On Thursday, August 6th, the Duke Energy Convention Center hosted an event to showcase Cincinnati as a premier destination for national conventions, trade shows, regional meetings, and other events. The theme of the event was Experience the Big Bang in Cincinnati and was attended by more than 300 meeting professionals. The event featured a panel discussion with leaders from Cincinnatis hospitality community that included Duke Energy Convention Center General Manager Ric Booth and representatives from Ovations Food Service, the Cincinnati USA Convention and Visitors Bureau, Accent on Cincinnati, the George Fern Company, Prestige Audio Visual, and many of Cincinnatis first class attractions. This open forum gave attendees a chance to ask questions and allowed the panel to showcase the unity and wide range of activities that are only available in Cincinnati. The event concluded with a reception in the Duke Energy Convention Centers Grand Ballroom where Cincinnatis hospitality partners were able to network directly with potential customers.
On August 5, 2009, Cincinnati City Manager Milton Dohoney announced the planned layoffs of 138 police officers in Cincinnati. Mayor Mark Mallory refused to allow questions or comments on the issue knowing that the next Council meting was over a month away. Council members Ghiz and Monzel called a special meeting for August 6, 2009 in order to allow for the public comment that Mallory tyrannically quashed. This is the press conference the local GOP held in support of the police officers.

It's called self-healing because the equipment reroutes power automatically when there is trouble to reduce the number of customers affected by power outages.
