www.omarkhairat.com A composer, pianist, founder and conductor of "Omar Khairat's Group". Born in Cairo. He was raised in a family of musicians. His uncle is Abou-Bakr Khairat, the great Egyptian composer and architect who established the Cairo Conservatoire and enriched the Arab music with great symphonic pieces. Influenced by this legacy Omar Khairat discovered new musical dimensions in the emotions and memories of the Egyptian and Arab personality. He joined the Cairo Conservatoire in 1959, studied piano with Italian Maestro Vincenzo Carro and followed correspondence courses in music theory and composition with the Trinity College in England. Omar Khairat shaped his musical identity as a professional independent composer achieving new musical visions characterized with deepness and richness. His debut performing in film music was The Night of Arresting Fatma in 1983. According to music experts and critics, Omar Khairat's music bridges contemporary Arab music and Western music reflecting genuine maturity. Moreover, he is considered to be one of the most outstanding composers presenting successful works like The Fortune-teller, The Magic Perfumes (1989), and the Arab Rhapsody (1992). He also composed music for international events like the National Feast of Oman 1993, the Inauguration Ceremony of Bibliotheca Alexandrina 1996, Carthage Festival, Tunisia, Operetta El Sheikh Zaid, Emirates 2000, Panorama El Abour "Symphonic Poem", Musical Impact Cairo 1991, Fine Arts Cycle ...
Helicopters also offer fascinating fodder for artists, especially those who have served in them. Used for troop transport, rescue, heavy lifting, attack, and patrol, the modern helicopter has changed the face of war. One of my favorite photographs (not included here) was a picture shot by another Denver Post/National Geographic photographer, Al Moldvay, showing a group of Vietnamese soldiers getting their first airlift to the front. Their faces were frozen in awe and tinged with fear. The music is Matthew Good's "Black Helicopters."

"Many things have inspired me as an artist. One of the biggest influences on my work is "Shamanic" art, which includes the art of pre-historic Europe and the Middle East as well as African, Polynesian, and native American art. In addition to this I would also include the art of ancient civilizations such as Egyptian, Sumerian, Meso-American, etc... Closer to the present era, some of my favourite artists are Picasso, Escher, Elvgren, Monet, and Haring. These are the guys who made me want to be a painter. Of course I can not deny that contemporary popular culture in general has made me who I am today; the world that I live in and all I perceive in our particular age location. Everything from music to architecture, from video games to religious symbols has all had an impact on me.
Anna Maria Elisabeth Lisinska Jerichau-Baumann was a Polish-Danish painter of german decent. At the age of nineteen, Elisabeth Jerichau-Baumann began her studies in Düsseldorf. She began exhibiting there and in 1844 attracted public attention for the first time. She moved to Rome, and it was here that she met her future husband, the danish sculptor Jens Adolf Jerichau, whom she married in 1846. The couple moved to Copenhagen in 1849 where her husband became a professor in the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts. Elisabeth was not well received by the Danish art world which was preoccupied at the time with preserving a Danish artistic identity based in the Danish Golden Age of art and the legacy of CW Eckersberg. She was not intimidated, however, and tried to find subjects that would appeal to the Danish public. Even though her painting Danmark (1851) became well-known, she had more success with painting portraits of important Danes and did several of Queen Louise of Denmark (1817 - 1898). and her daughters who kept up a correspondence with her. Yet in spite of this royal patronage, the Danish art world remained cool toward her and the State Museum of Art bought and exhibited only one of her paintings 'A Wounded Danish soldier'. She had great success abroad, however, and had a special following in France where she was twice represented at the World Fair in Paris, first in 1867 and again in 1878. In 1852 she exhibited some of her paintings in London, and Queen Victoria ...

