See this TripWow and more at tripwow.tripadvisor.com Pleasant Day in Durban "We had a full day in Durban, and I started it by watching the sun rise over the Indian Ocean, clicking a few photos from our 5th floor room. At 7 am I headed out to run along the waterfront, joining hundreds of locals out for a morning jog or walk. I carried my Canon with the small lens, and took lots of good photos of the hotel high rises lining the coast. It was a beautiful morning, probably around high 50sF and the sunshine was greatly appreciated by everyone in the group. I had only visited Durban once before, 17 years earlier in 1992, and I sure didn't remember enjoying it so much as I did this time. We enjoyed an excellent breakfast with an omelet made to order and a fresh waffle. I then went downstairs to the Cascades room to set up for class, glad that our 4th bag had been delivered to our room at 6 am with quizzes inside. I gave the first 2 quizzes for Geography 5, and most of the group did fine. I lectured on Southern African countries (Lesotho, Swaziland, Zimbabwe, Namibia, and Botswana) and then gave my final lecture for Geography 1. It felt good to be almost finished with my lectures. A lot of people in the group dropped off their laundry at a place just 4 or 5 minutes walk from the hotel while I took Sophia across the street to play on the beach a little. Our bus left at 12:30 for a ...

See this TripWow and more at tripwow.tripadvisor.com Week Four - Wild Coast, Lesotho and Durban "Day 22 - Tuesday 16 September 2003 Up early to catch Baz Bus to Cinsta at the start of the Wild Coast. Getting used to packing quickly and getting on our way. Arrived at Buccaneers Hostel around midday and checked into our private lodge overlooking the lagoon and the beach. Due to heavy rains we had to wade through the lagoon as the path was underwater to get to the shops on the other side of the lagoon to stock up on necessities of wine, beer and crisps. Buccaneers best hostel so far. Free activities every afternoon at 4pm with free wine. Today was a booze cruise up the lagoon. Twenty six guests turned up. So two shuttle trips were needed to ferry guests to dry spot for wine drinking and chatting. Soon demolished wine boxes and boat had to go back for more, with us on board. Back to hostel at 8pm for gorgeous dinner of lasagne round communal table with new friend Tracy from Perth. Afterwards into bar for late drinks and music. Day 23 - Wednesday 17 September 2003. Up early to go horse riding along the beach but cancelled so went canoeing on lagoon in double canoe instead. Nicola rubbish, Peter exhausted by time we struggled back to camp. Decided to head on to Lesotho next day. Lesotho has the highest low point of any country in Africa. Phoned Avis and booked 4x4 jeep for rough ...

Wynand and Karen had their wedding at the beautiful Ithala Game Reserve in KZN. What a stunning venue. As the couple live in Auz, we were only able to meet for the first time when we arrived at the venue on Friday night. We joined them and the rest of the guests for a Boma Dinner which gave us a chance to meet the couple and the rest of the wedding party before their big day. Saturday's weather turned out to be perfect and the settings of the wedding looked awesome. The grooms father married Wynand and Karen on the deck outside overlooking a dam and the reserve. This is a highlight of their day, their vows, their emotions and their beautiful setting. Filmed in HD on Canon XH A1s; Sony Z5; Canon 7D; Canon 24-70L; Canon 70-300IS

See this TripWow and more at tripwow.tripadvisor.com INANDA DAM "(Chanelle) Tammy and I awoke bright and early at 7:30am - well, considering that we had spent the previous evening out together it was pretty early - in order to make the most of yet another beautiful day in sunny South Africa. Craig and Jared were already down at Garvies beach on the Bluff, so we headed out in Tammy's car in hot pursuit of some golden sand. Because it was a public (Bank) holiday weekend we decided to avoid the crowds of Brighton and Anstey's beach and stick with the lesser known Garvies beach. (Craig) Well into the final days of our holiday, Jared and I woke up early and went down to Garvies Beach. The surf was big and clean, but watching three locals paddle out and get dealt along the shallow bank was enough for me realise that I certainly was not anywhere near fit enough to venture out into the inviting blue waters. The tide was going out, once again exposing shallow rock pools. There were a number of people on the usually quiet beach and it did not take Jared long to develop a friendship with one of the other kids on the beach. Together they bounded in and out of the warm water of the rock pools lost in their own world of make believe. The little boy was from Canada and according to his mom was so fascinated with the soft sand on our beaches, the first thing he did when introduced to a ...

See this TripWow and more at tripwow.tripadvisor.com Dragon Mountain "Now back in South Africa, and adjusting slowly to not being herded from one place to the next on the truck. Suddenly having to make decisions for myself was quite a shock to the system! I flew into Jo'Burg, and then headed straight out again (a very sensible choice) to Durban (not necessarily so much safer), and then out of there the next morning to the tranquility of the Drakensberg. This is a range of mountains which runs along the border with the little country of Lesotho which is totally surrounded by South Africa. We set off from Durban early in the morning, and arrived at our overnight stop near Underberg, in the Southern Drakensberg about lunchtime. The scenery on the way through was amazing, although the weather was a bit overcast, so it wasn't as dramatic as it could have been. Rolling green hills in the foreground, and then craggy mountains at the back, turned blue from the clouds and the distance. Very mystical! Our first adventure was a 2 hour horse trail in the hills... Having ridden only a few times, and always been terrified if I got above a trot, I wasn't overly convinced about the whole idea. But in fact it was amazing. The fear just disappeared, and riding in that amazing scenery felt so peaceful. The horse I had didn't spend the entire ride fighting me, which probably helped, and we even ...

