We covered five days of wedding festivities starting on April 20, 2011 for Anshita and Jitin Dhawan. The bride is from Southern California, and the groom is from the UK. They hired us to shoot and create a highlight reel for the first three days to be shown on the fourth day at the Trump National Golf Course in the evening, after their Hindu ceremony. The first day was the Mehndi event, held at the bride's family's home in Porter Ranch. The mehndi is traditionally held for the bride and her female guest to receive a henna design on their hands. The bride's henna is the most detailed and elaborate, with intricate designs on her hands and feet. The second day was the Shagun Ceremony, held in Beverly Hills at Gaylord India restaurant. The Shagun is a traditional Punjabi engagement ceremony. The bride and her family are welcomed by the groom's family, the groom receives tikka from the bride's father, the bride is presented with a red chunni and gold jewelry, and the couple exchange wedding rings. The evening ends perfectly with Jago, a Punjabi culture folk dance by the aunties. The third day was the Sangeet, held in Marina Del Rey at the Marriot. The sangeet began with family singing, live music performed by Nauzad, friends and family performing skits and plenty of great bhangra dancing throughout the evening! A very elaborate floral henna design... My henna cone was giving me trouble, but I managed to get the design done. Enjoy and practice !
Long time no see! :) Finally back with some new henna designs. It started as a simple diagonal floral design, from around the wrist, to the index finger, but as it usually happens to me, it developed into something, I think, much more elaborate. Unfortunately I didn't draw similar designs always with the same pattern, but oh well: one learns from it's own mistakes, right? Well, hope you enjoy it! The original filming time was 35 minutes. After cutting out the parts where I change the "diaper" on my runny henna cone (month and a half old...) the video time reduced to 22 minutes or so. Then adding the 4x speed resulted the current, 4:12 video Music: Dance pe chance by Sunidhi Chauhan and Labh Janjua from the movie Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi
A very important festival in Rajasthan, Gangaur Festival is celebrated with much enthusiasm and joy. Exclusive to the state of Rajasthan, Gangaur Festival is celebrated nowhere else in India. This is one reason why it is held in high esteem in Rajasthan. The Gangaur Festival is dedicated to Goddess Parvati who is supposed to be the goddess of abundance. Young married girls keep fasts for their husbands and pray for their well-being. Even unmarried girls can keep fasts to get a good spouse. The Gangaur festival of Rajasthan is also celebrated to mark the end of winter and the onset of spring season. The Gangaur festival is celebrated in different styles in different parts of Rajasthan. The festival is celebrated with much fanfare and enthusiasm in all major cities of Rajasthan. Young girls dress up in their best clothes and look absolutely stunning. They make elaborate designs on their palms with henna, popularly known as "Mehndi". The first part of the celebration is to collect the ashes from the sacred Holi fire and put seeds of wheat and barley in it. They are carefully watered and when they germinate, they are taken to the temple and worshipped alongwith the idols of Gan and Gaur (Lord Shiva and Parvati). The festival is celebrated for a period of 18 days and young newly married girls are supposed to fast for 18 days, eating only one meal per day. The idols of Gan and Gaur are submerged in a pond or river on the last day of the festivity. Grand processions are then ...
A very elaborate henna design which can easily be done with a bit of practise. I would reccomend to try this design with a pencil first to get the flow of the design then use a cone. The design is a repeated process as you will see when you watch the video. If you don't succeed try, try and try again.

The Hindu wedding takes place inside a canopy called a mandap. The bride is sometimes painted in elaborate mendhi or henna designs covering her hands and feet before the ceremonies begin. The following ceremonies are meant to honor the couple's love and ensure the success of their marriage by invoking the blessings of various deities and joining the families in celebration.
