A sequence from Howard Hawks's second western, The Big Sky, from a screenplay by frequent John Ford collaborator Dudley Nichols and starring Kirk Douglas, Dewey Martin, Arthur Hunnicutt, and Elizabeth Threatt. - www.imdb.com
The Holy Mackerel was a loosely shifting organization (early Jefferson Airplane bassist Bob Harvey and Buffalo Springfield drummer Dewey Martin were among its members) but at it's heart was Paul Williams song writing in pop, country and psychedelic directions with the help of future platinum producer Richard Perry. The 1968 result was a record that should have sold a lot more copies than it did; the band broke up right after its release and Reprise didn't promote it, but be sure to catch it this time around. Though the album bears some of the pop smarts that would characterize Williams's '70s work, it is a product of its time: a psychedelic pop-rock outing with swirling melodies, Eastern influenced modalities, reverb and phaser effects, and high-flown harmonies. It's a fun, pleasurable listen... Audio Source: rapidshare.com - Erzeugt mit AquaSoft DiaShow für YouTube: www.aquasoft.de

For being a mostly unrehearsed set, I think it went along real well. ♫ About Bis + Martin: For the second consecutive year I was happy to be closing the festivities on both Friday and Saturday night at this annual musical celebration that brings some of the most talented Delaware bands to the beach and with it hundreds of revelers looking to hear great music. Though this year was that much more special as I teamed up with a friend and exceptional musician, Martin West from DE's "The Metrosexuals". Martin has been kind enough to join me in a project yet to be named, which will feature LIVE Drumming, DJing, and non-stop dance/party music. We are set to perform all through the summer at your favorite Dewey beach venues, and will hold down our weekly residency at Northbeach in Dewey every saturday night. This record is the second released version of Tomorrow's Gonna Be Another Day, recorded and released prior to the Monkees version. This version comes from mid April 1965 on the northwest US based label Jerden Records (for the record, the first released version of this song was by the Astronauts on RCA Victor records from early March 1965). This group's name often changes from Sir Raleigh to Sir Walter Raleigh and Cupons or Coupons depending on what sources you use, however I can only tell you what the record label says (however as we all know they're not always accurate). This group was fronted by the late Dewey Martin prior to his joining the Buffalo Springfield. Another famous member of this group (prior to his stardom) was "Sneaky" Pete Kleinow. After this release, their next record was picked up by A&M records who also issued a follow up record to that one, without much success. The group was then picked up by Tower records for another release before Dewey fired the entire band and cut one final single for Tower with all new musicians. The rest, as they say, is history. You can hear great records like this one live every night on www.topshelfoldies.org!

PLEASE NOTE: I divided my uploads between multiple channels, Bookmark this link in your browser for instant access to an index with links to all of John1948's oldies classics. LINK: jeb1948.blogspot.com Apart from the Byrds, no other American band had as great an impact on folk-rock and country-rock -- really, the entire Californian rock sound -- than Buffalo Springfield. The group's formation is the stuff of legend: driving on Sunset Boulevard in Los Angeles, Stephen Stills and Richie Furay spotted a hearse that Stills was sure belonged to Neil Young, a Canadian he had crossed paths with earlier. Indeed it was, and with the addition of fellow hearse passenger and Canadian Bruce Palmer on bass and ex-Dillard Dewey Martin on drums, the cluster of ex-folkys determined, as the Byrds had just done, to become a rock & roll band. Buffalo Springfield wasn't together long -- they were an active outfit for just over two years, between 1967 and 1968 --but every one of their three albums was noteworthy. Their debut, including their sole big hit (Stills' "For What It's Worth"), established them as the best folk-rock band in the land barring the Byrds, though Springfield was a bit more folk and country oriented. Again, their second album found the group expanding their folk-rock base into tough hard rock and psychedelic orchestration, resulting in their best record. The group was blessed with three idiosyncratic, talented songwriters in Stills, Young, and Furay (the last of whom didn ...

Here's another live track thought to have been recorded at the Fillmore Auditorium, San Fran, late December, 1967 with the reformed original lineup. The sound quality of the vocal track is muffled, but the guitars sound great, and it obtains heaviosity... According to the Fillmore poster the opening band was Hourglass, precursor of The Allman Bros. Band...

This recording is believed to be from a three-show run at the Fillmore West, December 21-23, 1967 when the original lineup was briefly together again. There are a handful of recordings of live Buffalo Springfield shows but as far as I know only this one has both Neil and Bruce. The sound quality is a little fudgey but the performance is fantastic.
Theatrical trailer for the Korean War classic, MEN OF THE FIGHTING LADY, starring Van Johnson, Walter Pidgeon, Louis Calhern, Keenan Wynn and Dewey Martin. Scripter Art Cohn built his script about a US Navy carrier jet squadron around two short stories -- "Fogotten Heroes of Korea" by James A. Michener and "The Case of the Blind Pilot" by Cmdr. Harry Burns -- into a riveting wartime drama that flew much of the same airspace as Michener's best-selling book, THE BRIDGES AT TOKO-RI, the screen version of which would land on screens later in 1954 and starred William Holden and Grace Kelly. www.foxstore.com www.foxstore.com The Longest Day is a 1962 war film based on the 1959 history book The Longest Day by Cornelius Ryan, about "D-Day", the invasion of Normandy on 6 June 1944, during World War II. Producer Darryl F. Zanuck paid the author of the book, Cornelius Ryan, $175000 for the screen rights to produce the film. The film was adapted by Romain Gary, James Jones, David Pursall, Cornelius Ryan, and Jack Seddon from the Ryan book. It was directed by Ken Annakin (British and French exteriors), Andrew Marton (American exteriors), Gerd Oswald (parachute drop scene), Bernhard Wicki (German scenes) and Darryl F. Zanuck (uncredited). Many of the military consultants and advisors who helped with the film's production were actual participants in the action on D-Day, and are portrayed in the film. The producers drew them from both sides; Allied and Axis. Among them are Günther Blumentritt (a former German general), James M. Gavin (an American general), Frederick Morgan (Deputy Chief of Staff at SHAEF), John Howard (who led the airborne assault on the Pegasus Bridge), Lord Lovat (who commanded the 1st Special Service Brigade), Philippe Kieffer (who led his men in the assault on Ouistreham), Pierre Koenig (who commanded the Free French Forces in the invasion), Max Pemsel (a German general), Werner Pluskat (the major who was the first German officer to see the invasion fleet), Josef "Pips" Priller (the hot-headed pilot) and Lucie Rommel (widow of Erwin Rommel). song: "Nowadays Clancy Can't Even Sing artist: The Buffalo Springfield Monterey Pop Festival 1967 Nice board tape of the Buffalo Springfield but I have to chuckle at this one. The story goes that the record executives thought Neil Youngs voice was "wierd" so they had Richie Furay sing some of his songs. (I guess Neil Young showed them huh?) Anyway, I believe Richie sings lead on this song. Even more surprising is that for their Monterey Pop performance Neil Young wasn't even in the line up. The "Buffalo Sprinfield" for this show were: Steven Stills - lead guitar, vocals Doug Hastings - guitar Richie Furay - rhythm guitar, vocals Bruce Palmer - bass Dewey Martin - drums, vocals David Crosby - guitar, vocals No Neil Young? David Crosby? Does anyone out there know the story behind this strange line up for this show? The CD that this song is taken from is pictured.