With over 1700 miles of Indian and Atlantic Ocean coastline, South Africa's surf potential may never be fully tapped. Given prevailing surf and weather patterns, WaterWays focuses on the region from J-Bay on the Southeast tip up the East cost into Mozambique. The common thread running through this entire region is all of it is buffeted by swell from distant storms deep in the Southern Oceans.
Durban's many beaches are ideal for swimming, tanning, surfing, people-watching and long strolls on the sand. Andrew: "We must admit, Durban is the perfect place for a beach holiday. North and South beach are wonderful swimming beaches, warm clear water with lifeguards and shark nets. Our hosts treated us to a beach braai and while our fire was being prepared, Hannah and I took a sunset stroll along the beach. Barbequing, or 'braaing' as it's known here, has been an education. The warm water and weather, friendly local people and the sound of drumming made us feel so welcome and comfortable. There we were, around the fire, beating the drums, under the starriest sky I've ever seen... highly memorable."

As part of the FIFA Master alumni gathering in Durban, South Africa in June 2010, we all attended the Brazil vs. Portugal match at the incredible new stadium built in Durban. Despite a relatively poor match, the atmosphere was great, the weather was warm and as you can see everybody was having fun.

World Cup 2010: Germany's hotshots clip Argentina wings There is flair within the framework of Joachim Löw's well-organised Germany. A quality usually witnessed in the clever touches and movement of Mesut Özil but here seen thrillingly and relentlessly out wide with Thomas Müller and Lukas Podolski. Bastian Schweinsteiger was man of an extraordinary match in Cape Town on Saturday, driving through the middle time and again, causing constant problems for Argentina but the space was created by the clever stretching exercise conducted by Müller and Podolski. Gabby Heinze was constantly outrun by Müller. Podolski so tormented Nicolás Otamendi that when Diego Maradona removed his right-back midway through the second half it almost appeared an act of mercy. "I told my young players they were faster than them and, if you keep them under pressure, players like Heinze would struggle,'' said Löw. "We did that and took their defence apart completely. Like Müller. The one sadness for the Germans was that Müller's booking for a handball rules him out of the semi-final in Durban. "The fact we won't have Müller is a serious blow,'' added Löw. Being that I was staying out of Durban proper, tended to stay at this beautiful B&B ("Dolphin Point") - but with imited time wanted to get a more rounded experience of the cup as hosted in Durban. Thus I was missing the "Fan Fest" where they show matches on a large screen, outdoors on the beach, and everyone just shows up to watch and mill around. Well, this is what I did for the England v Germany match. Only thing is that the weather was somewhat overcast so that may have stopped some from attending. But I decided to hit it, and had a smashing time, as I got fairly smashed in the process. Beers were about $2 USD each which was reasonable. I wound up having about 5, which, as anyone who knows me will testify, is a bit beyond my limit. But this was my night out on the town. Enjoyed the game although the refereeing was abysimal, disallowing England the tying goal and therefore changing the outcome of the game - dispicable - shame on you FIFA!!!!
This was one of the top times in South Africa as Mussa properly highlighted during that moment. Casey Grant showed the way as the seeded surfers in the Billabong Juniors Series dominated proceedings on Day 2, producing an outstanding display of new school, innovative surfing in the overhead waves and variable weather conditions at Victoria Bay. The top seed for the Grade 2, R75 000 Pro Junior mens division, Grant employed his full repertoire of fins-free manoeuvres to post scores of 7.5 and 8.0 out of 10 to leave his opponents in the four-man heat scrambling for second place and a spot in the last 16. The 20-year-old from Scottburgh, who won the first event of the Billabong Junior Series at his home beach at Easter and also leads the 2009 ASP Africa Pro Junior ratings, remains on track for a slew of honours, including an invitation to the Billabong ASP World Junior Championships in Australia in January, if he can repeat his opening showing. However, it wont be easy as the likes of second seed Klee Strachan (Winkelspruit), Mossel Bay local Shaun Joubert, the Kommetjie trio of Matt Bromley, Brendon Gibbens and Michael February along with Chad du Toit (Durban) and Kyle Beach (Queensburgh) all delivered heat-winning performances in the rippable waves. Bertie Stuurman (Jeffreys Bay) and Shawn Dennis (Durban) were the only two qualifiers from Day 1 to force their way into the next round while wildcard Remi Peterson (JBay) threw sheets of spray on his way to joining them.
goodnews.ws Pigeon beats Telkom. Cape Town - Winston, a homing pigeon, has made history by beating a Telkom ADSL line in delivering 4GB of data from Howick to Hillcrest, outside Durban in just 2 hours 6 minutes and 57 seconds, whereas the ADSL download was "still just under four percent complete" at 11:45. South Africa's most famous pigeon, left Howick just after 10:00 on Wednesday morning and flew a distance of around 70km to deliver a data card (strapped to his leg) to financial services company The Unlimited at its head office in Hillcrest. Winston easily beat the ADSL line, despite giving it a 26 minute head start, while stretching his wings and waiting for the company data to be downloaded onto the memory card. A confident Winston flew straight to his home in Gillits, outside Hillcrest, from where he caught a short car ride to reach the Hillcrest head office. Homing pigeons have a natural ability to find their way home from any point of departure. Winston enjoyed huge support with messages from fans on his Facebook profile and constant tweets on his Twitter feed. He himself also twittered several times with comments like "flying weather cloudy and cool, feeling good, no major problems to report... Hillcrest traffic is a worry". Right from the start, the general consensus was that Winston would beat Telkom. Cyber Stone Age. South Africans have long lamented the country's slow internet connections and limited bandwidth.
