Kubuntu 11.04beta on Dell Vostro 3350 - here is a small review of my red i5 Dell Vostro 3350: On the left side close to the DVD as connectors you have LAN, 2xUSB3.0, back: power connector, right side: VGA connctor, HDMI port, combined USB2.0/eSATA port , micophone and headphone, in the front right hand a card reader, dont't forget the finger print reader. Quality Build-In Webacm & mircophone is very fine ! Most time (watching video & surfing) the vostro is very silent, only when more i5 2310M power is required the fan(s?) becomes loud. I don't have tested the run time of the accumulator - I guess 4-5h for video/ surfing due to the 35W of i5-2510. Screen display is a NON glare (!) and IMO very good. The 3D perfomance is ok (but only tested with google earth) During watching 720*576 PAL video CPU power is at about 12% and HD 1080p video via external LED TV only 20% CPU power with VLC. BT3.0 is also support and wireless video (not tested) ! There is only an internal card slot for WWAN card but no external PCI Express Card slot ! Linux: Old Kubuntu 11.04 beta1 version even detects USB3 HW and Sandy Bridge Video HW with HW 3D/openGL support! WLAN works fine, WEBCAM was detected, too. Dual Screen as you can see in video. Only boot via USB3.0 was not possible (did not find rootfs, due to missing kernel mod in initrd). I wil install release version on hardisk when available at the end of April. In this video I upgrade the Dell Vostro 3400's RAM from 4Gb of DDR3-10600 (1333Mhz) to 8Gb of DDR3-8500 (1066Mhz). Normally this would be a downgrade in speed, since the RAM speed is slower, but since the Core i5 in my laptop doesn't support 1333Mhz RAM, it wasn't taking advantage of the extra speed, and was actually being slowed down by the CAS Latency of the faster RAM. FYI, this is not my main channel, so the topics may not be 100% Linux-related. Thanks for watching! My quick review of the Dell Vostro V13 laptop - please find a full review on my website, www.techgearguy.com. Ranging anywhere from $450 to $650, this model of laptop offers portability not commonly found in this price range. Coupled that with its sleek industrial minimalist design, even a Mac fanboy like myself can appreciate how nice it is.
