OK another how to get something free video. This time I make a homemade DTV antenna. This took about an hour to build with parts I had laying around. Got 9 channels on my initial scan and I was blown away by the picture quality. Watching the Olympics with this was so much better than my cable provider which is apparently over charging me for a crappy picture. I am going to put this antenna on the roof and do another scan. Matt Jones from Florida was allegedly building one of these. I want him to know I posted mine first! So in this video I challenge Matt to build a Wifi booster so that neither of us have to pay for internet any more! Bragging rights go to whoever gets there first but if we succeed we will both be winners! Internet providers will be the losers. Time to sell the Yacht bastards!
Freeview reception in some parts of Corsham Wilts is not very good. The Digital Switchover in March / April 2010 will see the Corsham transmitter only offer around 15 TV channels + around 10 radio channels. The Mendip transmitter from which Corsham gets its relayed signal offers around 50 TV channels and a similar amount of radio channels. In this post we see the antenna one Corsham householder hopes he can get a Freeview signal from Mendip and get the full set of channels rather than the few provided on the Corsham Relay Transmitter located in the grounds of Corsham School. The Gray-Hoverman is a fantastic DTV antenna design that is easily made in less than an hour with materials around the house. Two elementary school kids show how easy and fun! it is to learn a little about radio by making a DTV antenna at home. Learning through Making! Naomi and Noah Miller make a new antenna for their grandmother to replace a store-bought antenna that wasn't working so well. The project demonstrates how a simple antenna project can be a vehicle for learning alot about the basics of wireless engineering through discussions of the kinds of problems some viewers have faced transitioning to DTV. In a companion video, Naomi and Noah's dad talk about some of the engineering basics that help us understand how to solve some of Grandma's DTV reception problems. Projects like this one can introduce otherwise daunting technical discussions in a simple and easy to understand way.
A slight upgrade from yesterday, you can see I've added 2 more elements and moved it to the side to not put as much stress on the coax balun connection - I should really fix that so it's more stationary. So far, the reception is better, but could be better still. Next up will be, of course, 2 more elements. Stay tuned!
This is a [H]DTV antenna that I've started to make, based off of some of the other designs here on youtube. I would have preferred to use PVC, but I don't currently have it available. At another time, I will upgrade it so you can see the difference. In the meantime, I will show you the differences between having various elements on the antenna, up to and including having all of the elements attached in future parts. How to make a free DTV antenna.
I bought an eBay antenna based on the unusual photo. I was disappointed at first, as I didn't want to buy an antenna with so few elements on it. The full review can be found at www.dtvusaforum.com in one of the posts there. Works great, mounted on a CD spindle on top of the TV. Would work better in the attic. Sure it's advertised as a "rotating antenna" but because of the rotor motor used, it doesn't always work. Reception worked great. Without the rotor ability, however, it's stuck as a directional antenna. If they changed the gear system of the motor, then it would be a little more reliable.
