April 21, 2006 Beyond Environmentalism: Envisioning a Sustainable and Desirable Future Dr. Elinor Ostrom is the Arthur F. Bentley Professor of Political Science at Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana. She also is Co-Director of the Workshop in Political Theory and Policy Analysis, Part-Time Professor of Public and Environmental Affairs, and Co-Director for the Center for the Study of Institutions, Population, and Environmental Change (CIPEC). She is author Governing the Commons: The Evolution of Institutions for Collective Action (1990), Cambridge University Press.

Die Nobelpreisträgerin für Wirtschaftswissenschaften Professor Dr. Elinor Ostrom hielt am Mittwoch, 23. Juni 2010, einen Vortrag an der Frankfurt School of Finance & Management. Diesmal sprach Professor Ostrom über "Robust Property Rights Institutions to Manage Local and Global Commons". In ihrer Forschung beschäftigt sich Professor Ostrom mit dem Thema der Verteilung und Verwaltung von Allmendegütern. In ihrem Vortrag stellte die emphatische Wissenschaftlerin vor gut hundert Gästen eindrucksvoll dar, dass es keine universelle Verwaltungsstruktur für individuelle Öko- und Sozialsysteme gebe. Trotz dieser Erkenntnis sei in der Gesellschaft der Glaube an Universallösungen absolut manifestiert. Die Ergebnisse ihrer Forschungsarbeit entstanden aus jahrelanger Feldforschung. Professor Ostrom war wie auch im vergangenen Jahr einer Einladung von Professor Dr. Hartmut Kliemt gefolgt, der an der Frankfurt School eine Professur für Philosophie und Ökonomik inne hat. Die beiden Wissenschaftler arbeiten seit Jahrzehnten zusammen.

The Center for International Forestry Research (CIFOR) canvassed some of the worlds most influential thinkers on forests and climate change for their thoughts. For more insight into the REDD challenges join us at Forest Day 4 in Cancún, Mexico. This event will take place on 5 December 2010 alongside the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change 16th Conference of the Parties. Forest Day 4 aims to bring together a wide range of stakeholders and world leaders to discuss new challenges and issues arising from the implementation of REDD+ and adaptation schemes to alleviate climate change. Professor Elinor Ostrom specialises in political science at Indiana University. She was awarded the Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences in 2009, sharing it with Oliver E Williamson. She speaks about the need for different governance systems to protect the environment.