This will be his second solo show at the gallery. The reception is Thursday, April 1, 6-8pm and the artist will be present. Khalid Kodis recent work continues his exploration of strategies that fuse personal history and experience with his desire to portray social, spiritual and utopian transformations. He creates works that are infused with strong references to magical realism and deep concern for the aesthetic struggle between form and concept. He uses contemporary themes drawn from the rich story-telling traditions of his homeland to construct intricately layered and textured pictures that demonstrate a mastery of design, color, composition and draftsmanship. The often repetitive, sensitive and exploratory brushstrokes in his work are highly characteristic and clearly recognizable. His landscapes are not representations of nature in the traditional sense of the term, rather they are abstract expressions of new artistic and spiritual possibilities, using planes of color and small brushstrokes that build up to form complex fields that are at once both a direct expression of the sensations of the observing eye and an abstraction from observed nature. Khalid Kodi, is a prolific ...

www.anivadart.com Give a modern twist to fantasy, romance and symbolism and you have the work of Davina Nicholas. Her style being classified as abstract expressionism, imagist and romanticism, is contemporary and continues to evolve. The technique includes mixed media, inspired by strong colour and contrast, of the present environment. Lately abstracts have been her favourite style, as the feel and imagination can travel to different dimensions of the universe and she is always looking at things through the eyes of an artist. Having widely travelled in Europe, Middle East, Caribbean, USA and UK she has been spending much time studying contemporary and historical artworks. Changing times and relocation, different cultures, colours and landscapes, have brought with it different experiences. Currently residing in UK, her work appeared in number of local exhibitions in Croydon, Arundel and Bromley Kent, where she was also commissioned to paint a mural at the local Churchill Theatre. Exploring and expressing the creative passion, with a strong belief of retaining connection with her work, have encouraged her, to develop a stronger understanding and affiliation with herself. Her motto is, to be able to inspire and touch other peoples lives and hearts. The language of art, in all its forms, has always played an influence, inspiring and evoking feelings, because - People dont care, what you have, or where you live, but they remember how you made them feel Davina Nicholas has a ...

Biography Born in Mansoura, Egypt, in 1953, Mohamed Abla graduated in 1977 from the Faculty of Fine Arts in Alexandria. Abla studied in Zurich's Bauhaus Oriental School and traveled extensively in Germany. In the early 80s, he studied graphics in both Switzerland and Austria. Abla held his first solo exhibition in 1977 in Egypt, and then in 1979 his first solo international exhibition in Germany. His continuous traveling has given him a broad exposure to the international art scene and a chance to study and exhibit in European galleries. Hes also the recipient of many prestigious awards and Biennale Prizes. Ablas Workshop He calls it the Abla interactive method, a way to teach anyone, of any age, how to paint. A long sheet of transparent plastic is hung dividing the room into two halves. The participants are paired off, one person on each side of the plastic sheet, facing each other. One person becomes the model, his or her partner the painter. Tracing the outline of the model, the painter finds he or she is able to paint. Abla Museum & Fayoum International Art Center Mohamed Abla founded this Art Center in 2006; the idea was inspired by the International Summer Academy in Salzburg, where Abla teaches. The Art Center is a place for artists to meet and get involved in workshops, with an exhibition hall to support and exhibit art work and an Art library. Mohamed Abla has also founded the first Museum of caricature in Egypt. For more information please call us: Tel.: +973 1771 7707 Fax: +973 1771 4545 Email: art@albareh.com
University of New Mexico College of Fine Arts: Dance Fall 2009 Student choreographer's showcase: Leverage Choreography: Dara Minkin Dancers: Leah Harrison, Rachel Bliven, Hunter Riley, Kyah Windle, Katie Hancock, Zinnia Seibel, Paola Jaime, and Dara Minkin Yang Yin Balance, light & dark Battling forces entangling within each person One must accept the other Unavoidable magnetism There is a glue, Red runs between the two Bakkheia: Frenzy like state, volumizing sins, induced by Dionysus, God of Wine She a Maynad, Maiden of Dionysus Cutting through the illusion of separateness Gluttony, Confusion, Narcissism Curiosity & Perversion Anger - Resentment Lost & Lonely She accepts their darkness In failure to show their light The wheel must keep turning There is a balance: Nothing need by changed, only to be acknowledged (These words were meant to be used for a slideshow during the piece to explain what it's about.) The next poem was in the show pamphlet To feel and express the astonishing beauty of things, falling rocks flowing water, hard, soft, pain, delight, are constants. The chiseled human form, weathered with its thoughts, frenzies, and passions. Balancing light and dark, without holding on the inhuman nature of reality- To feel Greatly, and understand greatly, and express greatly, the natural beauty of things, is the business of dance. Man is nature daydreaming, movement is diversion: noble sentiments, intricate ideas. love, lust, longing, bitter truth, the world is not changed, only less dizzy. Robinson Jeffers edited by anonymous
