The QE Case for Gold and Silver by: Ashraf Laidi September 05, 2010 The case for metals remains not that of outright inflation but that of central banks' prolonged liquidity drives. Currencies will gain/fall versus one another, but fresh asset purchases will maintain gold and silver ahead. Rising metals remained the consistent play over the past 2 months, supporting my near-term gold outlook for $1270/oz and $1330 by Q4. Meanwhile, Silver finally breaks the $19.80 ceiling to attain its highest level since March 2008. Unlike gold, silver has yet break its 2008 record high of $21.35/oz. Players are gauging this level with high interest. Each time gold's rise hits the headlines, it steals the limelight from its cheaper cousin, silver. But as the charts show below, silver has not only followed closely on the rallies, but usually outperformed gold during the general advances in metals, as shown via the falling Gold/Silver ratio. Aside from the evident dynamics of a possible QE2 (quantitative easing phase 2) from the Fed and the Bank of England, gold and silver are especially propped by the upcoming wedding season in India (December-February). In general, the demand side is boosted by the Asian harvest, after which farmers spend their hard-earned income in gold. The QE argument has also proven to empower gold and silver. Texas-based tuners Hennessey Performance has finished development on the Hennessey VelociRaptor 600 Twin Turbo and VelociRaptor 800 Twin Turbo trucks, based on the recently-released Ford F-150 SVT Raptor. Both special vehicles use a 6.2-liter V8 engine, just like the base model, but with a host of upgrades. Getting the VelociRaptor 600 to produce 605 horsepower (451 kW / 613 PS) and up to 622 ft-lb (842 Nm) of torque was no easy feat. The company installed twin ball bearing turbochargers, dual intercoolers, improved fuel injection system, and a new stainless steel exhaust. Aside from modifying the engine's control unit, the firm adds an electronic boost controller, dual blow-off valves and dual 44 millimeter wastegates. It takes a bit more to make the truck a VelociRaptor 800. After adding aluminum pistons, steel connecting rods, a balanced crankshaft, and further modifications to the ECU, the engine kicks out 810 hp (604 kW / 821 PS). Maximum torque rises to an impressive 45 ft-lb (1009 Nm). Look for the Hennessey VelociRaptor 800 to sprint to 60 mph in about five seconds flat, with the 600 being a few tenths of a second slower. Pricing for the upgrade package starts at $22950, with installation costing an additional $7000. TranStar Racing, formerly known as GTR-XS Racing, is announcing they're going to build the TranStar Dagger GT which apparently outputs 2000 hp. The power of the TranStar Dagger GT supercar comes from a GM built 9.4 liter V8 engine that has 2000 lb-ft of torque. With a 212.8 hp per liter power-to-weight ration, the new supercar aims to be the fastest production model in the world. the manufacturer believes the TranStar Dagger GT will be able to get from 0 to 60 mph in under 1.5 seconds and to a top speed of 300 mph. That's roughly 480 km/h ! The TranStar Dagger GT price will start at 450000 USD and the company plans to deliver 5 of them in 2011. The manufacturer claims it has tested the new supercar on the Nurburgring and Virginia International Raceway and it managed to complete the quarter mile below 6.7 seconds at 200 mph. Other details of the construction of the TranStar Dagger GT have not been released yet, but the company says it has already five units under contract and is negotiating for 10 more for 2012. The Chinese govt have been advising the people of China to buy gold, even going so far as to produce television programmes explaining the benefits and logistics of doing so. As we know from experience, the ability to print paper, and credit, money by fiat is a privilege held dear by governments - not something they wish, or can generally afford, to let go of. The Chinese govt are not, generally, renowned for kindness to their population so there MUST be a payoff perceived by China for the future. I wonder if the Chinese govt are going to, at some point, allow minting of gold into high-value coins denominated in their currency. There is a precedent in coins sasuch as the Panda Gold Coin. This one, from 1982 I think, has a face value of 500 yuan, which is around $73. A person who bought it at face value, when 1 oz of gold was only around 500 yuan, still has the nominal 500 yuan secured in the coin's legal tender... but the 1 oz of gold is now worth close to 8000 yuan! Heads you hold your nominal value... tails you make a packet if gold goes up. Anyway, a massive conversion of citizen's gold to legal tender would create a solid pm-backing for their currency financed by the savings of the population. This new performance version of the Fiat 500 Abarth confirms the link between Abarth and Ferrari based on shared values that include a passion for performance, a racing soul, attention to detail and Italian style. Abarth and Ferrari are two great names that have contributed, with conviction and dedication, to the legend of Italian racing that is known around the world. The legendary men behind both marques followed very similar careers: first drivers, then tuners and finally heads of companies that command genuine respect in the world of motor racing. These extraordinary men were associated in the past: in 1953, for example, a unique Ferrari-Abarth was born, the Ferrari 166/250 MM Abarth.
