A Movement of Concern is an excerpt from my short film "Celebrating the Life and Times of Irving Sarnoff", which can be seen in its entirety at www.vimeo.com This section focuses on various Vietnam war protests in Southern California in the 1960s. About Irving Sarnoff: Irv is a lifelong activist who has campaigned openly for human rights, civil rights, world peace and a host of environmental concerns. Irv was an organizer of the 1967 Century City anti-war demonstration in which more than 10000 demonstrators took to the streets outside of the Century Plaza Hotel where then President Lyndon Johnson was attending a fundraising dinner. Outspoken in his opposition to a number of government policies, Irv found himself under investigation by the FBI and the House Committee on Unamerican Activities. Irv founded, co-founded or has been active in the leadership of a number of organizations including the Mississippi Assistance Project, the San Gabriel Valley Council on Discrimination, the Peace Action Council and Alliance for Survival, to name only a few. Irv conceptualized and was a lead organizer of the 1982 "Peace Sunday" concert at the Pasadena Rose Bowl and the "Survival Sunday" concerts of the mid-80s. In 1985, Irv founded the organization Friends of the United Nations and dedicated himself to educating people around the world about the importance of the United Nations. This video is not inclusive of all of Irv's activities and achievements, but simply touches on some of the ...
Senator Al Franken (D-Minnesota) gave this opening statement before the Senate Judiciary Committee hearings on Supreme Court nominee Elena Kagan. Every Senator who has spoken before me has sworn to "support and defend the Constitution of the United States." And so have I. There are few things that we do that are more important to fulfilling that oath than making sure that the Justices of the United States Supreme Court are brilliant, humane, and just individuals. But these hearings are also a learning experience for Minnesotans and all Americans watching at home. Before I joined the Senate, I watched at least part of every Supreme Court confirmation hearing that was televised. And I think part of my job here is to continue that learning experience for the American people. Now, last year, I used my time during these hearings to highlight what I think is one of the most serious threats to our Constitution and to the rights it guarantees the American people: the activism of the Roberts Court. I noted that for years, conservatives running for the Senate have made it almost an article of faith that they won't vote for activist judges who make law from the bench. And when asked to name a model justice, they would often cite Justice Thomas, who I noted has voted to overturn more federal laws than Justices Stevens and Breyer combined. In recent cycles, they would name Chief Justice Roberts. Well, I think we established very convincingly during the Sotomayor hearings that there is ...

www.archive.org --- "Report from IRON MOUNTAIN" ia341229.us.archive.org --- is a secret study by 15 reseachers ordered by JFK in 1961 , Lyndon Johnsen received the report in 1966, and kept it silent as bottom drawer material. In 1967 one of the researchers who called himself "John Doe" published it, and the media denounced it as a Hoax.... BUT...Never before has a Hoax, "REPORT FROM IRON MOUNTAIN ON THE POSSIBILITYAND DESIRABILITY OF PEACE", developed into a accurate description of the factual plans which are layed out before us, day by day. Iron Mountain is a report created by 15 experts in their field about the problem of how geopolitical strategies must be changed and adapted in order to stay and maintain a successfull global governance, without the need to wage wars. The general conclusion of this report is that at the time of writing , the 1960's, the trend to global disarmament was started, the USA would have to fall under the United Nations, UN and obey them. All souvereign nations borders will disappear, the army's of the USA and USSR will be vanished, a new army, the UN global army will take over, next to a new global federal police. Humanism will become the new theocracy... the old world religions will only be accessable inside museums.

