Scott received some training in jazz as a child, but was excited enough by the hip-hop innovations of Run-DMC to pursue that direction instead. Dred Scott v. Sandford,[1] 60 US (19 How.) 393 (1857), commonly referred to as The Dred Scott Decision, was a decision by the United States Supreme Court that ruled that people of African descent imported into the United States and held as slaves, or their descendants[2]—whether or not they were slaves—were not protected by the Constitution and could never be citizens of the United States. It also held that the United States Congress had no authority to prohibit slavery in federal territories. The Court also ruled that because slaves were not citizens, they could not sue in court. Lastly, the Court ruled that slaves—as chattel or private property—could not be taken away from their owners without due process. The Supreme Court's decision was written by Chief Justice Roger B. Taney.

The Civil War and Reconstruction (HIST 119) Professor Blight continues his march through the political events of the 1850s. Blight continues his description of the aftermath of the Kansas-Nebraska Act of 1854, describing the guerilla war that reigned in the territory of Kansas for much of 1856. The lecture continues, describing the caning of Senator Charles Sumner on the floor of the US Senate and the birth of the Republican party. The lecture concludes with the near-victory of Republican candidate John C. Fremont in the presidential election of 1856, and the passage of the Dred Scott decision in 1857. Complete course materials are available at the Open Yale Courses website: open.yale.edu This course was recorded in Spring 2008.
The Civil War and Reconstruction (HIST 119) Professor Blight narrates the momentous events of 1857, 1858, and 1859. The lecture opens with an analysis of the famous Lincoln-Douglas debates of 1858. Next, Blight analyzes the Dred Scott decision and discusses what it meant for northerners--particularly African Americans--to live in "the land of the Dred Scott decision." The lecture then shifts to John Brown. Professor Blight begins by discussing the way that John Brown has been remembered in art and literature, and then offers a summary of Brown's life, closing with his raid on Harpers Ferry in October of 1859. Complete course materials are available at the Open Yale Courses website: open.yale.edu This course was recorded in Spring 2008.

We won! This video from CBS shows a part of the Couric video that didn't air on TV. It shows Biden first, getting the same questions as Palin and handling them just fine; then Palin comes on and can't even name a Supreme Court decision she disagrees(or name a decision at all) In June 2008 the Supreme Court made a decision that adversely affected all citizens of Alaska directly when they cut the Exxon-Valdez settlement to 500 million from 2.5 billion. Four months ago! This woman has a 1 in 5 chance of becoming President if McCain gets elected. :( Vote Obama!
