Koen joined Nuclear Poetry during his recent trip to NYC from his home country of Belgium, where he works for the biggest theatre company of Flanders: Toneelhuis. He loves culture in all forms and has recently taken up contemporary dance. He also plays the piano and cello.Nuclear Poetry takes the audience into a 'literary bomb shelter' for a night of spoken word by candlelight with the message that everyone has a voice. It was formed as an experiment to get New School poetry students together to share their work for a night. People seemed to like it and the series was born. An amazing thing happened in the months that followed: people started coming and a strong community began to grow, and with it came a real sense of spirit filling the room during the shows. The event is now in its second year. Every show is different, often taking inspiration from current headlines and events. Readers for the night include writers of all ages and levels...professors, published writers, students and beginners. Some quiet, some loud, some traditional, some experimental. It's everyone's night. Please join us, bring an open heart and love for writing and let's make some magic. You can hear my wonderful new Christmas album at www.joolsscott.co.uk or http There's piano, cello, guitar, double bass, trumpet, lots of singing, cheer and jollity. "Jingle Bells", also known as "One Horse Open Sleigh", is one of the best known and commonly sung secular Christmas songs in the world. It was written by James Lord Pierpont (18221893) and copyrighted under the title 'One Horse Open Sleigh' on September 16, 1857. The song has been translated into many languages, was made in thanks giving by the composer. Dashing through the snow In a one horse open sleigh O'er the fields we go Laughing all the way Bells on bob taila[›] ring (Or Hear our voices ring) Making spirits bright What fun it is to laugh and sing (Or What fun it is to ride and sing) A sleighing song tonight |: Jingle bells, jingle bells, Jingle all the way; Oh! what fun [joy] it is to ride In a one-horse open sleigh.:| Music historian James Fuld notes that the "the word jingle in the title and opening phrase is apparently an imperative verb." However, it is commonly taken to mean a certain kind of bell. In the second verse the narrator takes a ride with a girl and loses control of the sleigh: A day or two ago I thought I'd take a ride And soon Miss Fanny Bright Was seated by my side, The horse was lean and lank Misfortune seemed his lot He got into a drifted bank And then we [we—we] got upsotb[›]. In the next verse he falls out of the sleigh and ...
