Full name Fichtel & Sachs were a German engine builder that specialized in producing engines for other manufacturers to use in their motorcycles. Vast numbers of Sachs engines were used in small to medium sized motorcycles, autocycles, cyclemotors and mopeds. The Sachs moped engine incorporated the pedalling gear to transmit drive through the chain drive so that unlike most mopeds of the era, Sachs powered mopeds needed only one chain drive to the rear wheel.
