We discuss our favs from 2008. Wait a sec -- didn't we do this last year?!
Disaster Movie is a 2008 American parody film. It is written and directed by Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer, and stars Carmen Electra, Kim Kardashian, Matt Lanter, Nicole Parker, Crista Flanagan, and Vanessa Minnillo. In the year 10,001 B.C., a caveman (Will) runs away from a mammoth before getting in a fight with Wolf (Ike Barinholtz). He then encounters a saber-toothed, gasoline-drinking Amy Winehouse (Nicole Parker), who informs him that humans will become extinct on August 29, 2008 (which was the film's opening day) unless somebody returns a crystal skull to its altar. The film flash-forwards to the present, where Will (Matt Lanter), the protagonist, apparently dreamt the past sequence. He then finds out that his girlfriend, Amy (Vanessa Minnillo), is having an affair with Flavor Flav (Abe Spigner). Later that day, Will has a "Super Duper Sweet Sixteen" party at his house, despite the fact that he's 25. Guests include Juney (Crista Flanagan), Dr. Phil (John Di Domenico), an off-key Jessica Simpson (Parker), the kids from High School Musical, Justin Timberlake, Kanye West, and an underwear model (Nick Steele). Will notices that Amy's new beau is the model. Will's best friend Calvin (Gary "G-Thang" Johnson) attempts to curve a bullet around the room to stop Seth and McLover (Noah Harpster and Austin Scott) from stealing the alcohol, accidentally killing Dr. Phil, Anton Chigurh (Barinholtz), and the Beautiful Assassin (Carmen Electra) in the process. After the High School Musical-like number "Friends Forever" is performed, the lights go out as the room shakes and a bulletin on the radio claims that it is the end of the world. Will, Calvin, Lisa, and Juney go outside and find that Hannah Montana (Flanagan) has been crushed by a meteor and, even when caught between life and death, is still promoting her merchandise. After her wig falls off, they discover that she's actually Miley Cyrus. Cyrus replies, "Well, no shit, Sherlock. All I do is wear a wig and change my voice a little bit and those dumb kids can't tell the difference," and she finally dies. Also, a boy wakes up Hancock and tells him to go save the world (insulting him using profanity). Hancock tries to flee the city but hits his head on a streetlight and knocks himself out. Soon after, a mysterious mist begins to consume the street, and the group retreats to a garage for shelter. They meet the Sex and the City girls, who claim it's their hideout. Juney fights a man in drag similar to Carrie Bradshaw (Jason Boegh) for the garage Zohan-style and wins. After discussing global warming, Calvin says that he is cold and suggests they take their clothes off. Only the girls take their clothes off, and the guys stare in awe. Later, Will has a dream where he is a Jumper and accidentally gets stabbed by Prince Caspian's (Barinholtz) sword (Caspian identifies him as "the guy who ruined Star Wars"). After Will's dream, the gang leaves the garage and Lisa gets crushed by a meteor. Princess Giselle (Parker) climbs out of a manhole and gets hit by a taxi. Calvin catches her and she immediately falls in love with him. Juney guesses she's a princess thrown out of her kingdom by an evil witch, but Giselle reveals that she is, in fact, a "demented homeless chick who lives in the sewers" due to consuming "lots and lots and lots of mind-altering, enchanting drugs!"

Werner Herzog talking about filming Encounters at the end of the World in Antarctic. The Guardian interview London 26 Jan 09
Allow me to introduce you to Herzog's Penguin -- one of the stars in Werner Herzog's Oscar-nominated documentary, "Encounters at the End of the World." This little fellow is not a dancing puppet e.g. "Happy Feet" or some politically correct media muppet e.g. "March of the Penguins." Herzog's Penguin is an existentialist, in my humble opinion. What do you think? Is he consumed with angst? Does he feel that his life is without meaning? I highly recommend this film. You can stream it on Netflix right now!
Directed by Werner Herzog. UK release date 24 April 2009. Genre: Documentary. Syopsis IMDB): Werner Herzog takes his camera to Antarctica where we meet the odd men and women who have dedicated their lives to furthering the cause of science in treacherous conditions. A scientist studies neutrinos, which are everywhere, yet elusive; he likens them to spirits. A researcher's nighttime performance art includes contorting her body into a luggage bag. A survival guide teaches his students to survive white-out conditions by wearing cartoon-face buckets over their heads. Animal researchers milk mother seals as part of their study. Volcanologists offer advice on what to do when a volcano erupts. A pipefitter shows us the anomaly in his hands that he says are a sign he descended from Atzec royalty. A former Colorado banker drives what he has christened Ivan the Terra Bus. An underwater diver shows his colleagues DVDs of apocalyptic sci-fi films like Them! (1954). And -- though Herzog declares he's not "making another film about penguins" -- we meet a penguin researcher who answers the filmmaker's questions about homosexuality and insanity in his subjects. We also meet an individualist penguin, who breaks away from the other birds to run toward the mountains, facing certain death. Oscar Nominations 2009. Best Documentary Feature

