Nevada Senator Harry Reid continued his efforts today to end the unfair practice of withholding retirement benefits for disabled veterans. Reid has introduced a provision to a jobs bill in the Senate that provides an additional two years of concurrent receipt of disability and retirement benefits for disabled veterans. "After bravely serving your country, you deserve to receive the benefits you were promised once you retire," said Reid. "This bill addresses this issue once and for all."

2010Unemployment Extension -- 99ers Appeal for an Executive Order www.associatedcontent.com Attention all Unemployed Americans who need help: Phase III begins Monday "American unemployed without benefits NEED a Town Hall with YOU Mr. President." joblessunite.yolasite.com The unemployed have been at job centers everyday throughout Massachusetts looking for work. Officials at JobNet's three Boston offices said they serve about 20000 clients a year. About one-third of them are about to run out of jobless benefit, and desperately need Congress to approve an extension. "Those people need to have a lifeline. That's essentially what these extended benefits could mean to people," said Rosemary Alexander, executive director of one of JobNet's offices.
05/31/10 The House approved a bill to renew extended unemployment benefits, but the Senate will be on recess until June 7.
Extend Unemployment benefits...Good or Bad idea?
The Long Term Unemployed (the 99-ers as they are called) desperately NEED Washington to add a Tier 5 to Survive through the end of 2010 FOR ALL STATES!!! Many states did not qualify for the 6 week Tier 4 and those long term jobless have been out of benefits for nearly 2 months. Most of the 99-ers either exhausted all available benefits in March or will in April. Either way not one bill currently in the House or Senate adds additional weeks of benefits for those that need them most. THE LONG TERM UNEMPLOYED!!! LONG TERM UNEMPLOYED NOT COVERED BY RECENT PASSAGE OF HR 4213 BY SENATE ON MARCH 10, 2010 -- Those that have been laid off longer than a year and a half DO NOT QUALIFY under HR 4213. Millions again without benefits. -- The news media is under the impression that those people that were laid off as early as 2007 (known as long term unemployed) will receive extended benefits with the recent passage by the Senate of HR 4213, which will extend benefits to the end of the year. NOT SO. What this bill does is extend some of the deadlines so that people who were laid off later in 2009 and into 2010 can still qualify for the extra unemployment benefits provided in last year's stimulus package. But it does NOT help the millions of unemployed who have exhausted all tiers of benefits to date.
EASTERN IDAHO - Late Thursday night, President Barack Obama signed an $18 billion dollar bill to extend unemployment benefits for another two months. Will this help the unemployed here in Eastern Idaho? Yes and no. It doesn't change the amount of money you can get from unemployed benefits. But it does change how long you have to qualify. "I'm hoping to get a job," said unemployed Derek Moore. "Not so good right now," said unemployed Mike Whitman. You've heard of the Great Depression, well, the Idaho Department of Labor says this is the "Great Recession." "This has been the Great Recession. It really has. It's been a really difficult time for a lot of people," said Mike Whitman, a manager at the Department of Labor. Before the recession, most people wouldn't go 12 weeks without work. But because that number has climbed so high, they've extended those benefits. "We've had some tremendous people with degrees with many years of training that have been affected in this recession. Those individuals it does affect their self esteem when they normally go back to work within 12 weeks and some have gone almost 2 years without returning to work," said Whitman. And Obama's signature on a bill that extends unemployment benefits for two months wasn't much of a cheer-me-up to the jobless here. "I don't see how things are going to pickup anytime soon," said Moore. "It's rough. It's real tough finding a job right now," said Whitman. "What sort of job are you looking for?" I asked Moore ...
The Drudge Report Extended unemployment benefits will temporarily expire for thousands of Americans on Monday because the Senate went on its spring recess without approving a one-month deadline extension.

UNEMPLOYMENT EXTENSIONS, UNEMPLOYMENT TALK, THOUGHTS ON UNEMPLOYMENT Washington abandoned millions of long term unemployed by failing to include any help in their "so called" unemployment extension in HR 4213 even though the Senate sold this in the media as "extending vital emergency benefits through the end of this year". Truth is they lied. ENOUGH of the little 6 week extensions for only a few states. The economy will not be fixed in 6 weeks. The long term unemployed in all 50 states need Congress to extend the weekly benefits through the end of 2010 and hopefully do it before their Spring Vacation. We cannot wait.

