The great Eric Donaldson with his hit "Blue Boot" in fab Mono sound. Orig on the Dynamic label; "Club Reggae - Vol 4". Trojan label TBL-188. 1972.
I just love this sweet & happy tune from Eric Donaldson. You can see how off centre the record is. Why are so many JA pressing so badly off centre, or have half the label going across the vinyl? Weed Beat JA pressing. 1978.

Thank you Eric Donaldson for coming to Utila Carnival 2009. Aug 8 2009 Eric played for a free concert in Utila, Honduras at Chepes Beach. We were one of the primary sponsors and happy to do so! After all the things that have plagued Honduras in 2009 - worldwide economic collapse, then the earthquakes, then the swine flu (albeit non-existent in Honduras, but still suffered from the perceived proximity to Mexico) and then the presidential ousting (it's all Zelaya's fault)... This was the best thing to happen to Utila for sure in 2009!

intro Medley - Cherry Oh Baby Composição: Eric Donaldson Cherry oh, Cherry oh, baby, Don`t you know I'm in love with you If you don`t believe it`s true, What else is there for me to do? Look how long I,ve been waiting, For you to come right in. And now that we are together, Please make all my joys come over. Oh oh ee oh oh ee oh, Oh oh ee oh ee oh ee oh. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, Yah. Oh, yeah. Yeah, Yeah, Yeah. Cherry, oh, Cherry, oh, baby, Don`t you know I`m in love with you? If you don`t believe I do, Then why don`t you try me? I will never let you down, Never make you wear no frown. If you say you love me madly, Then babe I'll accept you gladly. Cherry, oh, Cherry, oh, baby, Don`t you know I`m in love with you? If you don`t believe I do, Then why don`t you try me? I will never let you down, Never make you wear no frown. If you say you love me madly, Then babe I'll accept you gladly.
Cherry Oh Baby - Eric Donaldson (1971). Recorded 1989 on PCRL (People's Community Radio Link) Birmingham UK. PCRL began life in Handsworth as a pirate radio station in 1981 (although reggae could be heard on Birmingham's pirate airwaves during the 70s, the stations were not predominantly reggae orientated). The station was founded by Cecil Morris, described by a court judge as a "cornerstone of the black community". The station catered for the immigrant and British-born Caribbean community, playing reggae, rap, soul, hip-hop, soca, calypso and other music affiliated to British Black culture. Unusually, for a radio pirate, the station carried regular and detailed news bulletins including outside broadcasts from their own on-the-spot reporters, plus health education messages focussed on AIDS and drug abuse. PCRL closed in February 2004 after the station organisers were fined and "prime mover" Cecil Morris given a suspended prison sentence for illegal broadcasting. I personally tuned into PCRL as early as 1987 and it was always a respectful pirate with great shows and desire to cater for sections of the community which otherwise were forgotten/overlooked. This particular broadcast is a bit fuzzy, not bad considering it was recorded 70 miles away on a hill in South Herefordshire. :) Pics are just a small selection of high rise estates across Greater Birmingham area. Another reggae classic from the mid 70s at a time when 'Pluto' and Johny Nash were dominating the market, Eric had so many recordings out that it was hard not to notice him as his music was everywhere.

ERIC DONALDSON - Please Let Me Love You
From 1973, and on the Jaguar label outa Dynamic Sounds, Eric Donaldson sings an ode to his beautiful maiden. A lovely, lilting tune with the version called "instrumental". Produced by Tommy Cowan and Warrick Lyn. Engineers are C. Lee and R. Logan. Superb.
The original singer of "Cherry Oh Baby", made famous by UB40, sings in his trademark falsetto on this fairly obscure release on Weed Beat. Don't know much more about it, but it probably dates from the late '70s. It's a cracking tune though.
