The film is a historical drama set during the reign of Elizabeth I (Flora Robson), focusing on the English defeat of the Spanish Armada, whence the title. In 1588, relations between Spain and England are at the breaking point. With the support of Queen Elizabeth I, English sea raiders such as Sir Francis Drake regularly capture Spanish merchantmen bringing gold from the New World. Elizabeth's chief advisors are the lord treasurer, Lord Burleigh (Morton Selten), and her longtime admirer, Robert Dudley, Earl of Leicester (Leslie Banks). Burleigh's beautiful but featherbrained granddaughter Cynthia (Vivien Leigh) is one of Elizabeth's ladies-in-waiting, and the aging queen is plagued with jealousy of the girl's attractiveness and vitality. In a sea battle between the Spanish, led by Don Miguel (Robert Rendel), and the English, led by his old friend Sir Richard Ingolby (Lyn Harding) the English are captured. Miguel arranges for Richard's son Michael (Laurence Olivier) to escape. Michael washes ashore on Miguel's estate, and his wounds are tended to by Miguel's daughter Elena (Tamara Desni), who quickly becomes enamoured of the handsome Englishman. As the months pass, Michael recovers and laments being apart from Cynthia, his sweetheart, but is nonetheless impressed by Elena's charms. Miguel brings Michael the sad news that Sir Richard, his father, has been executed as a heretic. The grieving Michael denounces his rescuers and flees to England in a small fishing boat. When he ...

This is my cover of the damn epic theme song from Scrubs (the greatest show of all time :D), Superman by Lazlo Bane. Everything was made by me (all guitar parts and vocals). Just cos I love Scrubs so much, I threw a few pics and also the opening sequence in there, just because I thought it would fit niceley and make it more interesting to watch. Cheers :D:D
London: 23 November 2009 Flash Alert! Flash Alert! A good line from a song for today was 'In the cold November Rain' from Guns N' Roses. I arrived at the Royal Opera House in Covent Garden after a short walk around eight thirty and there were just a few fans. Numbers grew over the morning. By twelve we knew the score. No barriers, no red carpet and the paps inside in the warm. Could it get much worse for fans? No matter, the stars soon began to arrive and the hubbub began. Plenty of stars were happy to take the time out to autograph, chat and pose with fans who called their name. The weather and umbrellas added a challenge though. I missed a few on the way in so I lunched and returned to catch them exiting in the gathering gloom. Celebs spotted: Natascha McElhone Anna Friel Kevin Spacey Kirsty Young Mark Rylance Fiona Shaw Juliet Stevenson Zoe Wanamaker Richard Wilson Vanessa Redgrave Franco Nero Sian Phillips Alison Steadman Andrew Marr Sir Donald Sinden Kenneth Cranham As usual, please let me know of omissions, errors and comments. Here are two wonderful songs performed by the great Della Reese, chosen to illustrate the rare beauty of the sublime Sharon Tate, who had a tragic destiny. Sharon Marie Tate (1943 1969) was an American actress. During the 1960s she played small television roles before appearing in several films. After receiving positive reviews for her comedic performances, she was hailed as one of Hollywood's promising newcomers and was nominated for a Golden Globe Award for her performance in "Valley of the Dolls" (1967). She also appeared regularly in fashion magazines as a model and cover girl. Married to the film director Roman Polanski in 1968, Tate was eight and a half months pregnant when she was murdered in her home, along with four others, by followers of satanist Charles Manson. Even if her career was short, she played in many films, including "Eye of the Devil" (co-starring David Niven, Deborah Kerr, Donald Pleasence, and David Hemmings), Polanski's "The Fearless Vampire Killers" (Polanski had first chosen Jill St. John for the role), "Don't Make Waves" (with Tony Curtis), "Valley of the Dolls". Then Tate began to place less importance on her career, until Polański told her that he wanted to be married to "a hippie, not a housewife". The couple returned to Los Angeles and quickly became part of a social group that included some of the most successful young people in the film industry, including Steve McQueen, Warren Beatty, Mia Farrow, Peter Sellers, Jacqueline Bisset, Leslie ...

