Part 4 of my interview with Bill Warner. Bill explains how he quit his job at Apollo Computer to pursue his dream of building the AVID Media Composer. A remarkable study in entrepreneurship, he goes on to describe hiring his first engineer, Jeff Bedell, building more prototypes, arranging a demo suite at the NAB Show in April of 1987, and raising the venture capital to get to the next level.
Demand is exceeding our capacity. The ethic of "more, bigger, faster" exacts a series of silent but pernicious costs at work, undermining our energy, focus, creativity, and passion. Nearly 75 percent of employees around the world feel disengaged at work every day. "The Way We're Working Isn't Working" offers a groundbreaking approach to reenergizing our lives so we're both more satisfied and more productive—on the job and off. By integrating multidisciplinary findings from the science of high performance, Tony Schwartz, coauthor of the #1 bestselling The Power of Full Engagement, makes a persuasive case that we're neglecting the four core needs that energize great performance: sustainability (physical); security (emotional); self-expression (mental); and significance (spiritual). Rather than running like computers at high speeds for long periods, we're at our best when we pulse rhythmically between expending and regularly renewing energy across each of our four needs. Drawing on extensive work with an extra-ordinary range of organizations, Schwartz creates a road map for a new way of working. At the individual level, he explains how we can build specific rituals into our daily schedules to balance intense effort with regular renewal; offset emotionally draining experiences with practices that fuel resilience; move between a narrow focus on urgent demands and more strategic, creative thinking; and balance a short-term focus on immediate results with a values-driven ...
Dava Sobel, a writer of popular expositions on scientific topics, has published works such as Longitude: The True Story of a Long Genius Who Solved the Greatest Scientific Problem of His Time; Galileo's Daughter: A Historical Memoir of Science, Faith and Love; ,and The Planets. Her work has also been dramatized for television on the A&E Network. In this program from the NIST Colloquium series, she discusses how navigators and scientist like Galileo and Newton had difficulty keeping track of longitude until an unknown self-educated clockmaker offered timekeeping as the unlikely solution.
Dr. Uwe Bergmann, a staff scientist in physics at the Stanford Synchrotron Radiation Laboratory, discusses the fascinating journey of a 1000-year-old parchment from its origin in Constantinople to an X-ray line in California. This NIST Colloquium Series presentation also explains how X-rays have been used to make other discoveries about artifacts from the 12th through the 20th centuries.

Sonic and company take a trip on the Thorndyke yacht to see glaciers, but Sonic's fear of water and inability to relax gets to him; in the process, Sonic goes partially insane and desperately tries to return to shore. When a helicopter arrives, Sonic and the others assume it is his requested ride out, but Tanaka has arrived with senior citizens whose goal is to teach Sonic and friends to relax. Sonic tries harder than ever to leave, momentarily tricking Tails into wanting to return as well, and using Amy's crush on him as leverage to make her look like she's going crazy from the slow trip. After successfully thwarting an attack by Eggman with his new Egg Fort 2, Sonic finally decides to stay and relax.
This is a Christian Hip-Hop parody of Fort Minor's "Remember the Name". It combines two things that I am passionate about: God and Hip-Hop music. It's one of many ways to worship and give praise to the Lord. Thanks for watching and God Bless Lyrics: Chorus This is ten percent love, twenty percent will Fifteen percent to the cross on top of the hill Five percent grace, fifty percent pain And a hundred percent reason to remember His name 1st Verse The One who said and brought forth the light Said in the book of John He's the Way, the Truth and the Life And He feels so unlike anybody else that I know Gave up His life to save us not to put on a show, I know He is the key, the ultimate authority He's all about integrity, the rock and my voice Making history, by breaking sin and tearing it up Gave us the church to build and prosper 'til our time here is up Who is this Jesus Christ anyway? He never really wants much Never concerned with money or status so I'm awestruck Humbled Himself to be a human despite the fact That He is the Son of God...now meditate on that Like a vine and its branches, us and Jesus connect Because we all need His mercy, love, peace, and respect He's only focused on fellowship, God's will is in our reach The Lord of the universe, behold all His majesty This is twenty percent faith, eighty percent fear Be a hundred certain, revival is here His death and resurrection, they both changed the game Jesus changed the way we live and now it's never the same Came ...