Jobless benefits extended another month
Republican Senator from Kentucky, Jim Bunning, blocked unemployment benefits from clearing the senate last week. The legislation, which had already passed the house, would have extended emergency unemployment benefits for an additional month. Without action, the National Employment Law Project, an advocacy organization for lower-paid workers, is estimating that nearly 1.2 million jobless workers will lose benefits by the end of March. Democrats oppose Bunning's view that leftover funds from the 2008 stimulus package should be used to pay for the bill. Arizona Republican, Senator Jon Kyl, said on Fox News Sunday that despite his agreement with his colleague Senator Bunning that QUOTE "it ought to be paid for", he says the legislation will ultimately pass because it is a temporary extension of benefits, versus a lasting piece of legislation. On the docket this week - the senate will look at 31 billion dollars in corporate tax breaks and the extension of added benefits for the jobless. The house will be moving forward with the 15 billion dollar jobs bill passed by the senate last week. The US jobless rate currently stands at 9.7 percent.
From C-SPAN2 coverage of the Senate floor 3/2/10, Senator Jim Bunning (R-KY) discusses his blocking the extension of unemployment benefits and health insurance subsidies for the jobless. Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) responds to Bunning.
Congress has not yet voted to continue the extended benefits paid for by the federal government. Those benefits, which go beyond the 26 weeks provided by the state, to a total of 99 weeks, expire Saturday.
Leaders in the US Senate are looking to pass a 15- or 30-day extension of federal unemployment benefits this week.

On September 22, Congressman Geoff Davis spoke on the House floor in support of HR 3548, the Unemployment Compensation Extension Act. HR 3548 was introduced on September 10, 2009 by Congressman Jim McDermott [WA-7]. The Act would provide up to three additional months of Federal extended unemployment benefits to long-term unemployed individuals in States where the unemployment rate is 8.5 percent or higher. During his speech, Congressman Davis urged an increased focus on job creation, stating, "What Americans really want is jobs, not handouts. Even as we help those in places where jobs are the hardest to find, promoting job growth should be our number one priority."
First it was at 26 weeks, then it was extended to 79 weeks. Now a new bill would allow some states to offer up to 92 weeks of unemployment benefits.

Fellow Americans, Early next month congress will reconvene and consider 2 bills on extending unemployment benefits for those who are still unemployed: 1. Representative Jim McDermott has introduced the Emergency Unemployment Compensation Act of 2009, HR 3404. The bill would continue important ARRA benefits including the $25 per week federal additional compensation, full federal sharing for EB benefits, and the existing 33 weeks of EUC, through December 31, 2010 and phasing out by June 2011. In addition, the bill would provide 13 weeks of "further additional emergency unemployment compensation" to those states with an unemployment rate above 9.5%. 2. Senator Jack Reed introduced a similar package in the Senate (S. 1647) would provide such benefits to states with a three months average unemployment rate of 8.5%. Hundreds of thousands of unemployed Americans will be left out because their state doesnt have a current unemployment rate of 9.5% or their states 3 month average is less than 8.5%. Does that mean that they need relief less than other unemployed individuals in other states with higher unemployment? No. Unemployed is unemployed no matter how many of your neighbors have jobs. I am urging everyone to get off your duffs and do something to ensure that nobody is left out when congress extends unemployment benefits next month. Q: What can you do? A: Contact your elected officials and let them know that all unemployed Americans need relief no matter what the state ...

www.EmploymentCrossing.com Unemployed Delawareans now qualify for seven extra weeks of unemployment benefits, thanks to the extension of a federal unemployment program, Governor Ruth Ann Minner has announced. The unemployment insurance extension is the second announced in the past four months, and brings total unemployment benefits eligibility to 46 weeks. The move will affect 5000 Delawareans who are either receiving unemployment benefits or whose benefits recently have run out. The extension comes as a relief while unemployment numbers continue to grow. In September, Delaware reported a 4.8 percent unemployment number that rose in October to 5.4 percent. The benefits may also help the states economy, as people have funds to pump into businesses and continue to fuel other sectors. President George W. Bush signed legislation in July, that extended benefits by 13 weeks for people who have filed unemployment claims since May 7, 2006. Bush signed the second, seven-week extension Friday in a move meant to assist citizens in the troubling economy.