For my last video of 2008, we go back to the first series of Kung Fu and the episode called "Sun and Cloud Shadow". In this clip Keye Luke as the wonderful Master Po delivers what must be his most profound line in the series, "Peace lies not in the world, but in the man who walks the Path." This reveals to us that those on the Path do not seek to obtain peace by changing the world, but rather to find peace within themselves. This is in contrast to the highly autocratic religions that would have us believe that peace can only be achieved by forcing others to change. Unfortunately it is inevitable that one on a path of peace will encounter those who don't share the same desire. To this Master Po advices Caine, "Seek a different Path". There is a story from ancient China that tells of an obstinate donkey that was blocking a busy and narrow lane. Whenever someone approached the donkey, it became unsettled and attempted to kick the passer by. Soon the busy thoroughfare was at a standstill. At that moment a sage known for his wisdom approached the bustling lane. All the people watched with anticipation, expecting the master to resolve the problem. Yet the great teacher surprised them all by simply opting to take a detour down an alternative lane. This ancient story is a fine example of avoiding contention by seeking an alternative path. The sage recognised his presence would do nothing but add to the donkey's already very stressed demeanour. However, if the people were to take the master's lead and also seek a different path, the donkey would most likely calm down and easily be led away. Unfortunately taking a different path isn't always possible and so we hear young Caine ask, "What if at each turn appears those who would be violent and do not love peace?" To this the Shaolin Master responds by telling Caine one must develop compassion and wisdom equally. But how can this help us overcome an aggressive adversary? Those on the Path are at liberty to defend themselves if no other peaceful way is viable. However, this must always be done without anger or malice. The goal should be to end the conflict and nothing more. In chapter 30 of the Tao Te Ching, Lao Tzu wrote, "Just do what needs to be done. Never take advantage of power." This advice isn't only intended for martial arts or the battle field. In our day to day lives we often encounter very difficult and aggressive people. Nevertheless the sagely advice of seeking a different path applies as much today as it did in bygone centuries. Yet sometimes seeking another path isn't always feasible and one has no other choice but to stand their ground and resist. But too often a victim is lured into sinking to the same level as the aggressor and there begins a very dangerous game of tit-for-tat. If the authorities become involved, it will be very difficult for them to distinguish the perpetrator from the victim as both have become equally malevolent. Most jurisdictions have legislation to protect the rights of the individual and those in the most vulnerable positions. Therefore the best way to resolve a conflict is by always maintaining the highest moral standards and looking to resolve any contention in the most amicable way possible. If this fails you will then be in an excellent position to involve the appropriate authorities to enforce a resolution. In the meantime there is a basic principle used in the martial art of Kung Fu that can be applied just as well in the modern world of psychological combat. The basis of the Shaolin martial art is to allow your opponent's own actions to bring about there own downfall. Nevertheless, this requires one to use wisdom and compassion. Wisdom is required for one to be able to stay calm and retain one's benevolent nature. Anger will only serve to cloud one's judgement and may result in actions that weaken one's position in the eyes of an adjudicator. Compassion is required to prevent one from becoming cruel, revengeful or seeking ascendancy. Malevolence not only weakens one's position in the eyes of others, but will more than likely initiate an escalating cycle of retribution. Although it may be very difficult initially, only compassion for a former adversary can serve as a good foundation for a path of peace and surely this is our ultimate goal? I'll be having a short break from uploading videos onto Youtube while I pursue a few of my other projects, such as my website at: www.yinyangnature.com I hope you will pay me a visit here sometime. Until I return, I wish you and the ones you love a peaceful 2009. As always, my unconditional and kindest regards Bobba G'day Karma girl!
Go to the limits of human experience...and beyond. From the fringes of the galaxy to our own backyards, the UFO FILES searches for evidence of life beyond our world. Tracing the long, convoluted history of UFO encounters and research, this unique series opens new windows into the controversial field. A mysterious, stark terrain, 90 miles north of Las Vegas, goes by many names: The Box, Paradise Ranch, Groom Lake, Watertown Strip, and Dreamland. But most refer to the region as Area 51. Since the late 1950s, an array of UFO sightings has been reported above its skies. In 1989, revelations of Las Vegas resident Bob Lazar brought Area 51 to national attention. Lazar claimed to possess amazing inside information, but he wasn't the first to state that something strange was going on. Those who discount Lazar's theories think the government kept its activities from the general public for a more plausible reason. The base, built at the Cold War's height, housed testing of cutting-edge aviation technology. The cloak of secrecy was to keep the Soviet Union in the dark, not the American public, and experts expostulate that the government perpetuated these theories to disguise its real activities.

Shiver my timbers, pieces of eight, walk the plank you scurvy ridden sea dog..... We all love a good pirate story dont we? Well this PSP pirate based adventure is a mixed bag, it offers fairly good graphics, with nice enviroments and decent character animations, something you would expect from a disney titled movie game. The sound and music are capable, they are pretty much what you'd expect from a pirate adventure game. The cockney voices used to voice over for some of the pirates lines are pretty stupid but equally funny. Gameplay is the games weakness, mainly due to lack of variety in the game, theirs only so much hack n slashing you can do before repetitive encounters drive you potty. The game has puzzle elements thrown in occassionally but they are fairly basic and dont take much thought. The controls are a simple affair and wont stretch anyone to much, they are responsive enough to follow the adventure. I'd never class this pirate yarn as a bad game, it's just lacking that something to keep you hooked and intrested, the graphics help but the gameplay needed more bite, it's all average adventuring, pirates are supposed to be exciting afterall. It wont shiver your tibers to much, I'd give it 6.7 pieces of eight and not a penny more! lol 6.7/10 Rated.
