Mike Kara Presents... Community Focus/ Community Fun www.mikekara.com Chicagoland Area Cable Television Program Brookfield Zoo http Great Bear Wilderness Party For The Planet Air Dates - Internet - 5/06/10 Cable - June 2010 Well, one more segment for June. But lets travel back actually not too far into the past to May 2010. On Sunday May 2, 2010 Brookfield Zoo in Brookfield, Illinois was having several awesome events. On this day members of Brookfield Zoo had a chance to get a sneak peak of a brand new attraction at Brookfield Zoo called The Great Bear Wilderness. This exhibit featured animals of North America and included several types of bears including Grizzley Bears, Polar Bears, etc as well as Bison. The exhibit featured a whole bunch of interactive activities for kids and adults alike. Besides guests have the chance to see the bears, etc, guests had the chance to take part in a variety of activities, including having the chance to see how they compare in height and size. The exhibit served almost as museum with much information to be had. Kids and adults were able to decide how much they want to take away from this attraction. Brookfield Zoo has always been great as providing valuable information on the animals to their guests, rather than saying, ok heres the animals - knock yourself out. This exhibit was actually opening to the public Saturday May 8, 2010, but members had a chance to get a sneak peek on this day, as well as May 3, 4, and 5 2010. Also on this day ...

Foreign Affairs Minister Seyoum Mesfin said it needs urgency to address the issue of climate change as the environment is not a separate sector from other human activities like health, population and economic development. A panel discussion was held in connection with the Second Earth Day Celebration here Thursday. Addressing the panel the minister said the security and stability of each nation and all people are in critical situations. He said changes in agro-ecological conditions adversely affect food production; yields from rain-fed agriculture in some African countries may drop by 50 percent ten years from now. Seyoum said the prevalence of health threats like malaria, diarrhea, asthma and stroke could increase due to raise in temperature. Ethiopia has joined the global environment movement as part of the solutions, the minister said. Agriculture and Rural Development State Minister Dr. Abera Deressa on his part said the government has been taking several initiatives pre and post Copenhagen, among others, mass awareness and climate hearings. The Climate Change Forum Ethiopia has been established and engaged in a number of initiatives geared towards building collective capacity to adopt and mitigate climate change. Earth Day is celebrating 40 years of worldwide awareness for year 2010. Myself and everyone at Totally Costumes (www.totallycostumes.com) is excited for the opportunity to build a healthy, prosperous, clean energy economy now and for the future. While I think it would be entertaining to overload you with figures and facts that will try to bribe you into recycling with the idea that our world might come to an end, I decided it would be MUCH more fun to create a video full of music, earth day themed costumes and recycling fun facts. I am optimistic that our Earth Day costume video will bring awareness to the future of our planet. I know I will work on "going green" in my day to day activities in hopes to help becoming apart of preserving our generation's future. Of course, who says wearing costumes, green costume accessories and publicly walking down the street to shooting sites isn't just as much fun! I highly encourage all of you to get some green costume accessories for APRIL 22ND, 2010 and bring Earth Day awareness to your town or neighborhood. I know I had plenty of looks and smiles as I walked from site to site waving to those that went past. 5 Easy Ways to Help Our Planet 1. Bring awareness by wearing green accessories or earth day costumes in your town and display signs with recycling fun facts. 2. Recycle in your own home by placing a 2nd bin for recyclable materials such as aluminum cans, plastic bags, milk cartons and plastic / glass bottles. Use a reusable water ...

On 22 April 1970, Earth Day marked the beginning of the modern environmental movement. Approximately 20 million Americans participated. Hayes and his staff organized massive coast-to-coast rallies. Thousands of colleges and universities organized protests against the deterioration of the environment. Groups that had been fighting against oil spills, polluting factories and power plants, raw sewage, toxic dumps, pesticides, freeways, the loss of wilderness, and the extinction of wildlife suddenly realized they shared common values. Mobilizing 200 million people in 141 countries and lifting the status of environmental issues onto the world stage, Earth Day on April 22 in 1990 gave a huge boost to recycling efforts worldwide and helped pave the way for the 1992 United Nations Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro. As the millennium approached, Hayes agreed to spearhead another campaign, this time focusing on global warming and pushing for clean energy. The April 22 Earth Day in 2000 combined the big-picture feistiness of the first Earth Day with the international grassroots activism of Earth Day 1990. For 2000, Earth Day had the Internet to help link activists around the world. By the time April 22 came around, 5000 environmental groups around the world were on board, reaching out to hundreds of millions of people in a record 184 countries. Events varied: A talking drum chain traveled from village to village in Gabon, Africa, for example, while hundreds of thousands of people ...