The online world is as varied as people are varied in their moral views, their economic circumstances and their social structures. Lee Rainie, Director of the Pew Research Center's Internet & American Life Project based in Washington, DC, will discuss social, economic, and political trends especially among the younger generation that have given rise to a new and emerging class of networked citizens. The conversation will cover questions such as: How have the internet and smart phones enabled modern citizens to create information and media that help them influence others, navigate their options and create new kinds of communities? Are new tools of social media - like blogs, social network sites and texting - reshaping the very environment of media and information itself? The Pew Research Center is a nonpartisan "fact tank" that provides information on the issues, attitudes and trends shaping America and the world. It does so by conducting public opinion polling and social science research, by analyzing news coverage, and by holding forums and briefings. It does not take positions on policy issues. The Center is a subsidiary of The Pew Charitable Trusts. pewresearch.org

Museum Legs—taken from a term for art fatigue—starts with a question: Why do people get bored and tired in art museums and why does that matter? As Whitaker writes in this humorous and incisive collection of essays, museums matter for reasons that have less to do with art as we know it and more to do with business, politics, and the age-old question of how to live. Maybe the great age of museums will yet be a great age of creativity and hopeful possibility in everyday life.

"Fifteen-year old Elizabeth "Liz" "Lizzie" Marie Hall has found herself in ELSEWHERE after dying in a bicycle-meets-taxi accident. After taking a long ride on the SS Nile, Liz has finally realized that she's not in a dream after all, but really, truly dead. When she arrives on Elsewhere, she meets her maternal grandmother, Betty, for the very first time. A woman who died at fifty from breast cancer, Betty is now a woman in her thirties--one of the first surprises Liz is in for is the fact that, on Elsewhere, lives are lived backward from the age of a person's death. Needless to say, this thought depresses Liz. She'll never be sixteen, never have a Massachusetts driver's license, never go to the prom or graduate from high school or go to college or get married. The only thing she has to look forward to is growing younger, until she returns to being an infant and is sent back to Earth to be born again. Characters- Elizabeth Marie Hall (Liz) - main character •"Sorry but nothing of much importance ever happened to me...I'm just a girl who forgot to look both ways before crossing the street." •"Excuse me, but would you happen to know where we are?" Owen Welles- boyfriend •"I guess you could say I'm a friend of Liz's." •"I'd just thought you would want to know he got the sweater..." Thandi - best friend •"Thandiwe Washington, but people just call me Thandi." •"The thing is...well...are you a skinhead or something?" Betty - Liz's grandmother •"Do you like architecture?" •"I don ...
Classic Sermon by Watchman Nee: on The Blood of Christ About Watchman Nee Early Ministry Shortly after Watchman Nee was saved, he began to love the Lord and was intensely burdened to preach the gospel to his schoolmates and countrymen in season and out of season. Through his preaching nearly all his schoolmates were led to the Lord, and a revival was brought into his school and spread extensively to the people of his hometown in 1923. Hundreds were saved and had their lives changed. Watchman Nee did not attend a theological school or Bible institute. Most of what he learned concerning Christ, the things of the Spirit, and church history was acquired through studying the Bible and reading the books of spiritual men. Watchman Nee was not only an excellent student of the Bible; he was also a studious reader of spiritual books. He was brilliantly gifted in being able to select, comprehend, discern, and memorize appropriate material. He could easily grasp the points of a book at a glance. A Living Faith Because of overwork and lack of adequate physical care, Watchman Nee became sick with tuberculosis of the lungs in 1924. It became so serious that rumors were spread that he had died. During this time of illness, he was greatly exercised to trust in God for his existence, and God faithfully cared for him. God graciously healed him of tuberculosis, but sovereignly left him with angina pectoris. He could have died at any moment. This spontaneously ushered him into a full trust in ...

audio.bz - It was the last-chance moment of the war. In January 2007, President George W. Bush announced a new strategy for Iraq. He called it "the surge". "Many listening tonight will ask why this effort will succeed when previous operations to secure Baghdad did not. Well, here are the differences," he told a skeptical nation. Among those listening were the young, optimistic Army infantry soldiers of the 2-16, the battalion nicknamed the Rangers. About to head to a vicious area of Baghdad, they decided the difference would be them. Fifteen months later, the soldiers returned home forever changed. Pulitzer Prize-winning Washington Post reporter David Finkel was with them in Bagdad almost every grueling step of the way. What was the true story of the surge? Was it really a success? Those are the questions he grapples with in his remarkable report from the front lines. Combining the action of Mark Bowden's Black Hawk Down with the literary brio of Tim O'Brien's The Things They Carried, The Good Soldiers is an unforgettable work of reportage. And in telling the story of these good soldiers, the heroes and the ruined, David Finkel has also produced an eternal tale - not just of the Iraq War, but of all wars, for all time.

