Fasciotomy has no followers yet. Be the first one to follow.
A 16 years old patient with recent history of a high voltage cable electrocution. He came to the ED with tachiarrhythmia and compartment syndrome in both hands. He went under urgent arms fasciotomy in order to decompress the compartments. Even though the arms were decompressed he lost both of his hands since electrical burns damage from the inside to the outside. I have uploaded this video in order to prevent more unnecessary injuries and create conscience in those who work with electricity.

www.helpparmalee.com Parmalee drummer Scott Thomas update Tuesday 10 12:30 (est) Scott has made remarkable progress since his removal from the intensive care unit at CMC He has begun physical and occupational therapy treatment. The greatest gain has been the removal from dialysis treatments, and it is not anticipated that he will return to dialysis at this time. The medical prognosis is positive enough that his "port" for dialysis has been removed. This is an extremely significant step in his recovery. Scott has shown a dogged determination to push himself to the limits of his physical therapy. He has performed outstanding in his 4 days of physical therapy. His occupational therapy skills are being accomplished as asked. Occupational therapy would include task such as brushing one's teeth, dressing one's self, independent bathroom visits, and other normal "occupational" task. His abdominal area and the fasciotomy (incisions made to relieve swelling pressure) to his right calve are continuing to heal. Medical examination and wound inspection produce a positive report. Scott still has excessive swelling of the right calve fasciotomy due to excess fluid. Wound-vac treatment is still ongoing, and the muscle tissue is healthy. Scott developed a spiked fever last night, and it was treated and has been reduced to a more normal range at this time. He has maintained an irregular elevated temperature since his arrival at CMC It has been more normal in recent days, however, it ...

Following a rugby injury I suffered Compartment Syndrome in my quadricep muscle requiring a Fasciotomy to my right leg. This was after the initial surgery to relieve the pressure. The plastic surgeon has had to remove the external and internal stitches to the left side of my leg as the pressure had started to build back up. Both the right and left side of the leg had been cut open down to the muscle and I was awaiting surgery for a skin graft.
This is my story . . I am a victim of a Drunk Driver

In this video: Jim attends a BTE therapy session to help him regain some of the strength and dexterity he lost in his hands and fingers. Background Story: After being admitted to ER on New Years Eve 2009, Jim spent two weeks fighting for his life in ICU, and almost six months in hospital recovering from the serious complications of a rare illness. In addition to almost taking his life (doctors gave him a 20% chance to live), the illness brought acute kidney failure, 4-limb compartment syndrome, over two months of delirium, and other extensive injuries. Jim is still recovering as an out-patient and attends regular therapy to regain as much mobility as possible. This journey of Jim's recovery has been recorded and documented by his wife, Liesa Evans. They both thank everyone for all the good wishes and support!

13-year-old Evan Frustaglio died on Monday,October 26 and it has been confirmed that he had H1N1 infection. The media is using the fact that he played in a hockey tournament after falling ill as proof of his good health and are using this to push the notion that any healthy child may die ofswine flu at any time and that all healthy children should be vaccinated. However, strenuous exercise during influenza infection is known to increase mortality. Articles on Evan's death: www.cbc.ca www.theglobeandmail.com www.flutrackers.com MSN article on exercise and influenza: health.msn.com Study on exercise, influenza and mortality: www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov A while ago,I had found awebsite promoting flu vaccine, which included an article about a 15-year-old boy who had developedsevere compartment syndrome and died after engaging in strenuous exercise while suffering from influenza. Because he wasfoundto have influenza, the site authors conclude the solution would beto vaccinate all children, while disregarding the role thatexercise played. I will post a link if I find this website. Compartment syndrome: www.worldortho.com Rhabdomyolysis: Compartment syndrome is a clinical diagnosis (ie no tests conclusively prove its presence or absence), but direct measurement of the pressure in a fascial compartment may be used to assess its severity. Values of 3050 mmHg (46.5 kPa) indicate severe compartment syndrome and possible need for fasciotomy, which is an incision to relieve increased pressure ...
