away, send me away Yes we ought to talk about it What I need to say is What I mean to say is I don't want to talk about it Though I can see the future I prefer to close my eyes Show me a sign, boggle my mind Water burns as I decide Teardrops stained, pleasure and pain You are different, I'm the same I fear That it could destroy me If you reveal What's hidden, hidden

American journalism has entered a phase of what the economist Joseph Schumpeter called creative destruction. Gone are the fat profit margins that once underwrote investigative teams and deep, experienced teams of reporters to monitor and hold accountable both government and private power. New and exciting forms of journalism are sprouting, but new business models have yet to evolve to replace the old ones that are crumbling. And while the demise of any one media outlet is a problem mainly for its owners and audience, the broad decline of independent, investigative journalism is a serious threat to US politics and public interest. If the market won't underwrite good journalism, are there other models that will?
