Many drivers feel intimidated by the large size of large trucks, sometimes known as Mack trucks, eighteen-wheelers or tractor-trailers. Truck drivers are supposed to be trained professionals whose work is strictly regulated -- and most are. Unfortunately, a few Floridians learn each year that some truckers and their equipment fall through the cracks, leading to unsafe drivers or faulty equipment that could fail at any time, putting the innocent motorists around them in grave danger. When a 10000-pound truck hits a passenger vehicle, it's not a fair fight. The laws of physics say that a larger vehicle will always crush a smaller one in an accident, causing death or serious injuries to the driver and passengers. Statistics show that the vast majority of people in a passenger car hit by a truck will die. Those who live often sustain serious spinal and brain injuries that leave them permanently disabled, unable to work and dependent on caregivers. These disabilities can be devastating, robbing victims of their independence as well as their ability to make a living and provide for loved ones. They can also be very expensive, requiring years of therapy and sometimes additional surgeries. Families that suffered a wrongful death may face high funeral costs at a time when they've just lost an income unexpectedly. Florida law allows victims to sue negligent truck drivers and their companies for these costs and any others caused by a serious truck accident. Truckers and their ...

Video number twenty-two in the AT Short series: Silent Night. Each AT Short has its own message (sometimes two: one musical and one visual), and because each AT Short video has a different message, you may not like all of them, but you will like enough of them. As many as 3.5 million Americans are homeless each year. Of these, more than 1 million are children. In fact, The Center for American Progress estimates that gay and transgendered youth account for 20-40 percent of homeless youth in the US because families are banishing their gay and transgendered children as they come out younger and younger; the report finds, the average age that a gay or lesbian youth becomes homeless is14.4 years old, and on any given night, more than 300000 children are homeless. While the general impression is that the homeless are primarily the chronic and episodic, those unfortunate individuals often seen living on the streets in the downtown areas of our cities, the fact is that more than half the homeless are families with children. The vast majority of these have been thrust into homelessness by a life altering event or series of events that were unexpected and unplanned for. Contrary to the belief that homelessness is primarily the result of major traumatic events or physical and mental disabilities, there are many top causes of homelessness in America. Indeed, for those living in poverty or close to the poverty line, an "everyday" life issue that may be manageable for individuals with a ...
