Down at the local cricket nets, facing tennis balls travelling up to 280kph. DO NOT TRY THIS AT HOME. We were wearing protection and had safety measures in place. At 280kph, a tennis ball will have about 140 joules of energy and would feel like getting hit by a 156gram projectile (ie a cricket ball) travelling 155kph. Muzzle velocity at 120PSI is 450kph but the average velocity over 22 meters is 280kph as the tennis ball slows down significantly over the distance.

www.wholebrainpower.net Chris Lavery is on track to developing the fastest left handed serve in the world. If you study the athletic service motion that he has you can see the potential for him to hit serves in the 135 mph plus range.
www.wholebrainpower.net In this video clip from Whole Brain Planet, Chris Lavery is demonstrating how tennis might be played in the future. Chris is developing the most ambidextrous athletic tennis game in the history of the sport. In this video clip some mirror imaging of the strokes and serves have been utilized so that what appears to be a left handed forehand is actually a right handed forehand and vice versa. This allows for the scrutiny by Chris and coaches. The goal is to have a perfect symmetry between the two sides. Chris has been encouraged to think outside of the box since a very early age. The results are proving to work extremely well. Thus far in his training at tennis he has developed the ability to serve both left handed and right handed. He uses a single handed forehand from both the left and the right sides as well as hitting a one handed and two handed backhands from both sides. Most tennis experts would argue against such a ridiculous way of teaching tennis. They claim that the brain and body are not meant to be trained in this manner and that there is not enough time for a serious player to train this way even if it was proven that ambidexterity could be nurtured. That position is quite understandable. Tennis has been played for nearly 130 years and no one has proven this methodology to be effective at the professional level or even at the college level. That in itself represents a challenge for Chris and he enjoys going after this mountain to climb ...
www.wholebrainpower.net In this video clip ambidextrous tennis player Chris Lavery gets great height off the court as he hits his first serve. Chris has a very high toss and he also goes up for the ball. Sometimes he gets two feet off the court as he is hitting his serve. With this angle he hits down into the court. When he is hitting his serve in the 120mph range it is very difficult to return. Read the book Whole Brain power written by Michael J. Lavery and Gregory S. Walsh and learn about how Chris has been trained to be the world's most anbidextrous tennis player. His brother James Lavery is also ripping the ball with two single handed forehands. There are now many people practicing the tenets of Whole Brain Power and learning to improve their bilateral coordination. The theories of how the brain expands its neural fields is discussed in the book.

This 147 MPH serve by Taylor Dent (18 second mark in this video) went unnoticed by almost everyone since Navarro got his racket on it and the ball did not explode off the court as it did with his other 140 MPH+ serves.
Scott Warner, who is among the world's fastest tennis servers, demonstrates a serve, both in real-time and slow-motion.
At the Montreal Rogers Cup, there is this stand where we can measure the speed of our tennis serve. I am disappointed that on that day, I couldn't serve faster than 104 mph (167 km/h). I don't want to make up excuses here, but you have to agree that I would serve better with my own racket and some shoes... Well, that's what I've been telling myself :)
Once again I managed to beat my speed record in this classic Nintendo Game Boy game, Tennis. My previous record was 6min 28sec (www.youtube.com This one is 6min 12sec. I got very lucky in many places: * 0:38, 1:17, 4:20 : the referee didn't consider any of my shots "out", although these were. * 1:24 and 3:04 : the computer sometimes hits the net. * 3:18 : I sometimes hit the net and the ball still goes over. * 4:24 : Just in time to catch the lob. Very close. Other comments: * 1:29, 2:20 : The computer occasionally faults when serving. In such a case, during the second service, it will serve a very slow ball. While these are easy to return, it loses time. * 2:40 : This was the only time in this match I got a chance to hit a fast smash. * 5:12 : Craziest rally in this match! * 5:54 : The last rally of the match is interesting to watch too. Two slow smashes elegantly finish off the match. Embarrassing moments: * 1:51 : How could I miss this ball? * 1:58 : The ball hit me! * 3:36 : Another ball I miss, but I run after it and get to hit it again. * 3:46 : Over-eagerness. I waved the racquet too soon and thus missed the ball. * 4:48 : One of the dumbest mistakes you can make in this game is to assume that the computer won't catch the ball and not prepare yourself in case it does. Five rallies I lost: * 1:51, 1:58, 3:46, 4:07, 4:48
