www.euronews.com This rather unusual looking car can reach speeds of up to 180 kilometres an hour but that is not what makes it special. All is revealed when it unfurls it propellors; this car can also fly. The Personal Air and Land Vehicle or PAL-V is a gyrocopter that can both fly and is allowed on the road. So what do you need to drive this machine? Robert Dingemanse, CEO and founder of Dutch company PAL-V, said: "A normal drivers licence. And for flying a personal or private pilot's licence and that's something you get in around 20 to 30 hours worth of lessons. So it's pretty easy in a gyrocopter. It's a gyrocopter and that's the easiest way of flying, also the safest way of flying." If the PAL-V sounds like the answer to the traffic jam, there is a hitch. It requires 165 metres of runway to take-off, 30 metres to land and can only be flown from an airport. It is expected to retail for somewhere between 250000 and 300000 euros. But the PAL-V is not the only flying car - or driving plane if you prefer - coming on to the market. The US-based firm Terrafugia have just carried out successful tests on their own street-legal plane called the Transition. Terrafugia say around 100 orders have already been placed for the car, which will cost roughly the same as its European cousin. Insider.Autos4sale.com -- Auto News The Transition, a Roadable Aircraft made by Terrafugia, Inc., has the distinction of being the first ever FUV - Flying Utility Vehicle. It drives on the roadway like a Car, flies in the air like a Plane, and parks in your garage like any other road vehicle, eliminating any doubt that it is a legitimate Flying Car. With 4-tires that provide Rear Wheel Drive during highway transportation, and wings that unfold and lock into position for air flight, this automobile was designed to provide its operator with unrestricted freedom, flexibility, and fun.
The Pal-V (Personal Air and Land Vehicle) is the worlds first practical flying car design. Personal Air and Land Car. From rescue and emergency agencies and surveillance companies to small military options, recreational flight and daily commutes. The Pal-V offers a whole new range of possibilities for our future. In this video the Pal-V is being tested at the military Gilze-Rijen Airbase in Brabant the Netherlands with full support from the Dutch government and Dutch military. Skipping traffic jams altogether would be a dream for many. And Pal-V wants to offer this in an affordable package coming from a factory in 2014.

A practical flying car with everyman usability has so far eluded the public, but we may have already been introduced to a design that could lead to a breakthrough. Some of the major challenges of producing a point-to-point simple and safe to operate vehicle are technological in nature. Autonomous navigation (enter the destination, press a button, and allow the vehicle to navigate, communicate with, and autonomously avoid other aircraft) may be one key to safely organizing masses of flying vehicles in the same airspace. And as society progresses, the gap between the dream and reality may be shrinking.

October 13, 2010 - Steve Saint of I-TEC drove his road-legal flying car from Florida to Oshkosh this summer. Since then the FAA has also issued the Maverick a S-LSA aircraft airworthiness certificate. I-TEC hopes to be in production by EAA Oshkosh 2011.
Steve Saint has invented a flying car. You may recall the story of Steve's father Nate Saint, who was a missionary pilot. In 1956, he and four other missionaries were killed by Waodani Indians during an effort to make peaceful contact with them. We have all been inspired by their sacrifice and the courage shown by their family members who actually returned to the Waodani Indians with the good news of Jesus Messiah. Steve is now himself a missionary pilot, and has been a huge help to CBR in setting up our airborne RCC campaign, which features huge abortion photos on airplane tow banners. Now he's invented a flying car!

The FAA has just given the green light to Terrafugia's Transition, a flying car the company calls a "roadable aircraft." Transition will have a cruising speed of 115 mph, will include a 20 gallon gas tank, with a range of 460 miles. While on ground it can drive on the highway at normal speeds and will get 30 miles per gallon. The first roadable aircraft will include airbags and a sales price of $194000. So far 70 people have pre-ordered Terrafugia's Transition.
