Get Info about Fast ForWord products: www.scilearn.com Since the 2006-2007 school year, the St. Mary Parish Public School System has been implementing the Fast ForWord products. The district started with seven elementary schools that were in academic assistance, which is a designation for schools that don't make sufficient progress. After seeing the results on student achievement, the St. Mary Parish Public School System expanded its use and now has a district-wide implementation. In 2008, for the first time in a decade, the district exceeded the state average for the percentage of fourth graders reading at or above the Basic level. During the 2008-2009 and 2009-2010 school years, Fast ForWord was extended to the rest of the district, and the schools began using Reading Assistant. In four years, the percent of fourth graders in the district performing at or above Basic on the initial LEAP ELA test increased impressively from 53% to 78%, starting out far below the state average and then exceeding it. Paychex, Inc. (NASDAQ:PAYX) reported its fiscal 2010 results following the closing bell Wednesday, showing total revenue of $2 billion for the fiscal year that ended May 31, 2010. The company's total revenue declined 4% from the previous fiscal year's $2.1 billion. Service revenue increased 3% from the 2009 fiscal year to $1.9 billion. Net income and EPS fell 11% to $477 million and $1.32 per share, respectively. Operational cash flow for the company was $610.9 million, and dividends paid to stockholders were $448.6 million. "Fiscal 2010 was a challenging year," said president and CEO Jonathan J. Judge. "Difficult economic conditions adversely impacted our revenue growth, as they contributed to a 3.2% decline in our client base, a 4.9% decline in new client sales, and a 2.6% decline in checks per client for fiscal 2010. On a positive note, we experienced slightly better client retention, and for the first time since the third quarter of fiscal 2007, we experienced an increase in checks per client for a quarter. During the fourth quarter of fiscal 2010, checks per client increased 1.1%. We are encouraged by, yet remain cautious about the modest improvement we have seen in many of our key indicators as we exit fiscal 2010." Shares of Paychex closed trading down 1.12% Wednesday afternoon at $27.42.

RAPAPORT... Weekly retail sales and Saks' first quarter results reflected slow but steady improvement at retail counters in the US While year to year comparisons remain very easy given such large drops in consumer spending during the first half of 2009, retailers continue to express great optimism given single digit increases. Platinum Guild International held its spring season editor day in Manhattan and in a change from the past, the group focused on showcasing designs that were under the $5000 price point. Southwest Airlines (NYSE:LUV) reported Q1 EPS of $0.03, inline with consensus estimates. Revenues in the quarter rose 11.6% year-over-year to $2.63 billion, inline with consensus estimates. Gary C. Kelly, CEO, stated: "We are extremely pleased to report a profitable start to the year, especially in this challenging economic environment exacerbated by persistently high energy costs. As the quarter progressed, we began to see modest improvement in demand for business travel, as measured by the increase in full-fare traffic. Overall demand for our Low Fares and high quality Customer Service remained strong, resulting in a record first quarter performance for load factor, passenger yield, and passenger revenues. Furthermore, first quarter 2010 operating unit revenues, and the corresponding 19.3 percent year-over-year increase, represent all-time quarterly records. To achieve this revenue performance in, seasonally, the weakest quarter, is notable. To do so in a recovering economic environment is truly remarkable. Thus far, strong load factor and yield trends have continued in April and, assuming trends continue, we expect another significant year-over-year unit revenue gain in second quarter 2010."

An ICIMOD-Nepal Day workshop was organised on 5 March, the first day of a two-day event, to share the results of ICIMODs work in Nepal with partners and the development community. Participants were mainly from government ministries and departments, universities, and development and non-government organisations. ICIMODs Nepalese partners highlighted the activities and achievements of six ongoing joint programmes. The first presentation focused on the increased income achieved by communities in remote hill districts of Nepal from high value niche products such as medicinal plants and beekeeping using a value chain approach. The second described a key pilot study undertaken in Nepal by ICIMOD, FECOFUN and ANSAB on reducing carbon emissions from deforestation and forest degradation (REDD). Glacial melting and glacial lakes, and work with the concerned government department and Tribhuvan University, was the subject of the third talk: the inventory of potentially dangerous lakes in Nepal has been refined, with six lakes identified as high priority for investigation, enablin, a more reliable communication of risk to the vulnerable communities. The Department of National Parks and Wildlife Conservation discussed ICIMOD supported work on participatory and cross-boundary landscape conservation, including regional protected area conservation corridors as in the Sacred Himalayan Landscape (SHL), and the setting up of the regional High Altitude Wetlands Initiative. The Ryerson Rams figure skating team co-hosted the Winter Invitational with the U of T, featuring 11 teams, including two from out of the province, from January 21-22. The two-day event was a huge success in general and for the Rams figure skating team. Rams head coach Robyn Doolittle was very proud of her team's performance over the two days, describing the Invitational as a competition of firsts. "It was the first time we broke the 40-point barrier in overall points; it was the first time we finished in the top five overall; it was the first time we won a gold medal in the last five years, and it's the first time that we won five medals. It was a very successful competition for us." The duo of Tara Bartolini and Alex Dabkowski won Ryerson's gold medal in the Creative Dance event. Bartolini and Dabkowski have been skating for three years and had been consistent medal winners in previous competitions, including the Queen's Fall Invitational earlier this season, but had never gotten gold. "They've always been trading spots on the podium but they've never been able to crack that gold medal," said Doolittle. "This time they finally did." Joining Bartolini and Dabkowski as medal winners for Ryerson were Jennifer Ji and Katie Docherty with a silver, Justin Peacock with a bronze, and Madeleine Jullian who took home two silvers. Ji and Docherty won their silver in the Junior Silver Similar Dance event, their second silver in that event this year. Doolittle said that Ji and ...
