In July 2009, Saint Martin's Youth joined 38000 Lutherans in New Orleans for the ELCA National Youth Gathering "Jesus Justice Jazz." It was the biggest convention in New Orleans since Katrina and 12000 participants daily volunteered in and around the city.
www.desiringgod.org . Mark, we'd like to give you a chance to talk about Servetus with us. Sam Storms: We're assuming that everyone knows about Servetus. Maybe someone could explain what happened. 2. How should the inerrancy of Scripture function in the public realm for the Christian who believes in biblical reality and doesn't want to go too far in legislating morality? 3. Marvin, I know you talked deeply about issues of compassion. How would you help us as Christians to orient to world poverty, maybe in ways you weren't able to in your address? 4. Marvin, you said the upcoming WORLD magazine was going to be called "Trade not Aid." Where is the proper place for aid in ministering to the poor? John Piper: Marvin, can you clarify for us the difference between the prosperity gospel, which I'm assuming most of us would abominate, and saying from the Bible, "If you do this, you will prosper"? 5. Julius, there's been a lot of talk today about all the good deeds that Calvinism unleashes. You began your talk last night by talking about Calvin as pilgrim. Would you connect for us how Calvin as pilgrim relates to Calvin as world-changer? 6. We have four, at least, pastor-theologians on the panel who are in the pastorate and involved in academics/theology. What insights would you have for us on Calvin as a pastor-theologian? Sam Storms: I struggle at times to connect with Calvin as a pastor. I don't know any of the civic officials in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma like he knew the civic officials in his city. Doug Wilson: Remember that Geneva (the city Calvin ministered in) was a comparatively small town. 7. Mark, you talked about Calvin saying that everything is for the best. That's difficult enough to realize when someone sins against us. How do we appropriate that with regard to our own sin? Does our own sin work out for our best? If so, how do we appropriate that in the moment of temptation? John Piper: Romans 6. Should we sin that grace may abound? By no means 8. John, to close, on August 19, just over a month ago, a tornado hit this building (Minneapolis Convention Center) and Central Lutheran Church next door during a session of the ELCA annual convention where they were discussing their position on homosexuality. Both you and Marvin wrote about this. Would you explain to us the background of this event and how that relates to God's sovereignty?

Some theists superstitiously mythologize weather events, natural disasters, and other such occurrences, claiming that they are messages from their god. This video looks at one example of this odd practice, ie, the mythologizing of a tornado that hit the area where the Evangelical Lutheran Church in American was having its churchwide convention in Minneapolis on August 19, 2009. Apparently, there are people in the 21st century who have managed to convince themselves that a tornado in the American Midwest during a summer afternoon is a miraculous event. logosapologia has yet to approve my video response. Perhaps the facts and statistics set forth in it are just too much for him to deal with. Kicked out of the convention center, Lutheran pastor sets up shop outside as delegates are entering. This is a protest against the passage of all 4 sexuality statements by the ELCA. What business does the church have, in the first place, voting on God's word? This is no longer the church. It is an apostate harlot sent from the pit of hell. Every preacher worth his dime must publicly oppose this abomination, lest he face the wrath of almighty God. Listen to the warning and rebuke of Psalms 7, 26, and 29 being proclaimed to the deaf delegates. God has blinded their eyes and deadened their hearts, so they can neither see with their eyes, nor understand with their hearts, nor turn -- and I would heal them. -John 12:40
The church that Martin Luther preached at is very similar to the one in Minnesota. His quotes are:" In the end, we will remember not the words of our enemies, but the silence of our friends". The ELCA lost on the side of right by one vote. One vote would have given the percentage needed. "Sin is essentially, a departure from God."
Concordia Theological Seminary, with the Christian church throughout history, confesses the sanctity of marriage as a union between a man and a woman—Gods gift of marriage at creation is a beautiful and abiding blessing upon all of humanity. Similarly, we believe the living and healing voice of Jesus through His prophets and apostles—Sacred Scripture—when He calls us to fidelity in marriage and warns about the harmful and destructive impact upon human beings when adultery, promiscuity, or homosexuality are practiced. In departing from two thousand years of Christian teaching and practice as well as challenging the majority of present day Christians, the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) has exhibited sectarian behavior that saddens a large spectrum of the Christian community. We pray that the Lord will strengthen those who remain faithful to His healing Word and recall those who have so tragically abandoned that Word and its healing and absolving Truth.