Ten Chimneys, Genesee Depot, Wisconsin On July 13, 2009, ten of the most respected and talented actors from across the United States formed the inaugural class of the Lunt-Fontanne Fellowship Program and embarked on a week of intensive study and reflection on the art of acting, led by master teacher and revered Shakespearean actress, Lynn Redgrave. The Lunt-Fontanne Fellowship Program is a groundbreaking national program to serve regional theatre actors and the future of American theatre. The program, created by Ten Chimneys Foundation, is a fitting tribute to Alfred Lunt and Lynn Fontanne, who are widely regarded as the greatest acting couple in the history of the American theatre. Answering the question, where do our nations acting mentors go to be mentored? the inaugural Lunt-Fontanne Fellows have come to Ten Chimneys to study with Ms. Redgrave and literally walk in the footsteps of the Lunts closest pals and protégés (Helen Hayes, Noël Coward, Alexander Woollcott, Katharine Hepburn, Laurence Olivier, Uta Hagen, Montgomery Clift, Julie Harris, and on and on) The 2009 Lunt-Fontanne Fellows: • Suzanne Bouchard nominated by Seattle Repertory Theatre (Seattle ...

I like Melissa. I liked the character Lauren, too. You know what? I was thinking. Who knows what 20- 25 years in the future will bring. I mean maybe you will go in the stores like Spencer Gifts, in the future, and there will be t-shirts, handbags and other items with silk-screened pics on them of Lauren Reed pointing a gun at you, geared toward a young or any female demographic who want to assert themselves and get what they want. Hmmmm. It could happen I guess. Look at Bettie Page. Al Pacino. Marilyn.

Laurence Leamer, author of NY Times Bestseller 2009 "Madness Under The Royal Palms" has been advised to hire personal protection. The Palm Beach police chief reported that his life may be in danger. Leamer is no stranger to controversy, having written books on the Kennedy Family, Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, Johnny Carson and other celebrities. But this time, he may have gone too far, some believe. He decided to focus on Palm Beach, the exclusive playground to the world's richest and most powerful people. Some of the names in the book include Donald Trump, Fred Keller (who murdered his wife, Rose), the Lauder Empire, the royal family and many others. Leamer paints a less than flattering picture of the divided Jewish community as well as the elitist WASPs who rule the roost. Madness is a battle of the elite, and certainly many of the book's subjects are none too pleased with the revelation of their activities, affairs and vapid ways. Since the book was released in January 20, 2009, Leamer has been run off the road by an SUV, threatened, yelled at and blackballed from the Island's most exclusive clubs. They are circling the wagons, especially since the Madoff scandal now puts the focus on the biggest group of investors -- the fellow members of Madoff's Jewish club, where they implicitly entrusted Madoff with--in some cases--all of their assets. See the book's website for details: www.MadnessUnderTheRoyalPalms.com

The end. People have asked in the comments which cast members did and didn't die of AIDS-related illnesses, so here's the list... Kenneth Nelson (Michael): died from AIDS Frederick Combs (Donald): died from AIDS Cliff Gorman (Emory): died from leukemia, didn't have AIDS Laurence Luckinbill (Hank): still alive Keith Prentice (Larry): died from AIDS Peter White (Alan): still alive Reuben Greene (Bernard): still alive Robert La Tourneaux (Cowboy/"Tex"): died from AIDS Leonard Frey (Harold): died from AIDS So while it's true, sadly, that over half the cast ended up dying of AIDS-related illnesses, any urban legends about "all the guys in this movie died from AIDS!" are indeed urban legends.
The highly quotable campy gay classic from the last days of the era before the Stonewall Riots. Michael (Kenneth Nelson) throws a birthday party for Harold (Leonard Frey) and invites their crowd of gay friends. In attendance are Donald (Frederick Combs), whose homosexuality has put him into therapy; Emory (Cliff Gorman), a flaming queen; Bernard (Reuben Greene), a black bookstore clerk; Hank (Laurence Luckinbill), a teacher who's separated from his wife; and Larry (Keith Prentice), his boyfriend, who doesn't think their relationship should mean that he has to stop sleeping around. Things are complicated by the arrival of Alan (Peter White), Michael's presumably straight friend from collegee, and Cowboy (Robert La Tourneaux), a prostitute who is Emory's birthday present for Harold. Written by Mart Crowley and based on his play of the same name, directed by William Friedkin, who went on to direct The Exorcist. Tragically, several of the cast members are now dead from AIDS. Rated R for a lot of sex talk and a brief bare butt shot.
