This was my very first editing project. This project was to take an assigned movie, in my case "The Grifters", chop it up and put together a 60 second wrap up of the movie. We were not allowed any music or fade in/outs (no FX at all), so the way my teacher explained it was to imagine there was one guy making cool graphics, another doing the music, and the voice over guy to make the trailer amazing. Our job was simply to pick the clips that helped showcase the movie. This was made in June of 2010. This was edited in Final Cut Pro 7. "The Grifters" is a Miramax release directed by Stephen Frears produced by Martin Scorsese written by Donald E. Westlake edited by Mick Audsley
Done as an extra credit video project for Daniel's English 11 class. Nackles is a short story written by Donald E. Westlake (AKA Curt Clark) which was supposed to become a Twilight Zone episode back in the 60s. Since it was cancelled due to its mature nature (involving religion and Santa), this team got together and made their own short film based on the story. If you're interested in reading the story, you can read it online at www.nackles.com. We do not own the rights to the original Twilight Zone opening, The King of Pain by The Police or Santa Claus is Coming to Town by Frank Sinatra. They were used for this fan made film. Thanks.

rogerebert.suntimes.com "We are told to hate the sin but not the sinner, and as I watched "Monster" I began to see it as an exercise in the theological virtue of charity. It refuses to objectify Wuornos and her crimes and refuses to exploit her story in the cynical manner of true crime sensationalism -- insisting instead on seeing her as one of God's creatures worthy of our attention. She has been so cruelly twisted by life that she seems incapable of goodness, and yet when she feels love for the first time she is inspired to try to be a better person." Trekkies Bash New Star Trek Film As 'Fun, Watchable': www.youtube.com "As a child, George Lucas was a big fan of the sci-fi and adventure serials of the 30s. As an unknown director, he tried to get the rights to remake Flash Gordon into a sci-fi epic. The problem being that those rights were owned by King Features... the same people who said "no" to the game that would become Donkey Kong. You probably see where this is going. In an interview contained in The Making of Star Wars, Lucas recalls that when he met with King Features to discuss Flash Gordon, they were asking for 80 percent of the profits, Federico Fellini as the director and probably a magical unicorn that granted wishes by giving blowjobs. Lucas politely declined via the tried and true "double bird while urinating in the coffee pot" method, and decided to make his sci-fi epic anyway--it would just be an original this time. But it wasn't just the opening titles ...

This is a DVD extra on the Director's cut of PAYBACK. Great mini interview with Westlake. Talking about being Richard Stark, the writer of the Parker books. Point Blank, Payback, are movies made from the original Parker book THE HUNTER. I highly recommend the director's cut of PAYBACK. The director went through a world of shit, being fired, editing actual film instead of using an Avid system, to put a pretty successful vision of the world of Parker out there.
The late crime novelist Donald E. Westlake, memorialized in his own words, with apologies to the Buena Vista Social Club (he really liked the music).