Chapter Two Andrew's Point of View: After the ladies went inside, I stood in place, my feet locked. What just happened to me?I saw maybe twenty young, beautiful women around me. They flooded around my presence like seagulls would swarm around fish. And yet Jenny was the rainbow on a cloudy day. I didn't even know her last name. She needed to stay here. I hope Henry doesn't make her leave. I picked up my book, put my bookmark in place, and headed towards the door. It was very quiet and peaceful today. It was a Monday, a sunny, warm Monday. I liked Mondays. They were the beginning of a new week, a new chance to start over and make new accomplishments. Today was the beginning of something; I could feel it in the wind that stroked the back of my neck. I walked into the castle, knowing I needed to go speak with my father. I walked into the overly decorated throne room wondering what he wanted to talk to me about. "Andrew," my father greeted me. He is the King of England, Paul the Third. My mother, the queen, is Rosalie. "Father," I answered him. "There seems to be a problem here." "And that would be?" "You are eighteen years of age without a hint on who you want your wife to be." I squinted my eyes. "Yes, like most eighteen year old boys." "But you are not like most boys, Andrew. You are the Prince of England, and I cannot let you take the throne without knowing there will be a woman by your side." "You are not stepping down anytime soon; so what's the problem?" He started ...

Decided to try my hand at the original Mario Paint Composer... well, fifteen or so years ago. But this time I decided to compose something to be published on the interwebz. I wanted to do something simple, so I did the Main Theme from Genso Suikoden (we need more Suikoden music XD). This is also the first time I used sheet music, so yes, I cheated a little, but I did have to transpose the key to make it fit. And actually, this song is more of a semi-variation, mixing both of the first two games' song versions. I didn't have much of a choice; there were far too many accidentals to just follow one or the other. If it sounds clunky, some of it is intentional, but some of it is due to me omitting a few of the accidentals. I had to completely modify the ending and bits of the first half of the song because simply taking the accidentals out made it sound sloppy and awkward. And leaving them in... well... made it just sound icky. LOL. I love Genso Suikoden music, especially the first game's OST. You just don't hear music like that anymore. Yeah, I know I sometimes rip on the second game's OST, but it's really due to the sound quality--the compositions themselves are good. Miki Higashino is truly an amazingly gifted, one-of-a-kind composer. I'm sure I don't do her music justice at all, but this was still a fun and interesting experience. I took a page from mrpeach32's book and pieced together the video with fade transitions. Not sure what is up with those weird lines, sorry ...

Legend and local folklore hints that this may be the final resting place of King Arthur himself. King Arthur has a mythical connection with Arthur's Stone, the neolithic tomb or cromlech sitting atop the hill between Bredwardine and Dorstone. The impressive elongate stone table measures 5.8mx 3.5m (19ft x 11ft 4") and although it does not qualify geometrically as a Round Table, there are many legends associated with it as a meeting place for Kings and Knights, with King Arthur supposedly having fought a king here, broken his back and buried him beneath the stones. More prosaically it is known to have been a burial place for the people of the region 5000 years ago, and is in fact a chambered tomb which has lost its earth mound covering. It is also at the northern end of one of the earliest-reported ley-lines with the sacred mountain of Skirrid Fawr visible at the other end, fifteen miles due south. Alfred Watkins' association with Bredwardine comes from his interest in Arthur's Stone as a point on a ley-line reportedly connecting Snodhill Castle, Urishay Castle, Longtown Castle, Old Castle, Hatterall Camp and Skirrid Fawr. Alfred (1855-1935) was born in Hereford and travelled widely in the county as he developed his various interests which included photographic processes and equipment, and archaeology. He believed that ancient trackways, trading routes and burial paths established alignments which he called ley lines, which might be marked by standing stones or other ...

This ersatz pirate sea song "The Derelict" (also known as "Fifteen Men on a Dead Man's Chest" or "Yo Ho Ho and a Bottle of Rum") is from the poem "The Derelict" by Young E. Allison (1853-1932), first set to music for the 1901 Broadway musical of "Treasure Island". Allison's poem is based on an expansion of the famous four lines of chorus sung by the character of Billy Bones in the Robert Louis Stevenson book "Treasure Island". It has been used in many later works of art in various forms and has recently been re-popularized by Disney's "Pirates of the Caribbean."