Peter "Pete" Seeger (born May 3, 1919) is an American folk singer and an iconic figure in the mid-20th century American folk music revival. A fixture on nationwide radio in the 1940s, he also had a string of hit records during the early 1950s as a member of The Weavers, most notably the 1950 recording of Leadbelly's "Goodnight, Irene", which topped the charts for 13 weeks in 1950.[1] Members of The Weavers were blacklisted during the McCarthy Era. In the 1960s, he re-emerged on the public scene as a prominent singer of protest music in support of international disarmament, civil rights, and for environmental causes. As a song writer, he is best known as the author or co-author of "Where Have All the Flowers Gone?", "If I Had a Hammer (The Hammer Song)" (composed with Lee Hays of The Weavers), and "Turn, Turn, Turn!", which have been recorded by many artists both in and outside the folk revival movement and are still sung throughout the world. "Flowers" was a hit recording for The Kingston Trio (1962), Marlene Dietrich, who recorded it in English, German and French (1962), and Johnny Rivers (1965). Shedding Light on Buckminster Fuller's Unknown Collaborator October 30, 2009 Interview with Professor Cheryl Fish. Visiting the Whitney Museum last year, BMCC English professor Cheryl Fish couldnt help noticing that an exhibition of Buckminster Fullers work lacked any mention of his long-time collaborator, June Jordan. A poet, essayist, educator and social activist, Jordan had worked closely with Fuller in the 1960s on Skyrise for Harlem, a conceptually daring architectural redesign of the neighborhoods crumbling tenements. Renderings of the project were featured in the show, but only Fullers name appeared. Correcting an historical omission Fish brought the lapse to the attention of the curators and provided materials that documented Jordans role. Soon thereafter, her name appeared alongside Fullers on a descriptive placard. I was happy to be able to make a difference in getting Jordans name in front of the public, Fish says. Now Fish has taken another step toward raising Jordans profile with the publication of an essay entitled Place, Emotion and Environmental Justice in Harlem: June Jordan and Buckminster Fullers 1965 Architextual Collaboration, published in Discourse, Journal for Theoretical Studies in Media and Culture (Wayne State University). The fact is, few people know about Jordan or her collaboration with Fuller, says Fish, whose English course often emphasize environmental justice issues in literature and film (she is also coordinator of BMCCs intensive writing ...

Gilberto Passos Gil Moreira (born June 26, 1942), better known as Gilberto Gil is a Brazilian singer, guitarist, and songwriter, known for both his musical innovation and his political commitment. From 2003 to 2008, he served as his country's Minister of Culture in the administration of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva. Gil began playing music as a child and was still a teenager when he joined his first band. He started out as a bossa nova musician, eventually writing songs that reflected a new focus on political awareness and social activism. He was a key figure in the Música Popular Brasileira and Tropicalismo movements of the 1960s, alongside artists such as longtime collaborator Caetano Veloso. The Brazilian military regime that took power in 1964 saw both Gil and Veloso as a threat, and the two were held for nine months in 1969 before they were told to leave the country. Gil moved to London, but returned to the Brazilian state of Bahia in 1972 and continued his musical career, as well as working as a politician and environmental advocate. Gil's musical style incorporates an eclectic range of influences, including rock, Brazilian genres including samba and forró, African music, and reggae.

Kirkpatrick Sale 01-19-96 Air date Kirkpatrick Sale (Ithaca, New York 1937) is an independent scholar and author who has written prolifically about environmentalism, technology and political decentralism. He has been described as "a leader of the Neo-Luddites"[1] and "the theoretician for a new secessionist movement."[2] Life and work Sale graduated from Cornell University, majoring in history, in 1958.[3][4] He served as editor of the student-owned and managed newspaper, the Cornell Daily Sun. She died in 1999.[5] Sale worked initially in journalism for the leftist journal New Leader and the New York Times Magazine, before becoming a freelance journalist. He spent time in Ghana and wrote his first book about it. His second book, SDS, was about the radical 1960s group Students for a Democratic Society. Subsequent books explored radical decentralism, bioregionalism, environmentalism, the Luddites and similar themes.[4] He has continued to write for publications like The ...

all this in detail on Talking Points Memo. Where this leaves the realm of farce and enters the realm of actually dangerous is how this whole ACORN lie dovetails with the William Ayers lie - the idea being peddled relentlessly by Sarah Palin that Obama somehow has a secret, long and profound connection to Ayers and 1960s "terrorists." While we're at it, why not demonize those who work with the poor? Remember the Republican convention? "He's a community organizer!" (Sarah Palin) Electorally, I ...
