Norman Rockwell could not have painted a more picturesque day for baseball in Toledo on Wedensday. The Toledo Mud Hens hosting the parent-club Detroit Tigers for the first time since 2000 and for the first time ever at Fifth-Third Field. Detroit won the game 8-3, thanks in-part to former Mud Hen Ryan Raburn, who hit a two run triple, part of five run third inning. "It was awesome," said Raburn. "Especially coming back here. I had some great memories coming back here. Playing in front of this crowd at this park, you know. I've had some great times here but I think I'm a little better off being on the other side right now." Hens Manager Phil Nevin was not as interested in the outcome of the exhibition but the fact it was even being played. "It was a special day for this city, without a doubt," said Nevin. "I know everybody's been looking forward to it for a long time. I don't think it disappointed." Tigers skipper Jim Leyland said he hoped the game would be played on Tuesday, so his team could get a workout at Comerica Park prior to tomorrow's opener against Boston. However, the Perrysburg native recognized the significance of playing in northwest Ohio. "This is great," said Leyland. "The Mud Hens are a great affiliation with us. We really appreciate that. We're very grateful for that. We wanted to do something nice for them." Detroit pitcher Duane Below had a nice 36 hours. Just yesterday we interviewed him in the Mud Hen clubhouse after he drove all night from Tigers camp ...

DETROIT, MI - Luck be a Tiger tonight. I think that's a Frank Sinatra song, but I may be wrong. Either way it perfectly describes the Detroit Tigers victory in Game 5 of the ALCS. With a runner on in the 6th inning, Tigers first baseman Miguel Cabrera hit what should have been a double play ball to third. Instead his grounder bounced off the bag, shot over the outstretched arm of Adrain Beltre and went into left field. The lucky bounce allowed Ryan Raburn to score from first base and started a four run inning for Detroit. "We got...a lucky break. That ball off the bag, you know, we've been really looking for that all series and we were able to get it so...it's just [a] great team win," said Raburn, who later added a solo home run in the 7th. "I have that bag in my office right now. And that will be in my memorabilia room at some point in my life, I can promise you," joked Manager Jim Leyland after the game. The sixth inning also marked the first natural cycle by a team in postseason history. Raburn started with a single, Cabrera followed with the bag-hopping double, Victor Martinez was up next, sending a shot into right field just beyond the outstretched arm of the Rangers' Nelson Cruz for a triple, then Delmon Young brought Martinez home with his second home run of the game to left-center field. The scoring started in the 3rd with a solo home run to left from Alex Avila. Combined with Young's two moon-shots and Raburn's long ball, the Tigers recorded their most home runs ...

Great moments from 1984 season
Boesch came to the plate with one out in the bottom of the eighth inning and the score tied 5-5, facing newly-acquired Rangers reliever Mike Adams - in Adams' first appearance since coming over from the Padres at the trade deadline. The light rain, which had coated much of the game, became much heavier throughout Boesch's four-minute at-bat. With fans heading for shelter from the increasingly-intense rain, Boesch teeded off on Adams' seventh pitch and crushed it into the rightfield seats for his 18th homer of the season, giving the Tigers a 6-5 lead. Tigers reliever Joaquin Benoit (3-3) got the win despite issuing three runs on a pair of homers in the top of the eighth to tie the game 5-5. Jose Valverde protected the win a scoreless ninth for his 29th save - putting the Tigers (58-51) three games ahead of the Indians. The Rangers' record dropped to 61-49. Me and my mates sat through the rain and had a blast! (I called the homer at the 1:05 mark of the vid!!) :)
